  • my 400 is WAY more epic than this but still is not a lot O.o and wtf 8 sided polys? I know a model that will look bad ;)

  • 91 is nothing wtf

  • This is completely useless...just apply the texture to the face and scale it, you don't even need a UVW Map or UVW Unwrap modifier. >.<

  • @Sephern you do if you want to import it to any game engine e.g. UDK or CryEngine3 and also if you need to use marmoset or any other 3D model viewing software.

what you just said is a noob mistake.

  • @Smash3x UDK unwraps the texture for you when you export from Max, and he states in the beginning of the video what the purpose is for the model. Get on my level or gtfo.

  • @Sephern Unity, CryEngine 3 and Source doesnt do that.. get on my level and I've used UDK quite a lot and I've always unwrapped..

  • You should never delete polys more then needed and if you do you should make sure its doesnt effect rest of the structure which happend to you durning unwrapping. And by the way guys dont be afraid of having alot polys what hes doing here is preparing the model for 3d papervision. And when i sey dont be afraid of having alot polys idont mean you should over do it and turn everything in turbosmooth :P

  • dude i can't click unwrap uvw. when i click it the edit button in the parameters is unclickable. :( plss. help me

  • @markjason2 its because on your edit poly modifier you still have something selected, go back to it make sure none of the polygons, edges, verts are selected then go back to the UVW modifier.

  • This is the first 3Ds Max tutorial i ever watched 3 years ago, I decided to do a diploma in 3D Games design & Development, Now im studying a Bachelors in Computer Games Design at university.

  • @PhotoShopChannel Great! how is it going with your course?

  • @PhotoShopChannel At least you have a good university that teaches that..

the city I live in, the course is basically a media course and its terrible.

  • mine is 12,728 polys -__-

  • i dont know if its only me but this guy has a very relaxing voice,he speaks very very well,i havnet heard anybody speak english so well, cool,,man you made me learn max hahahaahah

  • i have 618 poly gons i dont no y but i do

  • i have a question...how qould you do this if there was an extremely complicated obect, say...a transformer (hypothetical) would you have to go into photoshop and try to texture a million polygons? thanks

    -michael

  • sorry folks. youtube doesnot let the link. but search it as "mikenku texture" and both tutorials are coming at the top.

  • There are 5 tutorials. Texturing begins with the fourth! Here is the fourth tut:

  • Thankssss Very Much !! Like that Part 07:41

  • On those shapes where you have removed edges and left it with 5 vertices on one face, most engines are going to stick that edge straight back in when you import it :/

  • You have an awesome youtube voice. X3

  • Nice series, helped me a lot!!! Thanks. Cheers and peace. ;)

  • Nice job man :D .... haha you have voice like D.J. from Scrubs :DD

  • @Burner992 ...oh dear.

  • LOL around half way through it..and u still havent started anything about TEXTURING -.-

  • how did you create the chimney?

  • @jackass3827 I think he made a box and then shoved it into the roof

  • wow, you help me a lot. Now i now what is purpose of this strange images in older games, that's just a bitmaps prepared for operation like this. COOL! :D

  • jpg for textures? At least for the template you should use lossless compressions, but imho for complete textures too.

  • thanks

  • Finally a really useful tutorial, thanks a lot.

  • I thought it was called normal mapping!

  • for over 6 months I was dying to get used to modelling....finally!!! It feels soooo awesome to be able to model anything you want!! =D haha

  • lol it's called a normal map.

  • hey it didnt show + when i change to unwrap UVW.How to Fix?

  • Every time I click on the bar to open the modifier list, my 3DS MAX trial crashes.

  • your tutorial is really awesome

I am waiting for the next

  • Video Host.. You're making 5 sided polygons, whenever it is imported into any Engine, this can cause many problems. A Useful modifier is Turn To Poly, which turns any 5 or more sided poly's to triangles or 4 sided. In addition to that, you can just use the Connect tool to connect vertices. And VIVIDBOXMEDIA, you hold the CTRL button and click remove to remove both VERTICES and EDGES.

    Cheers, Good Video

  • 5 sides polygons are no problem, atleast not for any engines i've used.

  • @curtyolis 5 sided polygons won't be a problem for most game engines. And I'm only saying most incase I'm wrong about some obscure engine. The only problem with 5 sided polygons is using subdivision, and in certain cases, UVW mapping.

  • just press backspace instead of always clicking on remove :D

    nice video though :)

  • You can't just use backspace on edges, it doesn't remove the verts. Using the Remove button removes both edges and verts that would be left with no edges otherwise. Can't have verts floating around in z-space, it'll break the mesh. :)

  • 3ds max stops working when i click render :(

  • i cant the find the 4th tutorial

  • watch?v=51zBUV8Fjn8

  • It says The URL contained a malformed video ID

  • anyone know ho to make the columns n the porch circular instead of squared?

  • sub division will smooth all the edges out :)

  • I´m so emotioned, I´ll try to make some textures for my own videogame, and also for modding :)

  • what should it be then?

  • thanks for posting the video, its done really well, giving the info, in a really easy way to understand.

  • thanks alot!i learned alot from this videos! :)

  • if u remove the lines.... your initial points remanins. ( u have to remove them to )

  • 91 polys is pushing it????

  • Nice work, I now can learn something

  • I'm happy for have fond this video tutorial.

Alex, you relly go to some interesting parts and make MAX 3d become even more amazing.
