It's simple. Just start with a completed cube and screw it up, then reverse the tape. See the hands at the end, that's how he picked it up while filming.

Well done on the rubiks cube, I could never even imagine doing one in under 29 DAYS. Although I've never really done more than pick one up and throw it across the room after 10 seconds. ;)
