Hehe yo i hear the irony in your comment, but for everyone who might not: It's Nal-Ra, he's asian :-D
Match-fixing is yet another form of corruption. I resent that. But even more i hate the idea of betting on anything, e-Sports, regular Sports, Casino-games, the Stock-Market...
You are either playing with the same chances and knowledge as everyone else and thus have no better chance of winning; OR you have insider knowledge which will be punished if discovered in ANY of the above disciplines
But seriously it appears to me very possible that Flash might be involved as well. I think not many players can beat him when he plays standart, and he is really sometimes throwing away games like the finals of the OSL like it were on purpose. Very sad for the E-sport. -.-
And probably Hyuk is the best player in the world but he gets very very well payed to throw all his games away haha!!!11oneone ;D
omg seriously? even if it were only SC2: Blizzard is shoveling their own grave excluding OGN and MBC. Also, its stupid of Blizzard to end the beta in 2 days (and i hope they reconsider), because there are sooo many bugs with Patch 13. Patch 13 makes me (and many others) crash or drop 9 out of 10 games!
The broadcasting rights were not just for sc2. Kespa no longer has the right to broadcast Brood War after August! Neither does OGN/MBC unless they negotiate a deal with GomTV!
Dude are you kidding me? On the Oldboy series go.go was hilarious. He was just awesome. I never really liked go.go before, but after that episode I was really sad that go.go was involved in the scandal. T_T
I don't know how I feel about the betting scandal. My limited knowledge tells me the Korean Professional Starcraft scene based not on the enjoyment of the game, but on profit for sponsors and networks. Starcraft players also don't really have a future income via progaming, most will be around for maybe a few more years tops, then what? They're kind of exploiting the exploiters in a way. On the other hand it sucks for all the other players who will be negatively affected.
look for video cards or any other component you need on tigerdirect(dot)com. with the nvidia fermi's recently coming out all of the prices of previously "high end" graphics cards have been driven down quite a bit. Like the GTX 260 OC for $179 or GTX $114. Both should be sufficient for SC2
Wow, the Kespa/Blizzard "beef" is quite interesting, and I think many have foreseen that. I really like the cooperation between Blizzard and GomTV. Kespa is a company that did much for the sport, but it's also a company you learned to hate abit. On the other hand, GomTV have always had a more fan interest friendly approach, rather than having huge conrol over the e-sports market in Korea and is much more accessable for the foreign audiences. There will be interesting changes in korean e-sports.
Hi. I'm the dude who made the comment that appears in the start of this video. Thumb this up if you don't give a crap and think I should stfu. Thanks.
@davidr64yt You just told it like it is and exposed your bromance level. Judging from the amount of thumbs up on that comment it's basically how most of the subscribers feel.
I'm pretty sure blizzard sold the right to wc3 and broodwar to GOM too. Apparenly in August, after PL, Kespa is not aloud to broadcast broodwar games without GOM tv's approval.
@moletrap moletrap, what it means is that if Kespa wants to broadcast Starcraft, they have to pay money to GOMtv. and from what I read it sounded like it was ALL blizzard games not just sc2.
Wait a second. Blizzard makes SC2 yes, but rights to broadcast? They've sold the game, whether or not someone broadcasts it is not within their rights imo.
This is not like TV-rights. They're not directors and actors making the final product (tv program) and sellings rights to broadcast, they're making a game. Any tournaments ect is completely out of Blizzards hands, and if the makers of the tournament choose to broadcast it it's their right.
@rillel89 The Terms of Agreement may state otherwise. No one reads those, but who knows? Anyway, people are making money off broadcasting their games, so it's not too farfetched that they can stop them from broadcasting.
@Nostalgamagic Making money off something you made, but has nothing further to do with you it not farfetched at all.
The manufacturers of footballs doesn't get a cut from all the football tournaments in the world. The talents is in the players and the clubs.
Blizzard put absolutely NO effort into tournaments. All the work and talent is not Blizzards doing. They basically just want free money, which is why I'm against it.
What people are forgetting about some asian cultures, especially in gambling and corruption. It's most often not the players' intention to cheat or throw games. Usually, big illegal betting gangs would threaten the players offstage to take the bribes and cooperate. I doubt all these players would take such measly amount of money to throw games. There probably is violence and gang related threats involved.
@Nostalgamagic In the link provided to teamliquid, it says "2~6.5 million won ($2k~6.5k)." Yeah, $2k total to throw all those matches and risk their entire career and E-sport as a whole is not worth it to me.
Holy crap. I did not know about the scandel, but I thought that asians had a better code of honor than us about this stuff. And I thought that korean pro gamers were making enough money already, well I guess not apparently. Really dissapointing, but thanks for bringing it up moletrap.
@thelovebat I don't blame most of these guys. Pro gamers earn a lot less than you think esp if they're not in a high-rolling team like SK or KT, and once they reach mid 20s/Military service, their careers are over. Plus many support their families. If someone offered a guy 6 grand to toss a couple games, I'm not surprised at all some went for it.
@jackface0410 Most families would probably scoff at them and be more than frustrated for doing something as bad as cheating, no matter what the reason. Its the principle my man. I wouldn't feel very good about knowing someone was providing for the family by cheating. What happens once their career is over and they can't support their families by cheating or throwing matches? Catch 22.
