@weightfeather1 Heredity is part of the picture--it claim the lives of all of Jimmy Carter's siblings. There is also a possible or probable link to the chemical C2H5OH, if you are talking about chemicals. (That, by the way, is the chemical symbol for Alcohol, and yes, Patrick Swayze had issues with alcohol).
Oh, that Griffin appearance! I have it on audio tape. There was just the slightest wobble in the voice at one point. Otherwise she sound vigorous, youthful and drenchingly lovely. Her "Estrellita" could make the devil cry, I'm sure.
@dermotafan that's ok. what are musical fans for but to comfort each other as we listen to music such as this? I lost my mother to cancer too--shitty way to go--sorry for my 'french'--in the mean time lets feel better and listen to this great artist. hope you are feeling better!
WOW, WOW, WOW! That is just beautiful. I'm an aspiring singer and I love Lily Pons. She made it look so easy, her singing was always free, relaxed yet perfect!
You do gain something from a long career of public performance. stage actors enjoy this more than opera or concert singers, but by this stage one has to be very relaxed in public performance.
So charming and at age 74! I heard Pons sing "Estrellita" in her last public appearance on The Merv Griffin Show two years later and it was beautiful.
74!!! are you serious?! This is why I think it is totally worth it to really work on technique before trying to push yourself out into the singing world.
The most incredible ever! Charming :)

Pancreatic cancer. My mother died of it 4 months ago. It only took her 3 months to die. Nobody expected it. Sorry I just had to share this.

vocally she is a female pavarotti, awesome technique and spinning high notes into her old age. wonderful.

Pancreatic cancer just sucks. Her, Pavarotti, and hopefully not Marilyn Horne. This crap has got to stop.

Don't forget Patrick Wayne Swayze. (I know, he was a dancer-actor, but same difference).

fabulous! I love this piece. Shows what you can do if you sing correctly. Beautifully done.

Young Pons was frequently off tune. When she grew older she got better. A legend!

interesting...I heard she had terrible problems with nerves before performances and often was sick to her stomach shortly before going onstage!

I agree, she sang "Estrellita" in this concert also. Charming is a great word to sum it up. I also have interviews with her done before this concert.

I saw the same Merv Griffin Show appearance. Miss Pons's voice was beautiful up to the end because she did not ABUSE it.
