very interesting. Recently saw Rosenkavalier with Cheryl Barker at Syd Op Hse. Long but excellent. Lovely trio at the end. Think they could update it with modern young Goth Octavian or such instead of wigs and waistcoats and stockinged legs - hard to relate to that especially as it's a female playing the role. Goodnight Drelnis. Thanks for the chat!
@annyfenton1 We have horrible Russian companies flying in every year to do popular Puccini/Verdi things, like Boheme, Traviata, Tosca, Aida, but they do it so horribly that it's an appalling waste of money to go see them. But I do anyway just to get to see an opera.
We also have a local company with a great residing soprano, but there are only 3-4 productions per year, although the quality of the music is really good.
@annyfenton1 That sounds great, do I imply by your grammar that you're actually involved in the service?! That would be amazing!
Margreta Elkins is also an Australian opera singer, and she passed away last year, sadly without as much recognition as Sutherland because her career was restrictied to Australia, she refused offers to sing in the big houses abroad.

Margreta Elkins sounds vaguely familiar. May have seen her but can't recall.
I'm not involved in the service (I wish) but am a Sydneysider. And you?

thanks; that was quick! There's a state memorial service for Dame Joan in Sydney soon - I hope to make it to honour her great contribution.

@annyfenton1 Nope it's Margreta Elgins, and in this case Adalgisa is played by a mezzo :)
