Rafter behaved like the ultimate gentleman;so did Pat Cash. Goran gave one of the best speeches in Wimbledon history(this was the first year Sue Barker interviewed the players on court straight after the match);dedicating his victory to his friend was a great gesture. i'm with you. That Wimbledon was just crazy. I was so happy that Ivanisevic finally won Wimbledon after losing three times in the final, but i was also sad that Rafter lost and eventually never won the big one that he should have won in 2002 if he didn't retire. And it was also heartbreaking to see Tim Henman fall short yet again. I really think that 2001 was Henman's best shot at winning or at least making it to the final.

For ten years he was ripping my nervs apart, and then this match happend! I can still remember the silence when he served for the title, not just silence in my house but also in the streets of my town, everyone was watching it, and when rafter hit the net it was like explosion of emotions! Only thought that went thru my mind as was: You fucking idiot, you finally did it!
But the final would not be the same without Rafter and those perfect fans, both Croatian and Aussies!

Goran was a great player and had the best ever serve for a leftie, if not any tennis player. I was fortunate to be at Centre Court for his last Wimbledon match in 2004. After losing, he put on his Croatian football top and departed to a brilliant standing ovation. A true character and a legend!

I've watched Goran lost in 92, 94 and 98 finals... 96 semis, and countless other times in earlier rounds...
This match, July 9th, 2001... was totally worth it.. for all the pain and tears... I could not shedding tears and jumping with joy when he did it... it was like we were with him every moment...
I don't think I'll ever forget the day Goran won Wimbledon. Still remember it like it was yesterday. One of the happiest moments of my life, to see this amazing man lift up that shiny trophy. There's no one who deserved this more than him.

4回目の決勝で初優勝。しかも引退間際で主催者のお情けのワイルドカードから優勝という誰も予想すらしなかった優勝。ライブで見ていたけど、これは泣けたなあ。エドバーグファンだった私にとって、イヴァニセヴィッチはサーブだけの見ててつまらないプレーヤーって感じで好きではなかったけど、この大会以来すっかり好きになってしまった。この世に絶対無理なんてものはないんだと、人生に対する勇気をもらえた気がします。これより泣けたスポーツの試合は今までないなあ。
