Greetings around the world from me, FLYING CLOUD NINE, in my messy music room in California. After enjoying TULL's masterpiece, "Living In the Past", check out my more recent music creation that is a response to all those "living in the past".
Like all of Ian Anderson this a very sweet smooth song to remember the past as he says. He also preys for us all to be forgiving which we need a lot. Good Great artist He weighs about 100 hundred pounds more now days
@VinceMincemeat well to be honest I don't know about the rest, but I do think U2 is terribly overrated... by the way I've been to Ireland quite a lot of times... such great stuff is played in the streets and pubs of Dublin!
@Aqualung1989 I met someone the other day at a Flogging Molly Gig who had met Ian Anderson and his famous flute and he said he was the biggest fucking Twat he had ever met. He lost some brownie points that night. And this geezer was so upset by the one legged flute-ist long haired cunt he went home and smashed up his copy of Aqualung. And didnt have a wank for 5 days!!! That was nothing to do with Anderson his daughter was away at summer camp!!!
Todays' music has no content. It is all about the same things. Slapping bitches, killing hos' or someboy else. Thugs don't make music, musicians do and here is a perfect example!!!
You are so fortunate to have seen Tull. Ian Anderson is an absolute master of the different and of woodwind instruments. I have listened to Tull since I was a kid and love it to this day. People ask me "what style " of music is this and I really don't have an answer for them. I love it to this day! My all time favorite is "Minstrel in the Gallery".
Cant remember exactly when but saw Tull perform this at the National Stadium (boxing) Dublin. Was prob about 15 so 1969ish. Also on bill Atomic Rooster !
JT plays with a 6/8 Jazz approach here...nice ! My brother introduced me JT in 1972 (when I was just 10 years old) I liked that band (first 5 albums) immediately..Later forget about their music an now it becomes pure nostalgia when I´ve the chance to listen to the old albums...and makes me melancholic because I realize that life is so brief. How could I know than reaching the almost 50 so quickly ? Ya know those thoughts?
Much nicer than music today - you can hear all the words and there's a proper melody. Shit that's what my parents used to say when I listened to Motorhead. Anyway - this is just pure class.
Thanks for mentioning Frank Zappa, drsambo74. He is a highlight of 20th century music overall, but even he had his influences...Igor Stravinsky and Miles Davis being two of his main influences. He also enjoyed Edgard Varese's work.
Again though, as far as Jethro Tull goes, Jethro Tull is an excellent band with tremendously talented musicians.
I wholeheartedly believe that the music that was released between 1965 and 1975 was the best music of the 20th century! While I do acknowledge people like Scott Joplin, Robert Johnson, and Igor Stravinsky to get the ball rolling, so to speak - the music that was released during this time by all genres was the best ever created.
Jethro Tull is one of the best bands ever...even though they are not a Heavy Metal band.
all todays music is just replicating music from the 60s and 70s. personally i hate todays music. i hope jesus returns and raises frank zappa from the dead he was great
@lekunberriko1: Me too!!......... first heard at 95 mph in my 1971 Ford, headed down 95 and 1 to Daytona for the 1973 Daytona 500......this made me fly!!!
great music by Tull, just a pity youtube is blocked in China by some people with no brains or real understanding, something offends and the action they always take is to block the site.
now you have to use a good VPN or proxy to use many sites.
history offends some, the truth is often the enemy. so deprive everyone just to keep in control.
I can't help wondering if there is any intelligence in such people.
what they're fighting",.Ian Anderson was very perceptive. If we were all as perceptive as he was I think many of the media manufactured problems would not be happening now.He was not one of the many sheep in the 60's and 70's.I am embarrassed to admit I was one of those sheep.
Don't be embarrassed, its called growing up. You'll be surprised how many people consider themselves adults but are easily lead by the nose. Truly deniers of their own denial and thus living in the past.
my all time favorite Tull tune. I was 18 in 1969 and yes, priapus56, you are correct in your statement about the originality of music in the 60's, twas a wonderful time to be alive. I don't want to whine, but I HATE today's music, or at least mainstream music. Can you imagine Bob Dylan on American Idol, he probably wouldn't make it past the first audition. They ALL have that same boring voice. No originality AT ALL. But the youth today buy it , literally, I mean Lady GaGa? Such a pity
@kdd3051 That is so true about today's music (if you can actually call it that?!?). I was singing a little at work the other day (actually this song). Someone my age came up to me and didn't know what I was singing but the manager knew and he said to the other employee, "You don't know that song, it's great but I bet you know the Black Eyed Peas?" Hahh, how saaadddddd it is.
@kdd3051 True to an extent. People can sing just like b4 but the machine will produce voices to sound same, and most lame to begin with. There was a lot of good music in 80s and 90s, it is radio that is bad.
@kdd3051 Most of the youth today. I'm a highschooler. Jethro Tull, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Lynyrd Skynyrd Are my favorite bands. The new "music" requires no talent. Just electronics and computers.
@kdd3051 hey dont be so quick to judge all todays youth, i am only 14 and i also hate todays music, todays music is exact oppisite of what music was invented for which is to be a creative outlet for your talents, nowadays evewrything is electronic bull shit, if u dont know how to sing no problem just alter your voice, cant play guitar just add some generic electric sounds, who needs talent? its not music just some rich wannabes who wanna make more money. if u look good theyll make u a 'star'
@kdd3051 Oh the terrible terrible things i would do to have been 18 in 1969. But nope end up in the generation known mainly for an obsession with disney channel, guys with the voice of a 12 year old girl, and not doing anything good for society or themselves. The only sane people who saw that the music their parents listened to was way way better (like myself) can only complain about it on youtube because we are so outnumbered. We need a movement to knock this generation back to their senses.
Has to be / should be in the top 100 songs of all-time. But then, Tull music has always had that unique, different following. No, too many Tull favorites to try and select the "top". [...Sorry, please excuse my blatant bias.] Thanks A89.
Yet ANOTHER example of the fantastic, astounding originality of the '60's. Nearly every month something came out and you said, "Bloody hell, i've never heard anything like that before!"
Great song. From 1969, and the past was not as far back as it is now, forty years on, 1969-2009. Where did all that time go? Thanks, Aqualung1989, for posting the song without video, which is much easier for our listening pleasure.
This is amazing. But sorry, Lady Gaga is also amazing in parts.

That bass line is great-some kind of complex counterpoint, or something. This is the song that caused me to buy the album in 72.
