My friend and I love Sound of Music so much, particularly the Austrian maid Frau Schmidt, that we made a parody of the musical told from Frau's perspective. i thought it was funny at first but by the end i was like wth?? the guy singing was funny how he said fruit and wine not food and wine but when the girl sang it was just ridiculous. i'm pretty sure u guys intentionally sang like this. either that or your drunk
I'm a terrible singer, no doubt about it. But I really need to be able to laugh at myself sometimes. Honestly, consider it an inoculation against embarassment if I can do something that awful in a very public way and just own it.
I love it. I went on the actual "Sound of Music tour" in Salzburg (Austrians don't know the film and think we are nuts). The bus was full of international tourist singing the songs in Korean, Farsi etc. It was Kitsch/Cult pure and so much fun (probably comparable with visiting Graceland). They had to close the Gazeebo where this scene was filmed because everyone jumped around in it and sang the songs...until an 80 year old broke her ankle! :)
No it was never popular here. Maybe the "war theme" was still to fresh in the 60s? Of course the tourism industry has caught on (in Salzburg) because the movie is a major reason for tourism to that area.
