If you slap on wheels, for example, it won't master the stairs - stairs are built for people, so you need to make a robot with legs if you want it to use stairs. With legs, you need balance, etc. which is exactly what the focus of humanoid robots is.

Opening doors, picking up tools, managing on awkward surfaces, being able to reach shelves or fit through certain spaces... everything was designed for people.
