I totally agree with you dwyer70905. After the fight one guy said "Pacquiao won because he kept Marquez going back the whole fight. If you are the challenger you must go forward!" and I thougth "Oh man!...what a big misconception a lot of people have about boxing." Pacquiao did just and only what Marquez allowed him to do. Marquez was going backwards because that's what he wanted, Marquez dictated the pace, the distance, the timing, where to fight...every aspect of the fight.

My wife and I were ringside for this fight and clearly saw in person and the little screen in front of us that Juan controlled the fight the entire time. Manny threw tons of punches that hit the air many times. But this is a sport where people hate on those that are great and things to come. Even a blind man could see and hear Juan won this fight! @jgv8679 Take in to account the volume puncher (Pacquiao) threw roughly the same amount of punches as the counter puncher (Marquez) it tells you all you need to know about who was the ring general. He threw over 1000 against Margarito and only 600 against Marquez. Even in his interview he says he was wary of being countered. It was clear to everyone that Pacquiao was gun shy.
I can't believe it!!! I saw it second time and Pac won by at least 2 rounds. This is very confusing. I guess I prefer agression rather than counterpunching. This is by no means robbery. Pac won 3 rounds on my card, dunno what some people were watching, HBO coverage was shocking watching it back, they were terrible, the Primetime coverage with Khan on commentary were much much better, seeing the fight as it actually was.

Pacquiao is the most overrated fighter ever. I'm Filipino but I happen to be a boxing fan, not a pacquiao fan, but I wanted Pacman to win only because it would lead to a Mayweather fight. He has to push the fight and take all risks or there will be no fight. But what MP did do was play JMM's game and still outlanded him. Great analysis as always, but I would like to discuss the way you score fights . You say you look for what a boxer is stopping the other guy from doing. This requires that you have knowledge of both fighters before the fight. You have to know that pac likes to use his left and Marquez is a counter puncher etc. This means that scoring of fights to some degree depend on your prior knowledge and in theory the same fight can be scored differently depending on the level of boxing insight.

Anyway you slice it Marquez controlled Pac, stayed out of harm's way, and landed clean shots that hurt Pac. Pac did not have an answer for Marquez's puzzle on this night and Pac got out boxed consistently for the duration of the fight. You saw it all over Pac's face as the fight ended- he was ashamed that he lost, whereas Marquez? He knew he won.

My wife and I were ringside for this fight and clearly saw in person and the little screen in front of us that Juan controlled the fight the entire time. Manny threw tons of punches that hit the air many times. But this is a sport where people hate on those that are great and things to come. Even a blind man could see and hear Juan won this fight! He threw over 1000 against Margarito and only 600 against Marquez. Even in his interview he says he was wary of being countered. It was clear to everyone that Pacquiao was gun shy.

Well, I'm no boxing analyst, I just watch for entertainment. I don't see the controversy in Manny's win. I could see a round or two that goes either way, but I can understand a score card going 115-113, 114-114, or 113-115 Pacquiao-Marquez. That's disregarding who the aggressor was.
Marquez had excellent counterpunching and Manny's power shots were not too solid.

I had pac 115-113, I could easily score it the other way if I watched again because there were some hard to judge rounds. @dwyer70905 MP didn't prevent any plans of JMM. But you have to understand, he is fighting a counter puncher. Which means he does not have a choice but to chase JMM down. He has to push the fight and take all risks or there will be no fight. But what MP did do was play JMM's game and still outlanded him. You give all credit to JMM for doing his game plan but none to MP for actually making it a fight. Watch it again and keep this in mind, and take in account punch totals. I had it 9 to 3 for MP.

Marquez surely won that fight, even if by a small margin.
Judges couldn't have Pacquiao losing because of the big money Pac-Mayweather promo will make so they gave the fight to him.
Quite pathetic because if Pacquiao puts up this same performance against Mayweather (presuming it even happens) he will undoubtably lose.

1)Marquez was on his pivot all night, Manny could not rope him 2) Manny had his speed, Marquez just seemed to be pre programed he just knew what was coming and performed the necessary defense 3)Marquez was punctuating many rounds with clean and effective shots aside from the many counter punches and jabs he was landing.Whn I saw his wife crying and Freddie telling him he was down I knew a robbery was going to take place unless there was a KO. Styles makes fight.
Marquez is an out-boxer and his style commonly give problems to punchers like Pacquiao. Nothing new about this fight.
This is why I do not know why Floyd still doesn't want to accept to fight Pacquiao since Pacquiao already accepted the random drug testing even before the Ortiz negotiation.
I am a Pacquiao fan but shit, I just want to see this fight happen, it doesn't matter who wins or lose.
Like what I always say, Floyd has 7-12 inch advantage just ifght

Even though Manny didn't look dominate neither did JMM, Pac was more the aggressor and mostly outworked JMM. I had it 115 to 113 for Manny neither boxer dominated any round, the whole fight was close.
I tend to favor the aggressor as he is the one trying to make the fight entertaining and taking more risk of being countered coming in. So more close rounds belong to Manny.
To be the man you need to beat the man. JMM just held his own with the man.

what was different was manny was up against a slick fighter and got exposed.
manny looks good against brawlers who are easy to hit,but gets exposed against slick boxers.thats why he avoids them,and thats why he put off fighting marquez again for so long each time,2 years then 3 years after each fight.if manny doesnt fight marquez again next,he'll fight another easy to hit brawler to make him look good again,and make the manny fans think he's something special again.which he aint.

Great analysis as always, but I would like to discuss the way you score fights . You say you look for what a boxer is stopping the other guy from doing. This requires that you have knowledge of both fighters before the fight. You have to know that pac likes to use his left and Marquez is a counter puncher etc. This means that scoring of fights to some degree depend on your prior knowledge and in theory the same fight can be scored differently depending on the level of boxing insight.

i saw the video, the LBC. this is wat i saw, R1-not clear, R2-marquez R3-pacquiao,R4-marquez,R5-even,R6-pacquiao,R7-undecided,R8-marquez,R9-marquez,R10-even,R11-pacquiao,R12-pacquiao. close fight its hard to judge. maybe the judges give the credit to pacquiao because he's the title holder. as i know if the fight is so close it is always given to the title holder.

Count the punch landed from both fighters for each rounds. Boxing is primarily about who lands more and harder punches. Who does did more damage in the fight. Look at Marquez's face and compare that to Pacquiao's.

I would avoid using the CompuBox stats to justify Pacquiao's victory If I were u, as Marquez's punch stats were better than Pacquiao's in the first two fights. Making the trilogy 2-1 Marquez if u want to play that game. Numbers don't lie, but they don't tell the whole story either.

Cuts and Bruises are something ring doctors and cornermen should concern themselves with. I don't see how either Pacquiao or Marquez's face proves who won the majority of rounds. Marquez doesn't need need to hurt Pacquiao to out-box him.

Allow me to explain: when a boxing match goes through all 12 rounds it goes to the scorecards, the boxer who won the most rounds overall wins the fight. Marquez was out-boxing Pacquiao for most the rounds, despite his face. Therefore, he should have got the decision but was robbed. A boxer doesn't win or lose a fight with his face. The fight was close. It could have gone either way, but Pacquiao took it primarily because Marquez, the challenger, GAVE UP on the 12th round! It was no robbery.
