  • Good, solid information and observation about his work.

No 'follow your bliss" crap or "live your dream garbage."

As a writer, I can tell you that it is about the work.

  • It's hard. Imma basketball player and one of my biggest dreams is to make it into the NBA. But if I don't make it then writing is my backup. But I don't have a lot time to write bkas I work on my game EVERYDAY for the longest hours.

  • Wow it takes him 7 months to write a book. I don't know whether I can write and not edit it as I am terrible for that.

  • i like this video because i love writing and am writing one right now

  • Thanks for the wisdom :)

  • I have written lots of stories 16 years ago and since then I have always wanted to be a writer/author. I have kept these stories and I am always saying I will write some more and I never will or add more on to what I have written/update them. It has always been my ambition and to do it before i die.

  • I don't write every day. I guess I'm fucked.

  • @Blink316E

Probably You write in internet foruns and even in Youtube. It's a great start. Don't miss the opportunity to canalize Your tast for writting in to a paper. Cheers!

  • Good advise thanks for sharing :)

  • I really like this info thanks for sharing .

  • Thank you so much for this video. This was incredibly useful and encouraging. I am definitely taking writing much more seriously by attempting to work on something everyday rather than just when I feel like it. Thank you!

  • I really like your strategy. A chapter a day is great hahah. I'd love to be an author some day. That is my true dream!

  • Brilliant!!

Have been inspired by the new on-line publishing phenomena and have put together a few articles about this very subject. This guide is totally free so please request this at book-publishing.jimdo.com/contact/

  • Who do you think you are?

  • I've been following almost his exact same plan, a chapter a day. It works pretty well - at least for me it does. And I know what he means about finding your voice. I wrote TONS of garbage before I finally found it.

808Lana also had a good point - a lot of editing does slow down the process. That's why we do different drafts, so we don't have to do all the editing at once.

  • read read read write write write

  • I think that if you want to write well you must have talent. You also have to read a lot; you must have a good vocabulary, and a good story to tell.

But if you have a good story and you write it bad then its worthless. I also believe its impossible for someone to teach you how to write good if you do not have aptitude for this kind of things. I mean you can learn to draw better, but its useless if you arent any good at it, or become a musician if you have a gross ear.

  • fuck its so sad. I have so many stories in my head, but i cant let em out cuz i absolutely cant write :((

  • If you can't write, don't right.

  • I definitely agree with Stephen King's ON WRITING being a great tool for writers. Over the past 10 years, I've written numerous short stories and poems, as well as have written about seven unfinished novels. I'm working on my seventh novel right now, and hope to have it finished by the end of the year.

It's never a matter of how you'll get published,....but when you've got the passion for a project, it's not a matter of how, but a matter of time. Good Luck!!!

  • Reading a lot of books about writing, the most notable is Stephen King's On Writing, there is a common theme. To be a good writer, you must be a good reader. You have to dedicate yourself to reading and writing each day. Stephen noted that if this sounds like a chore to you, then writing definitely isn't a good career path for you.

  • TRADERS POST, I know you posted what you said here 5 months ago but I'm just seeing it now. I think I'm going to do that and just write. I feel as though I keep editing as I'm wiritng and it's just slowing down my process to much and I get caught. I want to be free too, like you and King. I think I'll try the advice. Did you read that in his book on learning how to write a novel? I think I might get that, too:)

  • So, you're an actual writer? Have you published your work before?

  • I am writing an action book. I'am over 1000 lines on notepad. My question is when should i stop and how?

  • Everyone has a different writing techniques, and different stories to tell.

So it really depends on what kind of story you are telling. For me, I planned out my entire book so I know how it begins and how it ends.

Also I good way to become a better writer is by reading a lot. A "good" Writer must be educated and use different elements of llterature.

  • ...You should stop when the story is finished. When all the questions in the story are answered.

  • Damn solid advice. I actually spewed soda when I heard "five thousand words," though. My early work, the stuff I've got in a truck, for which I'll never even consider seeking publication (ever!), comes in at about a million words in all (that's four books and a shitload of short work). Want to start writing something decent? Write a million words of shit first. Sooner you get started, the sooner you'll be cranking out something of quality.

  • lol L Ron. Me, I never finish the drafts. I get to annoyed and just postpone writing

  • That's really interesting. Thanks.

  • unknown guyz

  • oh yeah number 2888! I am the one. you are too. wait, no you are not the one like i am the one, you are just some one. a random one of an infinite some. have fun and be someone.

  • ya'll think ya'll got it bad, i've been on my first 10pages going on 2monthes now.

That's including my day-to-day writing nature....

  • Useful advice. The simple answer is that if one wants to make it,so to speak, then one has to put the effort in. Thank you from the UK.

  • A chapter a day? Bloody hell, I don't know how you manage it. I never take any less than two days, and I usually take about a week for a chapter.

What sort of books do you write?

  • Excellent advice, thanks a bunch. Have a good one!

  • What kind of books you wrote, and why you think they wont be pulished?

  • thanks for your advice ;0

  • Great advice. Thanks for posting.

  • Who is this guy?

Iain Banks writes for 3 months a year. Sells millions!!!

  • Jimbola.. When this guy reaches the level of Iain Banks, then he too can holiday for half the year or so. I bet that Banks writes more than he says though!

  • Mate, very helpful yet simple advice from experience without the ego attached. Well done and thanks.

    tom - Australia
