could kim basinger not control her body? it looks like the joker is just swinging her around like a rag doll, yet she isn't unconscious, though it looks like she lost consciousness a few times.
@germansluck Well, the Joker did scare her a lot in this film, so I wouldn't blame her if she was losing consciousness. Plus, he had a gun in his hand, so that probably made her even more frightened.
Okay, I apologize. I like both jokers, they both made me laugh and their both great. I have changed my mind complete, they are both equal but cleverly insane in their own way.
i think darkKnight was good cause it was more realistic but Tim Burtons batman.. oh man its just EPIC.. my comic world comes to live :D thank you Nichelson
This was the main problem with the Joker in The Dark Knight. THERE WERE NO JOKES. Ledger's portrayal of his role was outstanding. But The Dark Knight left me asking, can any maniac with face paint just call themselves The Joker these days?
They were just subtle, the fire truck on fire, "Do you think you can steal from us and walk away?" "Yeah". Will the real Batman please stand up? when the judge get's in her car and opens the letter with directions as to where she's going and it reads UP. Ledger just wasn't as flamboyant as Nichloson's which is seen in some Jokers.
I don't think that TDK's Joker was intended to be funny. Although TDK was a very gripping and mind provoking film, the realism took away alot of entertainment value and left little room for jokes or humor. They pretty much had to alter the Joker's character and personality in order to fit him into the serious story.
The lines and methods that you mentioned were clever. But imo, without the Joker's trademark comical antics, they seemed more fitting for another character like the Riddler.
Well it seems your looking for the kind of joker they use in comics as kind of a gimmick, in TDK he wasn't meant to be immediately funny to the audience, just to himself, it's the more you watch him the more you start to laugh at Joker which is one of the more horrifying things about the character, like they got me laughing at the interrogation scene last time I watched it.
Everyone's sense of humor is unique, and I'm not going to try to dictate what is and isn't funny. In my opinion, TDK's Joker just wasn't funny. I'm not an uptight guy and I enjoy dark humor, but I've never found anything about that character to laugh at. He seemed more like an embodiment of the sadism and cruelty that people are capable of, rather than any form of comic relief.
Of course, from what I understand, Ledger's Joker was from a completely different set of comics anyway.
Oh he deff is and he wasn't meant to be funny except to himself and those like him. He wasn't intended for comic relief as you said (minus the pencil) he was meant to horrify you. My point is that there are "jokes" in his performance, just not jokes that make us (relatively) normal people laugh. As far as the comics go, Ledger is more killing joke, tdk returns, arkham asylum. Jack, well he's more of the gimmicky joker that they just throw in from time to time in the comics.
Personally, I didn't find TDK's Joker horrifying. I found it refreshing that the director of this film had the guts to create a character that exhibited why true peace in society is unattainable. After all, the Joker is only human and nothing human is foreign to us.
As for the jokes, like you said, I'm sure that somebody out there found his unpredictability humorous. Laughter is just a way to cope with the unexpected, so some probably did find this surprising character funny.
Yeah i agree Sydpartt2. The Joker isn't intending to amuse anyone else but himself. so TDK was more dark therefore his jokes were dark humored, and i honestly prefer dark humored jokes than to simple one liners and obvious jokes.
Oh really? So I was in the store the other day and this little kid came up to me and he said "I wanna be Batman when I grow up" Now, I'm a giver, I like to help people achieve their goals. So I killed his parents.
And you'd also have to train him in the arts of ninjitsu, all forms of other martial arts, escapement, and how to take on 600 men and become truly invisible.
LOL it is funny. I still love Jack's joker better, it's my own opinion. I'm sorry to say I don't really respect other people's opinions. :( But I laughed a lot too.
You know what. There's really no best joker. I love them both. (well heath a TINY bit more 4 me but not that much) see i luv jack nickleson because he's more of the cartoony happy silly kind. He's freakin hilarious. and i luv heath ledger because he's just soooo dangerous and deadly but still got that crazy happiness in him. R.I.P heath ledger.
Why are people comparing this Joker to DK Joker. DK joker wasent aimed to be like this version it needed to be realistic cause nolans batman films are realistic. Anyway this batman film has nouthing to do with the dark knight
Then tell that to the clueless TDK fags (not you personally, you've got rational sense) who think that Jack sucks and refuse to admit that Heath and Jack did equal roles for what they were going for. There are too many who simply wish to say "1980s suck and so did Jack" and think Heath was more Jokeresque despite having no apparent knowledge of who the Joker is. They're most likely just a bunch of emoteens who think death and carnage is the best thing in the world.
In my oppinion heath ledgers joker was entertaining in chris nolans world. Nolans joker had to be serious it had to be scary and have a realistic tone to ledgers joker because nolans batman films are realistic.Burtins world is unrealistic its more like the comic book world and i think nichlsons joker was perfect for that world. it would be stupid if nichlsons joker started to do clown stuff in a realsitc world with a realistic storyline.
See they missed all that. Yet they were going for realism, while this one was going for comic book accurateness, which TDKfags and NostalgiaFags like me can never get over.
This is the Joker I know.

I think it might have more to do with desensitization like when he had that camera and the dude in the chair, pretty freaky imo.

I think that Mark Hammil's portrayal was more similar to Arkham Asylum's Joker than Ledger's, since he actually voiced the character in the game.

not talking about the game which is only loosely based on the book.
