  • WHAT? Marc Bolan was asked what a metal guru was in an interview, and he said 'It's a car man, its a CAR!' You're all nuts!

  • Comment removed

  • @ScandinavianSingers different opinions out there.the biography doesn't say.with poetry it's hard to say.some believe it's not about anything in particular , about a car who will bring him anywhere he wants, about a drink, about a God or gods that will bring him something good,or about love that he is hoping for.I'd like to think it's about a part inside Marc that is waiting and longing for something real and genuine.

  • @mymusic777ify Hi, I actually found the answer here

    wikipedia . org / wiki / Metal_Guru

It's about his personal vision of a god (creator of the

universe), Marc didn't believe in any specific "normal"

religion, more in a "cosmic" god. "Has it been like a

silver-studded sabre-tooth dream?" from the lyric probably

means that he asks this god "has life on earth and maybe

on other planets in cosmos developed like you thought/

    dreamed ?"

  • hahaha bad ass fucking song!! What does his shirt say?? Its got something to do with cocaine...

  • @devilduck10"his shirt says, cocaine it is the real fucking coke.

  • @3007jae that is a funny t shirt. and considering that when Coca Cola first came out - it actually did have cocaine in it - so - there is some truth to that shirt.

  • Now go and listen to "The Smiths - Panic" which I've only just found out was lovingly inspired by this :-)

  • @81Mace81 I'd just read that, and it's only when I listened back to this I noticed! It's pretty obvious when you know...

  • Metal Guru, good up load, like the sound of the original like you did, good work.

  • I'm not even joking. This song, is something of an epiphany to me. I've heard this before, years and years ago. But I'm stumbling on it now by accident. So I'm getting some crazy nostalgic feeling now. And I think I'm actually in love. This is fucking brilliant.

  • When i was about 10 (?), 40 years ago, this was the very first LP i ever baught...the black one with T-Rex in Gold ;-) LOVED it, still LOVE it :-)

    greetz

  • I love this slice of punk rock in 1972. Yeah, Bolan was ahead of the times.

  • @hearditman hate to burst ya bubble...It's Glam not Punk

  • @GarnetBloodstone13 Steady on there Sherlock.......I was making the point that in this song you can see/hear the seeds of Punk!

  • @hearditman again bubble shall be burst Punk was made to make money just like nowadays pop whereas Bolan says himself that even though he has no religion this song is about god

  • @GarnetBloodstone13 Omg, have you been reading the Blue Peter Book on Pop? R U twelve?

  • @hearditman I'm actually 17 and "the what book of what-now"....I know this coz when my dad starts drinking he gets nostalgic...music blasted and internet surfed hence how i know it

  • @GarnetBloodstone13

British punk ("The Great Rock and Roll Swindle") may have been contrived in the way you suggest but making vast sums of loot was never a realistic prospect for the Circle Jerks or the NY Dolls.

  • Comment removed

  • @hearditman

The British didn't have the first clue about punk rock until they saw the Dolls and the Ramones. The 'seeds of punk rock' as you say were sown by AMERICAN bands.

  • @bruntrumble Link Wray and the Sonics ???? well you may as well say The Beatles and The Stones. Didn't Link Wray invent heavy Metal as well? NY Dolls were seen as an extension of glam but more sleazy/trashy. I'll give you The stooges. Please remember I am commenting on a T.Rex channel to T.Rex people, I'm bigging up Bolan to other fans. I did not say he invented punk Rock and would'nt. Punk Rock circa 1976/77 was very Brittish and they took their influences from Brittish bands a lot of the time

  • @hearditman Yeah, he was ahead wasn't he? Should be here now.

  • @hearditman he sure was the best

  • @hearditman this wasnt punk wtf x

  • @monskibabe Take a long walk off a short Pier, mate, you're missing the point.

  • @hearditman

    Punk rock? LOL!

  • @bruntrumble Why, who doyouthink the precursors of punk where

  • @hearditman

Oh the NY Dolls, the Stooges, Link Wray, the Sonics... AMERICAN delinquent rock and roll.

  • @hearditman This was about five years before punk rock crashed the music scene- this is what was referred to as glam rock, and Bolan was the king. Nuff said.

  • This rocks!!

  • medagadu, izechu

  • @Guhfugyamum Boo hoo.

  • @Guhfugyamum What were you expecting on unfounded assumptions? T-Rex. M Bolan was ahead of it's time.

  • @Johnnystrychnine

im not talking shit on this or anything, im just saying that i was hoping for something much heavier

  • @Guhfugyamum Just you keep reading your Harry Potter books and the rest of us will listen to music. Now do one. IYKWIM.......

  • R.I.P Marc Bolan

  • Good song!

  • Long live T. Rex. Love Bolan. Nice Cocaine shirt by the way XD

  • This is my all-time favourite 'play it on my headstone' song. I just love Trex and these 70s glam songs.

  • This is just about the first rock and roll song I ever heard that made me realise just how great rock and roll could be.

It frightened me, how good it could be, and I ran away...

  • @TDJCCSGC Did you ever come back?

  • Man, summer nights, Saturday nights at the clubs, dancing until 3.00am then heading off home to buy the Sunday Times in Hillbrow, Jhb then to sleep - the seventies were just the greatest...will never forget ..they were good times to be young and free...pavement cafes still sleepily open......wow.

  • Metal Guru - woow i'm 16 again ;-)

  • what a tune!

  • one of the greatist songs of all time

  • i checked this out because johnny marr mentioned in a interview that it was a big influence, and i can definitely hear it. good stuff!

  • iloveyou soo much :)

  • just before the song fades away at the end, I can hear Marc talking, sounds like he's saying "once more"

  • How could the music industry got from this to the todays crap :O???

  • @WolkieNL I agree with you so much what the hell happened!

  • Always loved this band. One of first recors I bought was Electrical Warrior : then i followed them up to Zinc Alloy. I think Marc has been quite an underated songwriter. He was very good at penning pop-rock song and his voice was brilliant. One of the best and seminal artists in the 70's . It's a pity he failed becoming big in the USA, this would have changed everything

  • @Italystonesfan I agree totally. If he'd made it in the states it would have changed everything. Although I believe he has cult status, certainly in New York, in the US of A

and that is bigging him up in the rest of the world.......sorta.

  • We sing this at the Villa in tribute to big John Carew! Johnnie Carew is it you!

  • fuckin class

  • fucking quality tune!!!

  • It sounds like "Panic" by The Smiths ;-D

(I know that "Metal Guru" is much older)

  • @ParanoiderBuchfink It was intentional. Morrisey kinda liked T.Rex as did J. Marr.

  • i love his voice

  • @theefoolonthehill his voice makes me feel all young and happy :)

  • jaaaaaaaaa...guter alter 70er Rock..oh wie ihn vermisse....das war und ist musik von allerfeinsten!!!!
