AS far as speeds are concerned D.C. has BART beat. Above ground the trains do 90. They no longer allow passengers to see the readouts (I saw it in the mid 80's). Here in NY the trains are limited to 50 because the tracks will not allow faster speeds and most stations are too close together to allow the acceleration and safe braking, but they are working on that with unit welding all of the tracks and replacing the signal system for faster service.
@TaffyAlpha nope, as long as you don't exit the station (i.e. go past the gates), you don't have to pay again. Your ticket (which kinda acts like a prepaid card), isn't charged until you leave the station. BART has posters by the machines that indicate how much it costs to go from one place to another. In most cases, this is around $10.
In short, you don't have to pay extra to transfer between lines.
there was a time when this rapid transit system was STATE OF THE ART! sadly they didn't put enough effort into replacing their old aging rolling stock fleet.
I HAD FUN ON BART TODAY RODE OUT TO THE AIRPORT MY FAVORITE PAST TIME KINDA OUT GREW IT THO STILL LOVE IT HOPE I CAN RIDE IN NEXT LIFE TIME I WILL HAD DREAMS OF IT SPIRIT REALMS I MISSED IT AFTER LEAVING THE BAY AREA 7512/EXTREME PROMOTIONS 5-30-2010
This section of BART runs along the old Sacramento Northern railroad right-of-way (built 1914-15) ...until a few years ago you could see the grading and concrete abutments where the railroad ran near the Concord station, and even a short section of track at the station itself complete with rails and wooden ties.
Awesome! I hope that the operator didn't lose their job for shooting this video. BART operator cabins are separated by some pretty dark window tint, so this is clearly an inside job. Thank you so much.
Back in the day (early 1980s) there was a clear window between the passenger compartment and the driver's cab, so you could get a view like this just by standing in the front of the train. Pretty fun back when I was little - this brings back memories.
Pause at 1:55, you will notice that there is a dial on the control panel that says train length. although it's a bit blurry, it looks like it's set to 10.
I likr the Concord Yard Better. Then The Hayward Yard. Well Did you Heard about the Hayward Yard? The Hayward was Mess up. And All of the Trains To Fremont are Slow Due to that Danmge Over there.
@thepostfk But the crap that is on history channel today is about all sorts of crap like did Jesus marry Mary Magdalene, how did that universe form? and all sorts of other crap. I just wish it could just be documentaries like the history of Disney, railroading, or any of that sort. That's right, get a life history channel! :p
Nice run between Concord and Pleasant Hill. When I was a kid in the mid 70's I used to ride Bart a a lot and stand up by the glass door and watch the operators cab.... I always thought that that would be a cool job to operate a Bart train. Very cool video brings back a lot of memories. Love your other video also... the tunnel between Oridna and Rockridge.
You said it goes up to 80 miles/hour? That's intense. Subways here only hit 50 kilometers a hour...ehh thats around 30 miles/hour and we still get derailments.
@CoCoEMT wow, i;d kinda hate that because you can get bored, and you can't even go on your phone or anything cuz you have to pay attention lol. had you ever been tierd and being afraid to fall asleep?
I do agree with you! But in the USA we haven't had anything high up scale like the ones you have mentioned.I hope the goverment will bring all that modernity to us before it becomes past again!
Leaving south end of urban Concord (brand new Police Station was unseen), over Systron Drive & and leaving Momental Blvd. (on your right), and then Concord Yard, and then great curve, passing through now northern-most suburb of Walnut Creek, & then over Oak Grove Road, over La Juntas Way, and then bit later after long stretch of vegetation before reveling Goggins Drive with Iron Horse Trail (railbed of former Sacramento Northern RR) & now arriving BART Pleasant Hill Station and Garages.
From Aug to DEC 1997 I travelling along this portion for San Francisco and Oakland metropolis when lived in Concord. Mt. Diablo is not shown but regional park with high hills on your left as you enter Concord Yard. Did you hear series of thumpings when enter great curve? I always get up to prepare arriving my home, Concord Station. I call this "Mt. Diablo Route" while it is officially known as BART Yellow Line. This is note that never included in my unpublished novel "Gratify Lasting Paradise."
all you have to do is ride the front car to see the cab. one time this awesome driver let me in the cab!! :D he was in the seat and i was next to the window on the other side of the cab!
I went on the BART Yellow Line to San Francisco Civic Center/UN Plaza station from the Walnut Creek station for the first time on April 18, 2007 (the 101st anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake).
How do you get hired on as a train operator?

Here's the question:
If I want to transfer to another train, do I have to pay AGAIN?
