  • i believe your supposed to push the puddle not pull it

  • I'm just starting out, and i found this video very helpful.

  • thanks for all the tips. :)

  • I can see you turned off your fuel first and then the oxygen. At my school I turned off the oxygen first and then the fuel. Am I doing it the right way? Or does it even matter?

  • @carfenaticman123 it will tell you how to shut it down in the instruction manual. different torches say different things. it really dosnt matter and you will not explode either way. If you are using a victor read the manual and then show it to your instructor and tell your teacher to stop telling people lies.

  • @freddytk421 Thanks but I didn't say my teacher said anything, So I dont get why you think hes a liar?

  • @carfenaticman123 oh sorry it's just someone tells me every day that their teacher says to turn it off the other way. I just tell them to read the manual.

  • @freddytk421 lol I understand man but thanks for making this video very helpful, I was welding my two coupons today at school and my torch was hissing at me like a fucker lol but I figured it out that it was dirty. I kept adjusting to a neutral flame and to a oxidizing flame and couldn't figure it out why it was hissing for a few seconds lol

  • Nice Intro Vid. Thanks...

  • I dig your video. I just finished my winter session at school and it was on gas welding. I've been MIG welding for 6years now and never was taught to gas weld; its a slow process like u said but its a cool way to know how to weld like the ole days. Keep up the good work.

  • @315vock thanks. i will start again soon and then keep it up after that.

  • Love old school welding...... Great video!

  • Question do u need any kind of motion like a wip or weave

  • @Kejinification Stop commenting on my videos, are you a stalker?

  • nice video very easy to understand and good camera work

  • thank you so much for making a "make sense" video.. I appreciate it very much.

  • Very awesome. Beautiful artwork!

  • oh there are dislikes? hahaha

thanks for the vid man... im just starting to learn how to weld. i want to destroy my car the artist way:))

  • @lelard yeah I sometimes make people mad with comments and also this video was when youtube had a star rating system so I guess it converted it to that. I never looked at that but it's still a good ratio. I can't believe so many people watch these videos.

  • very professional

  • great video man, very helpful will be looking at what else you have.

  • i can cut metal with matches and straw

  • isnt it easier to turn the acetylene half a turn then light it?

  • the 5 dislikes are the people that dont know how to weld

  • man is this guys cool! very professional!!!

  • "looks cool in the front yard" looks Awesome! not cool lol

  • great vid bro!!

  • awsome work man, it´s an inspiration for me

  • which store sells oxygen? and how much would a refill be for a relatively small one?

    thank u to anybody!

  • you are a star been looking for detailed stuff like this for ages you are my professor

  • Pretty cool

  • Awesome man! really liked that. You got skills. wish I had a torch. I love art and fire so i think this would be awesome

  • amazing video very well explainned tks man.

  • 69chevymaro. keep the very end of the blue cones just off the surface of the metal, angle the tip slightly towards the direction of cut, bump up your Oxygen pressure and don't move to slowly. If you are moving to slowly the surrounding metal heats up and melts and runs back together.

  • Try holding the torch at different angles. It may help that problem

  • hey , i tried oxy acetylene cutting today for the first time. As a was cutting , the metal would weld its self together at some places of the cut, do you know why that happens and what i should do to avoid that , anybody?

  • @69chevymaro hold your tip either closer or farther away from you metal. if that doesnt work make sure you adjust your flows of both gasses.

  • i saw a stainless steel exhaust welded with this method, it was more porus than a catholic priests alibi

  • freddy i need to know the basics how to start using my torch set never did before

  • neat sculpture and thanks for some of the great info.

  • Hi Freddy. I'm impressed with the way you welded the thin sheet metal. I've only limited experience with thicker metal. Would you say welding sheet metal is easier with the torch, or with a MIG? I use MIG pretty much exclusively and I can say that when I first started out, it was of course hard to keep from blowing through. Any thoughts?

  • AWEsome video - one of the best I've seen. Most just show them welding with little technical detail and poor or no close-ups.

  • Great video. Good, clear information. Thank you.

  • you did that statue man? wow... very good!

  • i like using torches theyre very handy because you dont need electricity or anything and your not limited to just welding any job you can think of that involves heat is doable with a torch but i do still like mig welding because its super easy and i have the luxury of a shop but if i could only get a torch or an arc welder id choose a torch

  • i realize im not a pro gas welder but i think ur suppose to push gas welds not pull them

  • at 1:50 that is called a oxidizing flame

  • 5:30 thats awesome

  • Hi Fred, another great video, i am torn between a couple of welders from harbor freight... only welding i did was in high school arc & torch many years ago... I like the small portable torch kit from HF for $279 i think the tanks are 10 cubic feet it comes with, but not sure how many hours of basic welding i would get out of those small tanks...also how long can you keep tanks for? if its a few years and i could get over 10 hours of welding time from those tanks that might be what i need..thanks

  • @3255959 Get the big oxyfuel set and then buy some small tanks not baby ones like the HF but not the big ones like I have the ones in between. look at my video about buying used welding tanks if you have not done that yet. thanks for the comment.

  • Best lighting a cutting torch video that I've seen yet (skipped past the other parts - I'm sure that they were good).

  • A before O or Up you go

  • @wirelesscps That's not true with victor torches you shut the oxygen off first, it says it in the manual.

  • @freddytk421 i guees my auto teacher wants to kill us lol

  • @wirelesscps Just ask him if you can read the manual before you call him on it. LOL. make sure , it does in mine.

  • @freddytk421

it used to be shutt of the acetelean first.. now-a-days they tell youot shut of the oky first, because it can react so bad.. just blowing it onto your hads can spontaneously combust it jsut form the oils on your skin..

in automotive they tell you to shut the Oxy off first, as most mechs hands are covered in grease and oil.. or gloves, or whatever. lol

    theres been incidents..

  • @Lynium Read the instructions that come with the torch. They recommend shutting down different depending on the brand. Victor gives several reasons for shutting the oxygen off first.

Don't use a torch if you are covered with grease. Why would the torch set fire to your greasy clothes when you are shutting down and not while you are cutting and making sparks? Really please read the instructions on the torches and don't listen to teachers that have been doing the wrong thing the whole time.

  • @freddytk421

considering he was a journyman welder for like 40 years before he started teaching, and you dont get to be a teacher at most collages if you dont know what you're doing, im kinda inclined to listen to him..

but it varies from person to person and there technically is no right or wrong way, just perfered ways..

the main point was O2 and oily film can equal spontaneous combustion, so shut the oxy off first so theres no accidental reaction.

  • @Lynium im saying to read the manual that comes with the torch. You can teach at the community colleges and trade schools with a two year degree or experience in Texas.

  • @wirelesscps Your teacher just likes to hear it go "pop". There's no sense to it though. doing it the way Freddy does it has always worked safely.

  • @freddytk421 u should turn off ur accetalyne first because oxygen is a stabalisa not a fuel accetlyne is ur fuel so u turn ur fuel and the oxygen will blow the flame out

  • Its not calming at all. I'm scared shitless doing this. That shit will burn you and you're working with tanks of explosive gases that can blow you to hell and back. Not to mention I'm holding two things at once, not sure what I'm aiming at, getting blinded by the fire and terrified that liquid metal will roll of and splash onto me.

  • @cobrachoppergirl You don't have to do it. you can try knitting. lol J/K you get used to it.

  • @freddytk421 hmm... knitting is fun. or wood work

  • Ohhh my gawd I love that metal archer dude

  • I don't think I could make a face out of clay that looks as good as your metal man does

  • Do you know of any websites that have pictures of sculptures and metal work etc. also you should create blog or something and post pictures of the pieces you have done. I'm looking for inspiration to create works of my own, thanks

  • Hello Freddy

Great videos , am getting thru most of them.

    Some great tips & hints

    Thanks for sharing....

  • our welding teacher is a underwater welder XD im taking vacation welding next school year

  • @brandonf90 what's vacation welding? Is that like welding in the Bahamas or Vegas?

  • @freddytk421 i meen vocational haha its the highest welding class haha all year 2and1/2 hours everyday

  • @freddytk421 lol that will the best of both worlds

  • thanks a lot for your really useful video !!!!

  • Great video. I'm looking forward to seeing your others. Do you think gas welding is cleaner than arc? Less fumes and dirt on yourself at the end of the day? What about using gas on galvanized, fumes? How long do the tanks last? Cost compared to firing up an arc welder? Arc welders are hard on the electric bill.

  • @whitscot I talk about it in the stick welding video part two of this playlst. arc welding is cheaper in the long run but it can only weld.

  • THANK YÖU BIG TIME.

I'm about to start welding, for cars custom projects (garage spare time projects) , and...I was wondering if starting with mig tig or oxiacet.

I think oxiac. are much versatyls isn´t it?

    thank you again man

  • THANK YOU! Because of you i passed my auto culminating with flying colors. Keep up the good work.

  • @Aprehended well thats good I'm sure you had something to do with it considering I don't even know what that is. lol

  • @freddytk421 it was a test worth 18% of my final grade, i had to cut a piece of metal with the torch.

  • Great close-ups of the molten metal. Luvin it.

  • Great tutorial. very well done .thanx

  • how do you weld without using flux???

  • @boulevardbadboys You don't need flux for welding steel.

  • thx 4 the info

  • Great video, I've never done any art welding. i like the guy at 5:30

  • @quizlixx Thanks, he took forever to make.

  • hell i just had to sub!!!

  • @son8god8damn You're welcome, thanks for the sub.

  • Great video. Very well put together. Thank you :)

  • @belowthesmile Thank you for watching and the nice comment.

  • Awesome video. Your the man

  • @mcloven83 thanks. you da man.

  • Great video--very helpful! Thanks ;)

  • @AlienProphecy your welcome.

  • I just learned how to adjust and cut with a torch this week (cutting up Shaq's old-house's swimming pool rebar), and knew I wanted to get back to your vids to double-check what I was taught in the field. Thanks Freddy.

  • @Spearfisher1970 You're welcome. I am going to make a video only about cutting and piercing next week. hopefully it will be better.

  • yup . .1/4 inch rods . .do they have a particular name at the welding supply? I love this video.

  • don't but those from the welding supply. buy them from a metal yard. they are way cheaper there and you will need lots of them. only but welding rods from the welding supply place. those 1/4" rods are just considered stock metal.

  • yeah . .I meant that. I am in a small town . our welding supply place is also a metal yard. Looking forward to it.

  • First video (at least for me) that really shows how to handle the puddle. Thanks!

  • I'll send you a better puddle handling video.

  • thanks dude i learned some things

  • Thank you for watching and subscribing.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for these really helpful videos, after watching your vids I decided buy an outfit and tanks. Just made a wire frame tree using similar methods to the ones you use. Thanks

  • Thats great. Please post the tree I would love to see it.

  • Man, these vids are the perfect primer for a newb like myself... I think youve convinced me to start OxyAcetylene...

  • you should, because you can cut and solder and braze and heat as well as weld. It's not that good for welding thick because it takes lots of gas.

  • My favorite days to oxyfuel weld are when nobody is on the grinders or hammering stuff. its calming for me to just weld

  • I heard that.

  • nice thx

  • you're welcome.

  • Awesome video thanks for your time and patience... you the man!

  • Thanks I'm working on a new batch of newbie how to videos at this very moment. subscribe to me because they are going to be like this one and the stick welding one. thanks again.

  • That is probably the best disclaimer I've ever heard! especially the part about "dont use this as your only source" that was great!

oh, and i thought your video was cool too!! :) I'll be back for more.

  • nice man u can tell ur a rookie tho, haha not bashing you just letting you know, ok first off the flame ur talkin about is call the netrual flame, and for heating metal you want a rosebud, but for what ur doin the welding ips will work fine, want to know anything about welding just send me a message. nice vid keep up the work

  • Very well done. Thanks for the info.

  • Excellent video, nice camera work...

  • you know the torch handle better than many other people !

  • nice video tanx

  • for a steady straight cut you can also slide the torch on your thumb and forefinger like a pool cue AND/OR you can use a "straight edge" piece of thick gauge as a cutting guide on top of your work piece. (it won't melt)

Just slide the tip of the torch along one edge like a pool cue....you can get cuts that look like they were milled.

  • Are you from southern IL?

  • I'm from the great state of Texas.

  • Very nice. Keep the vids coming.

  • Great vid man, this has helped me alot building a custom motorcycle.

    Really Appreciate It

    Cheers

  • nice video man!! very helpful for my body repair work. i like the actual weld video w filter. i get to see your rod / torch action. make more of it tho.

  • I'm an HVAC mechanic, so I do a lot of brazing & silver soldering. I've had to teach myself cutting by trial and error and the occasional jobsite tip. Your video covered a lot. I appreciate the thought that went into this along with the good camera work. You also have an excellent speaking voice that's good for teaching. Great job!

  • Hey thanks, I think my voice sounds strange.

  • Bravo...it takes much time and skill to produces a piece of art like that. good job keep it up.

  • Thanks

  • very helpful vid i wish i could get my cuts that neet i have just started out though and have to use a grinder every time haha

  • The most common reason for a messy cut is using too much gas. If its not windy look at the smoke when you light the Acetylene stop adding gas when the black smoke, soot just stops any more than that will make it messy. If you are used to cutting with a lot of pressure it may feel wrong but after you make a cut you will see it works better. so add just enough acetylene to keep it from letting out that black soot and no more. also make sure its the right sized tip for what you are doing.

  • Good video and sharing the info nice:)

  • thanks keep checking in I'm working on more videos.

  • nice video and definitley nice metal man just so you know you dont need the air and oxyacetalene all the way your not supposed to incase something happens and you need to quickly shut off the flame

  • I know the acetyle needs to barely be open but the books that came with the regulators said to open the oxygen all the way because it seals some gaskets in the regulators.

  • Great video! I love the detail you went into...
