Hi, I noticed you posted some Hmong videos, the Miao are related historically (on the Chinese side of the boarder) as you probably know...the bowl eating is the shaman's way of proving the spirits are with him and protecting him from injury. It is a demonstration of his connection with the spirits. The idea is the community gains trust and confidence in the shaman. Hope this helps. be well, Thomas
