The rotor rubs up against the inside of the casing and roughs it up. This makes the surface of the rotor more prone to air resistance as well as throwing the rotor out of perfect balance.

Sure, in the long run it might. (Most likely will, but I'm sure it won't break THAT easily, after all, it's used by everyone and surely not everyone will even know how to rotate and stop the ball properly.
AND it's not that costly that it couldn't be toyed with :)
