  • Gotta give you props NWReviews for keeping your eyes on the future. Good luck with your reviews bro!

  • Why would you compare a real device to an imaginary one. Of course an imaginary device does everything 100 times better, BECAUSE IT DOESN'T EXIST!!

  • @overvision Haha, yeah I see your point, but at the time I made this video (Oct 2009) they were both "imaginary devices", both never seen, and both expected to come out in 2010. So, I did the best I could comparing them.

  • @NWReviews LOL, I hear ya'. To tell u the truth, I also thought the Courier was a cool idea whose time had come. But I'm learning to respect Apple's way of keeping things functional and realistic. Imagine if Apple had released some hyped up version of iPad that promised more than it could deliver. Or if they caved in & installed Flash on their devices. We'd all be bitchin' about often their mobile devices crashed! Besides whatever Courier promised, sooner or later there will be an app for that

  • si existeeeeeeeeee!!!! en enero fue patentado!! ignorante!!

  • i lol when he said like a gigantic ipod touch

  • Courier

  • It will be OLED, because MS used it in the Zune HD to :). Thumbs up for the whitboard :).

  • No multi task is pretty much a dealbreaker for me. But then again, what tablet out there is as fast as the iPad?

You guy's should check out Lenovo's Tablet/Netbook... cool idea

  • @NWReviews Why didn't they just cut the keyboard off, fuck.

  • @NWReviews the apple OS 4.0 will have multitaking

  • @NWReviews surprise! os4 has multi task. :D

  • why is everone so worrid to bet ipad ithought any tablet that came out allready bet it , and ppl are still bring it up. ha ha

  • @NitekMuscle

You hit the nail on the head, I think. iPad looks more like a toy than a device for artists. It should have had a stylus as well as multi touch--for designers, illustrators and others who have favored Apple in the past. Looks like selling media through iTunes is what iPad is geared to do.

  • @PhotoCher Also looks like a cool device for artist "displaying' media!

  • hey man. i'm from the future (3/10/2010.) and we still don't know squat.

  • @simsandwhich FUCK YES!

  • I can just imagine going on facebook, and wanting to change songs. You have to exit out of that app just to change a song that's not in the current playlist. Or trying to send an email and watch a video at the same time. Just not possible.

How Apple can claim this is a "magical" device when they've imposed an artificial limitation is just beyond me. No matter how low the price is, it's just not anywhere near the basic functionality of other devices.

  • Do you even own an iPhone or iPod Touch. You do NOT have to leave the application without leaving the app. Just double tap the home button, tap on music (it may look like you have left, but you haven't) and then your done. And why would you want to send an email as your watching a movie? It's just pointless. Eventually, Apple will learn that multi-tasking is awesome and they'll make the best multi-tasking pane ever.

  • Also, if you've noticed they pushed back when they're in stores so hopefully they are learning the bad parts of the device and are adding things to it (a camera perhaps?? Who knows).

  • Judging by your horrible sentence construction, I'm guessing you did not read my comment with attention.

I do own an iPod touch (Jailbroken, obviously) and while you can change song whilist not in iMusic/iPod app, you can not change a song NOT IN THE CURRENT PLAYLIST without entering Music/iPod app.

And as for the email/movie thing, that was really what came into my mind first. You can imagine more useful (and integral) circumstances when you'll need multi-tasking to keep your sanity.

  • Your right you can't, but why don't you just create a playlist of all of your favorite songs (than you could). In the iPhone SDK they have many things that the developer can add to their apps to make them seem like they're multi tasking, such as, push notifications, iPod integration, and others.

  • You see, that's where the problem is; I shouldn't have to work around the device, it should work around me.

Besides, I don't know what I want to listen to before I play - I just go freestyle. I find the iPhone OS platform a little too limiting. Apple should really sort their shit out on this one.

  • I"m a Apple Fan and the iPad is a TOTAL fail. Video output.( So what?) Reading ebooks. (Who reads novels now? textbooks for sure) iWork (What's the point when you can't multi-task? I would like to research while taking notes) Gaming (Playing games on the iPad makes you look like a freak in public. It's too big. I've got PSP or PS3 to do the job) FAIL,FAIL,FAIL

  • "Who reads novels now?"

The hell are you talking about?!

  • @Confe55ed People who are literate read, multi task? the ipad can multitask its running a updated iphone os which can also multitask. Applications can run in the background its an option devs have had for a while thanks to the updated SDK.

Gaming....well i dont actually care that much......."freak in public?" oh please grow up.

I do however agree that they are pushing a market which might not be ripe yet.

    Peace

    Brian

  • @Confe55ed

600000 sold in 2 weeks / US only / WiFi only

    yup it sure failed.

  • I'm an Apple fanatic, but I have to admit if the Courier is anything like what I've seen in the renderings then Apple is going to be totally embarrassed for releasing such a shitty lack luster product. The ipad should have been a Newton on steroids!

    Apple screwed this one up

  • a newton on steroids is still a newton: terrible, pricey and a complete flop.

  • The Newton did not flop because it was a "terrible" product quite the contrary, the device was quite good, yes the handwriting recognition was an early rendition and in a state of flux, but overall the Newton was rock solid. The reason it "flopped" was because the market was not ready for such a device (it was ahead of its time) If you could go back in time to 1984 and put iphone in its current state in the market it would "flop". Take a look at Microsoft's "Courier" it's a newton on Steroids

  • no, the handwriting recognition was terrible, it was far too large to fit in anyones pocket, despite it being a pocket device, and it cost $1000. All of these things contributed to it being a financial and commercial failure for apple.

  • No, You are being myopic. You say that the handwriting recog was "terrible" let me ask you this, 2 what would you compare it 2 back then to quantify your assertion? I conceded 2 the fact the digital ink was a bit green but relatively speaking it was quiet good the handwriting recog got progressively better & more accurate the more you used it & Apple was the only company making inroads with the technology If Apple picked up were this Newton left of using todays advancements it would be a hit

  • i'm not even comparing it to other things, i'm saying that it didn't work well at all as something to recognise your handwriting.

  • The newton came out about the same time as the Casio Zoomer, which was developed by PALM. Their Graffiti handwriting recognition was far better. The zoomer failed too, but Palm went on to make the Pilot a couple years later and was a huge success. I think the reason the Newton failed was down to it's high pricetag when other companies were making cheaper, more basic PDA's. Even Sharp, who made the Newton, were also making a cheaper rival product.

  • Completely wrong on most points. The Apple Islate is just a big iphone that will cost $999. The Courier has a specailly designed OS for it, it has 2 7" screens and it will sell for half what the Apple will. There are also other companies coming out with 8.9" touchscreen tablet computers running full windows 7 and will sell for $400.

Apples and Orabges, these are not the same device, they should not be compared at all.

  • You don't know that you idiot. you have absolutely no clue what either of them will cost or what their specs will be because neither of them have been officially announced yet! get you facts straight.

  • @cheesemuffin94

as a matter of fact I know EXACTLY what the islate will be, it is a ten inch iphone. your one of those idiots who thinks because he doesnt know something, no one knows it

  • Actually the Islate will not be running the Iphone OS it will be running a slightly downgraded version of snow leopard and i was mostly talking about the prices are you one of those people who makes up facts when they don't know them

  • @cheesemuffin94

the islate is not a computer, it is a big iphone, you can apologize in three weeks when i am proven right

  • owned?! haha called that one. iPad is so pointless for real....

  • @cheesemuffin94 do you feel stupid now? i was 100% correct and you were totally WRONG

  • Comment removed

  • "The Apple Islate is just a big iphone that will cost $999." Kinda off on the price a little. So u weren't "100% correct" and cheesemuffin94 wasn't "totally WRONG" as u so properly put it like a 9 year old.

  • @SchultzJ90 how much is the 64 gig with 3g? 829

so I was pretty damn close, but my video predictions said 600 bucks and 32 gigs, right on the money

  • @cheesemuffin94

    who is the idiot now?

  • Well, I was close on most of my points and I was closer on the price than your "$999". Considering I wrote this in October of LAST YEAR, I'd say that the gizmodo and cnet article I based my predictions on were mostly right.

I think it's way too early to make make any intelligent guess about the Courier, especially if the argument is that it will be nothing like the iPad. If anything, the iPad underwhelmed me and I would say that it wouldn't be too hard for Microsoft to make a comparable device.

  • Lets be honest, your points were 9.7 or 10.7 inch screen

it was iphone os or leopard os

    look at my VIDEO predictions

    I predicted it would be...

    1 big ipod touch

    2.available 3g

    3. better processor and battery

    4. 600 bucks for 32 gig model

I even predicted a word processing package

So no, your prediction was accurate because it was vague, my videos were very precise and I was right

  • who gives a shit?

  • Okay, first I never saw your videos

Second, I was speaking in certainties... What I actually knew from articles.

Your guess of 600 bucks for a 32 gig model is impressive, but even the experts at CNet didn't know that until the event was unfolding. So it was just conjecture.

I was giving my viewers the facts not my own guesses

We just have different styles, don't try to bash me for it.

  • @NWReviews your video title says nothing about predictions, you stated everything as a fact. The difference is you just repeated what other said, I thought for myself

and most importantly, YOU CALLED ME AN IDIOT, so that is why I ask who the idiot is now, because I was right

  • You are free to search. I have never called you or any of my other viewers and idiot. I would never do such a thing. In fact, I thank you for your views.

The only one that has called you an idiot on here is another viewer named cheesemuffin94. Let me personally apologize since your sensitive ego seems to have been damaged by this. I will also personally write cheesemuffin94 asking him or her not to call you an idiot again.

You are the one hurling insults on here. I have never done so.

  • it is real easy to erase your comments

  • Isn't the courier suppose to be like a journal type of device? Aimed more for those project managers of the world, or at least the business community? It seems to me that the iPad is more of the media device for everyone, and the courier looks to be more of a business PDA with two touch screens? I was just curious

  • The Courier tablet looks like it can also be used within the architecture and other design industries.

The iPad seems good for entry level users and as a second computer for less intensive web-centric sessions.

  • the iPad just seems like a completely useless thing, as you can just buy an iPhone which is better in almost every way, except with a smaller screen. I may not like apple products on principle, but i can smell a complete stinker with the iPad.

  • You cant call it color kindle if it doesnt have e-ink.

There is a reason why Amazon didnt put a black&white LCD display on the Kindle.

  • So will the Courier also function as an e-reader? I want to get which ever one is better in the area of college textbooks.

  • Actually it is fold-able.

  • Well the Apple Tablet seems to be a mobile computer using Mac OS X with netbook capabilities and Microsoft Courier seems to be an advanced netbook with apps, I don't think that it is going to use windows 7.

  • @itsme4880plus

nope, Apple tablet is a big iphone, microsoft courier is an electronic diary type device. Neither one is a tablet computer.

  • text books \ books on itunes.. thats what it will be.

  • you can only download apps to get books on iphone and ipod though

  • i see, so will it operate like an iphone with internet through phone signals?

  • It will be win7. At least the core will be. They will not develop a whole new os just for this. Just a new ui for the win7 system.

  • @chriztelijk wrong, they did create a whole new os for the courier booklet,

  • I doubt the Courier would have Win7. If the video is accurate, than it might be some new OS they're making.

The Courier would blow the Newton 2 out of the water!
