great. nick barker was just getting known when I went off to uni. saw them on a regular basis at uni gigs. at a pub in collingwood 1 night and hounddog flat out asked this girl in the audience, mid-song, if she wanted a f#$*? classic.
hey saw nick barker supporting the doobie brothers last night i thought he was good pretty mellow two man show i dont know if pat simmons of the doobies was takin the piss or what when he gave thanks to NED barker and his twangy guitarist nick was on the other hand full of praise and honoured to be opening for such a legendery band commenting that when others were learning to play smoke on the water he was playing black water
I was 16 when this came out. All the girls I knew I loved him. This was quite a big hit at the time and I think probably the biggest hit that Nick has ever had. This one of the few songs where I prefer the cover to the original. Love ya Nick.
somebody who was once connected with Nick Cave and a very good jazz-punk band called The Wreckery. He then went solo and this is what he came up with... nothing like the Wreckery nor Nick Cave, but what can you do when some people want to be rock stars?
@nzoz1989 I don't think Nick Barker was directly associated with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Hugo Race was in the first Bad Seeds lineup and then formed the Wreckery, which included Barker.
Hugo Race continues to make wonderful music, much of which can be found on YouTube.
@thelatepetercook you have to hope that it's a pisstake with the cowboy boots and all, but if nothing else it proves the indestructibility of the song.
wonder what he's up to now - my sister dated him in the late 80's!!
