Such an inspiration to hear this in the original - thank you so much for posting it. It is amazing to think that more than seventy years after it was first recorded it is still being sung and played all over the world. Hearing and seeing this inspired me to post a video response of myself, and a young singer (Natalie Davis) playing this live. We hope that you enjoy or humble tribute. Best wishes, Dave Merrick, (Small Days)
Can't say I have the relationship with Billie Holliday that some have. But this song will always remind me of the show "Roc". Such a underrated and unappreciated show back in the day
Them that's got shall get Them that's not shall lose So the Bible said and it still is news Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own That's got his own Yes, the strong gets more While the weak ones fade Empty pockets don't ever make the grade Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own That's got his own
@shuri Money, you've got lots of friends Crowding round the door When you're gone, spending ends They don't come no more Rich relations give Crust of bread and such You can help yourself But don't take too much Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own That's got his own Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own That's got his own He just worry 'bout nothin' Cause he's got his own
Too much propaganda inserted into the video. Nobody wants to see that blinking, red web address across the bottom or the other commercial crap. That's why I gave it a thumbs down. Lady Day was great, the song was great.
I sing this song to my niece (she's five months old) and its' the only song she will calm to whenever I have her. I've sung this to her since the day she was born <3 she means so much to me
One of the many things I love about Bioshock was enlightening younger generations on the beautiful music from the past. There was not one song from that soundtrack that I did not enjoy. I love oldies now lol
the next time you consider putting that stupid flashing red text on your video also consider wether or not you would subscribe to somebody who puts such annoying things in their videos.
and if the Tea Party movement in 2010 is any indication, Republicans won’t be looking to nominate a household name for president in 2012.
“They’re ready for a non-establishment candidate,” Cain, casually dressed in a blue shirt and slacks, said here in Florida during an interview Thursday after addressing an enthusiastic crowd at a “Spending Revolt” rally. “I will run proudly as a non-establishment candidate. I think the public has an appetite for a non-establishment candidate.”:)
2:41 AM 09/24/2010 ....Herman Cain, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO, is contemplating 2012 run
TAMPA, Fla.—Herman Cain is thinking about running for president, even though it’s likely you’ve never heard of him.
And that’s OK — at least right now — for the ..Black.. Republican who has become a sought after speaker on the Tea Party circuit The former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza says he’s going to build a grassroots coalition of supporters from the bottom up if he decides to run....cont
To me, her voice sounds like an alto sax. Does anybody agree with me? Chaka Khan sounds like an instrument sometimes to me too. I think that's so cool.
Last night I dreamt that I was being attacked by something. I don't know what it was, but I managed to get away and I began to hear this song echo in the distance when I was hiding. I started crying in my dream because hearing her sing made me feel a little safe. I don't know, it was just a weird dream lol, but I love Billie Holiday. Her music is fantastic. <3
O Billie. How I love you. Stop haunting me now. I wish I could have met you. My aunts did . My Dad played clarinet for you. Emerson,s bar in south philadelphia.

I know it sounds strange but any digital variant of these songs always sound bad.
They're so harsh and col sounding.
The old analog vinyl copies will always sound best, the recording quality is so soft and heartwarming, just like the songs themselves.
