  • powdered pool chlorine is usable if you get non-stablized versions of it. it should only have calcium hypochlorite in it. anything else is bound to a stabilizer, the most common of which is cyanuric acid (cyanide). in the pool no big deal you aren't drinking it a lot, for potable water treatment it's bad. most powdered chlorine is around 50% strength by weight, calculate ppm by weight. 2 pounds powdered chlorine=1 pound chlorine gas and 1 gallon of water is ~8.25lbs. pools are around 5ppm.

  • @ccg711 You are right...I have been doing more study on the uses of "Pool Chlorine" great stuff and relatively cheap too!

  • Do you have any experience with chlorine tablets? I've heard they are sold in the pool section and last longer than regular bleach. I have no idea if that is true and if they are good to store or not. Thank you for any advice!

  • I have no first hand knowledge about the subject, but I've read a little. It sounds "sound" to me! In fact I was going to buy some from "Wally world". Do some research though.

  • Bleach has a shelf life of about a year. If you want to prepare for longer then that this survivalist guy has a good vid:

  • 5 stars I've BTDT bleach is so good to have! I don't think people realize how gross things can get after a disaster when buildings are damaged and there is no running water and sewage pipes are damaged. Even when your prepared with clean water it can get really gross. Mold grows so fast too without a/c combined with everything being wet and the humidity.

  • Well due to the fact that I live in CA (and only a brief stay in TX) I am not an expert on either of those topics. I will try and get one out that may be of benefit.

    Kory

  • Important subject. Well presented. Please continue to post your lectures on emergency preparedness.

  • Thank you! I am always interested in those who appreciate my work. Did you get a chance to view my other videos on water preservation and storage? I will be soon be finished editing my lecture on 72 hour kits entitled Is 72 hours enough?

Also is there a particular topic you'd like covered?
