Yeah, I just watched one of the season 5 episodes (the one where the 3 teams chase the 1 EF5 for 80 miles through Tuscaloosa)...it sounds to me like they're ALL being switched "on and off", "on and off", "on and off" every 20 seconds or so.
KayKay, I am so sorry for your loss. (((HUGS))) she was a hero for what she did. GOd bless her soul. I pray that her family is doing OK... I can only imagine how traumatic of a loss this was for them.
I'm from yazoo city.. and yes it was a awful day.. my friend was killed in this tornado.. she was at home with her three boys when she received a call from a family member telling her to take cover.. she put her three boys in the hall and covered them with a mattress.. she played in top of it.. she gave up her life for those precious boys... I think anyone can agree they would have done the same thing for their child.. she's a real hero... will forever be missed and never forgotten....
@KayKayCuti3 So many parents did that in Saragosa, TX at a pre-school graduation in May 1987 (I think) as an F4 destroyed the building. Most of the parents died, but all the kids (head-start ceremony) lived for the same reason. SO sorry :( she's ABSOLUTELY a hero!! I was at WXVT in the late 90s as the Chief Meteorologist and I was dying when I was watching this. So worried for the people who were so good to me in MS all the time I was there. I left Chicago at 11PM the night before to chase.
on interestate 55, i just drove down there not long ago, the tree bark from where it crossed the road, is STILL stripped to this day, and the path it tore is still there.. and the trees are bent over still xD
@PmanAndDdawg Friendly people that made me, a Chicago born-and-raised TV meteorologist, feel like I was welcome and loved like I had been born there. I LOVE Mississippi :-)
My best friends house was almost demolished in that tornado, but it only picked up the roof and set it right back where it was attached and it was bout the only lucky house in Yazoo.
errrrr ummmm, it is likely the video, but it seems like there are 3 windshield wipers on the left side of the window alone.... all with different axis points.... anyone? anyone?
@ROFLPS3suckz They would have cooked for them. That's how they are in Mississippi. If those guys helped people, and their equip. worked w/o a danger of gas leaks getting ignited and they had power, I don't have a doubt in my mind they would have :)
ive lived through hurricanes, which are alot of noise and wind and blande featureless darkness, but not as much rain as youd think. but is it possible that thered be rain so heavy that itd almost be like you are drowning in it? ive heard of that in a book somewhere.
@severrnijKGU Rain would have to fill up the entire atmosphere for that to be possible. I've never heard of that happening or if it's even probable. It is always a possibility that extreme rain will bring on flash flooding, in which case it is entirely possible to drown in that.
Though I may not be from Yazoo or even Mississippi, I have decided to make this my home, and I have to say that was the scariest day of my life. Not even being deployed to Iraq could compare to what I went through on that day. I was lucky, the storm passed within a half mile south of where I lived, so all I got were the fringes of it, that plus I live in a solid brick house, which stood up better than some of the houses that were destroyed.
Whoa. Saw this on Storm Chasers ( which is my 2nd favorite show on Discovery ) I'm honestly surprised that more people weren't hurt or killed. It was pretty awe inspiring seeing the crew of the Dominater helping people out. BTW, the Dom is frigging BA.
I am a huge fan of Storm Chasers. This tornado was absolutely amazing but completely devastating. this tornado did last for 3 states. I live in Huntsville, AL and the tornado did hit a town 30 minutes southeast of me. i did try to chase it but it was too dangerous due to the high amount of trees. I highly support Reed, Joel, and everyone else who is chasing for the science to make our warning systems more advanced.
@swissrhb: Wow, what a dirt bag you are. You are totally disgusting. To Reed, Ginger & your families....sorry this was said. Some people are just too ignorant to waste one single thought on.
I totally respect your science but when it comes to woman you got A LOT to learn Dude. This chick Ginger is totally lame. You really blew it with Jene Young and now it's too late because she's engaged. Jene was SO MUCH hotter than Ginger, there is really no comparison. Why don't you try and get an Asian wife like Dr. Wurman did. They'll marry anyone even weather geeks like you. Also, there is NO WAY you should have pushed Chirs out of the Dominator for Ginger. That wasn't cool.

I saw the Yazoo city episode of Storm Chasers today on Disc channel. Wow , the destruction was immense. It was great to see Reed and the guys helping those people. This crew goes above and beyond from what I can see. The sheer look of terror on that old lady's face in the demolished house , and the guy laying in the rubble with the spinal injury said it all. This is real ! Not just entertainment. These guys were walking through rubble in flipflops crossing over wet live powerlines to get to

@MrJjames44 That guy Sean Casey bothers me, All he does is complain and whine about the TVN crew. He should just simply follow the Dominator if he wants to see tornados. I agree this Yazoo city episode was moving. Class act guys .
@DTRAVELZ It seems that Sean Casey was acting like a douchebag whenever he hears that Reed gets a tornado. I kinda like that near the end of the episode, he started to look past it and worry about Reed's safety.
@DTRAVELZ well in the second season he didn't mind reed he actually went on a chase with him and left josh by himself. Its just when reed made the dominator sean got pretty pissed because he think reed stole his idea. Even reed said he could see why sean would be mad at him. But i do agree sean needs to get over himself and
@jpothemaster64 Who cares if Reed built a vehicle that resembles others tthat chase storms. Isn't that what they are supposed to be doing chasing storms? It only makes sense that they build vehicles like this. Should we ridicule Mercedes Benz for stealing the idea that Ford had years before hand? Should we demonize Playstation for stealing the idea that Atari had? If anything these guys should all team up.The goal is to catch tornadoes.I think Reed gets it. Sean is just jealous of his success
@DTRAVELZ yeah i agree with you reed had all the right to make the dominator. i just think sean is always pissy because he is under pressure making that imax movie coming out in 2011
@jpothemaster64 Yup , and I wish him all the luck in making that film cus that is definintly a movie I would go see. he should just follow Reed , and he'd have atleast 5 sequels already lol.
@jpothemaster64 Jeez ! I saw the Arkansas episode. I seriously think I saw more tornadoes this year than Sean did and I live in NYC and never even had a chance to chase. He really needs to just keep his head in that camera bubble dome with his finger on the record button and let his team do all the chasing. End of story.
This was a pretty rare event. I was actually able to see the debris cloud on doppler. terrible. god bless all those who lost their homes, friends and family members.
I almost got killed by this tornado as I storm chased with a fellow MET. Was chasing it up I-55 and intercepted it as it crossed the highway west of Durant. Several cars got flipped... luckily we escaped on a state park road to the east. Trees fell on our road as we drove towards Durant on 51 and then got stuck in the mud.... CRAZY CHASE!!
on a preview for this episode i thought i saw a dead guy lying on the ground and one of the storm chasers crying. is this what happens in the episode?
@jackstrawfrmwchta You need to have a little respect! PEOPLE DIED FROM THIS TORNADO! This could have been YOU, your MOTHER, FATHER, WIFE, HUSBAND or YOUR CHILD!
@Jakotsu20 I don't need to worry, because I'm the baddest son of a bitch on the planet. I once bull rushed a F5 tornado, and punched it so hard, it started spinning the other direction. True story.
@23fagg How bout the name, "Yazoo". Right up the old yazoo. The ex wife really screwed me right up the yazoo. Watch those insurance companies, they'll give it to you up the yazoo. Am i the only one that thinks that is the funniest name ever for a city. Yazoo? Who in the hell named that town?
@jackstrawfrmwchta Yazoo City is my hometown..There are lot of people ignorant to the history behind the name "YAZOO"..It is named after an indian tribe..and the rest of Mississippi Counties are also named after Indian Tribes...Before making a statement like something sounds funny..You may need to make yourself look a little bit smarter by doing your research, before posting comments like this..UHH...What was that?,,OK.
@81sexc I wouldn't admit to being from Mississippi. Two facts. One: People from Mississippi, have on average, the highest rate of obesity in the nation. Two: People from Mississippi, have on average, the lowest iq's in the nation. Conclusion: People from Mississippi are fat and dumb. Hey, do you know why tornadoes always hit southern trailer courts?.... It's just God taking out the trash!
so natural disasters are just a fact of life and we like every other living creature has to deal with it as we do not controll the earth nature does kind of like a lion may hunt a human because we are not the very top apex predator as we can be hunted and killed easily also natural disasters help keep populations down
well thats a fact of life they will always be some form of a destrutive tornado even though they are ones that are majestically lovely im not saying tornadoes are a bad or good thing because they is something in them that is needed kind of like how hurricanes are needed as they bring very important preciptation to very too dry areas ropical cyclones also help maintain the global heat balance by moving warm, moist tropical air to the middle latitudes and polar regions
Holy Shit! That thing was HUGE! I can't even fucking imagine living somewhere that could possibly have that thing go over my house! I would be absolutely fucking terrified...
Trust me, if you live in areas with Tornados you are glued to the weather when storms erupt. With pop up thunderstorms there is little warning, we got hit by a EF1 tornado that appeared nearly instantly. Tornado season is a nail biter.. thankfully we have a storm shelter
I had a gig the day this twister went through. It knocked out the power at the venue so the gig was canceled. Also, I had some friends in Yazoo city when this happened. I thank God that they weren't hurt when this monster hit.
In the southeastern United States, tornadoes are often rain-wrapped, like this one, as oppossed to the plains, where they form on the southwestern edge rain-free part of the storm.
If you're going down I-55 to Jackson, there's a huge swath of trees near Holmes County State Park that is just leveled. It's such a distinct line too. You can tell right where it crossed I-55.
@datgoon1985 no it wasnt... close was it was literally 3 quarters of a mile from you lol. i live in vicksburg i went down the road and got wrapped up in in-flow but i saw this beast
great video guys. haven't been to yazoo yet to see the damage but i've seen pictures. must've been a monster. i'm from starkville so i was lucky enough to miss the majority of the nasty stuff, although it still had enough steam on it to uproot some trees and toss around a mobile home on 389.
Omg. That tornado was scary. It was so close to getting to where I live. There were many tornados that day, but lucky for me, none came to close to me. I pray for the ones that those tornadoes did hit.
149 mile track and THREE WHOPPING HOURS on the ground for one single tornado. This pretty much smashed the "Tri State Tornado must be a family of tornadoes since supercell morphology precludes single tornadoes from lasting so long" argument. The Tri State tornado was on the ground for 3.5 hours.
I saw the velocity signatures and if it had hit a town earlier in its life...EF5 for sure.
@mongoose704 149 mile continuous damage path was confirmed by NWS. 4th longest in history according to the reports within a week of the tornado. The Tri-State tornado is still first I believe and according to the official record had continuous damage. Since there would a lack of verifiable evidence , I don't think thery will ever classify the Tri-State tornado as multiple tornadoes.
This tornado will likely silence those that were claiming that tornadoes cannot stay on the ground for more than an hour because supercell morphology precludes it. It was on the ground for 3 hours. To compare the tri-state tornado was on the ground for 3.5 hours. Thank goodness for modern warning systems because so many more would have died if not for them.
The tri-state one was very similar to this, it was a huge wedge tornado surrounded by clouds and rain, people thought its just a low hanging cloud until it slapped their shit.
@mongoose704 I doubt it will silence them. It will just cause them to change up their arguments. I don't know why meteorologists became so arrogant in the last decade or so. I do know when I was growing up, one thing all meteorologists understood was that tornadoes were unpredictable, and to think that you knew everything a tornado was capable of was either stupidity or ignorance. Tornadoes are creatures that know no limits to their own power and will do what they want to when they want to.
@mongoose704 u must be retarded because the tri-state tornado lasted 1-2 hours and went through all 3 within an hour and stayed at the last state for the last hour or so
@D4rkSid31 Being called a retard by you? OMFG is that just precious! Let's calculate: If the tornado was on the ground for 219 miles and only ONE HOUR as you claim then its average speed on the ground was 219MPH which is impossible on the planet Earth.
Let's do some math you silly ape. Tornado drops at 1:01 pm and finally lifts at 4:30pm SW of Petersburg Indiana. Calculate the time the tornado spent on the ground, retard? Do you still think it's one hour? Two hours? Fucking dunce.
Hello Reed, Chris, and Joel. Thanks for posting this video and I'm glad all of you are ok despite that intense tornado. Awesome footage Dominator !!..
shinydialga123 - 10 people died in this storm. Very tragic story of a mother who sacrificed herself by covering her children with her own body. Lots of damage in the Yazoo City area (the last part of the video where the restaurant was). We are a strong community and its amazing to see the response from all the volunteers that come out to help.

True story.

Conclusion: People from Mississippi are fat and dumb. so natural disasters are just a fact of life and we like every other living creature has to deal with it as we do not controll the earth nature does kind of like a lion may hunt a human because we are not the very top apex predator as we can be hunted and killed easily also natural disasters help keep populations down
irelandcool1 1 year ago
well thats a fact of life they will always be some form of a destrutive tornado even though they are ones that are majestically lovely im not saying tornadoes are a bad or good thing because they is something in them that is needed kind of like how hurricanes are needed as they bring very important preciptation to very too dry areas ropical cyclones also help maintain the global heat balance by moving warm, moist tropical air to the middle latitudes and polar regions

it looks allot like the tornado from may 3rd oklahoma tornado outbreak

@claire42069

You can tell right where it crossed I-55.

great video guys. haven't been to yazoo yet to see the damage but i've seen pictures. must've been a monster. i'm from starkville so i was lucky enough to miss the majority of the nasty stuff, although it still had enough steam on it to uproot some trees and toss around a mobile home on 389.

I saw the velocity signatures and if it had hit a town earlier in its life...EF5 for sure.
mongoose704 1 year ago 3
@mongoose704 149 mile continuous damage path was confirmed by NWS. 4th longest in history according to the reports within a week of the tornado. The Tri-State tornado is still first I believe and according to the official record had continuous damage. Since there would a lack of verifiable evidence , I don't think thery will ever classify the Tri-State tornado as multiple tornadoes.
GOODY61 1 year ago
@GOODY61
This tornado will likely silence those that were claiming that tornadoes cannot stay on the ground for more than an hour because supercell morphology precludes it. It was on the ground for 3 hours. To compare the tri-state tornado was on the ground for 3.5 hours. Thank goodness for modern warning systems because so many more would have died if not for them.
mongoose704 1 year ago 13
@mongoose704
The tri-state one was very similar to this, it was a huge wedge tornado surrounded by clouds and rain, people thought its just a low hanging cloud until it slapped their shit.
Szgerle 1 year ago
@mongoose704 I agree, and I have to admit
I was a little skeptical about the reports of a
100+ mile path length. The March 3, 1966 F5
in Jackson had a long path length I believe, but
this was much longer. February 21, 1971 also..
the "Inverness Tornado" started in LA like this
one and had one VERY long path length..
ChristopherSaindon 1 year ago
@mongoose704 I doubt it will silence them. It will just cause them to change up their arguments. I don't know why meteorologists became so arrogant in the last decade or so. I do know when I was growing up, one thing all meteorologists understood was that tornadoes were unpredictable, and to think that you knew everything a tornado was capable of was either stupidity or ignorance. Tornadoes are creatures that know no limits to their own power and will do what they want to when they want to.
CombatSportFan 1 year ago
@mongoose704 u must be retarded because the tri-state tornado lasted 1-2 hours and went through all 3 within an hour and stayed at the last state for the last hour or so
D4rkSid31 1 year ago
@D4rkSid31 Being called a retard by you? OMFG is that just precious! Let's calculate: If the tornado was on the ground for 219 miles and only ONE HOUR as you claim then its average speed on the ground was 219MPH which is impossible on the planet Earth.
Let's do some math you silly ape. Tornado drops at 1:01 pm and finally lifts at 4:30pm SW of Petersburg Indiana. Calculate the time the tornado spent on the ground, retard? Do you still think it's one hour? Two hours? Fucking dunce.

shinydialga123 - 10 people died in this storm. Very tragic story of a mother who sacrificed herself by covering her children with her own body. Lots of damage in the Yazoo City area (the last part of the video where the restaurant was). We are a strong community and its amazing to see the response from all the volunteers that come out to help.

If there are no videos of the 2.5 mile wide tornado on YouTube, then say so.
If you know of a video of this tornado, then point me at it.
If the video is only available on DVD, then tell me which one, and I will buy it.
In other words, help me find the VIDEO(s)!!!!
