One of the best tackles I saw was from one my own defenders, actually. It was really a revenge tackle, as the winger had been niggling him all game without repercussion from the Ref. So he did a perfectly timed tackle on the guy... and the winger left the game in an ambulance. The winger deserved it, and the Ref could do nothing as it was technically not a foul. Of course, we didn't find out it was deliberate until after the game, but hey.

If you read the game, you rarely if ever need to throw yourself into tackles, you intercept, take up positions that simply stop attackers from doing what they want to do etc. There's much more to defending than hard tackles.
