  • J'adore ce film, quel délice and so british ! Un régal !

  • The re-make is fucking shit. This is a great british masterpiece.

I can think of 100 reasons why this is better and another 100 more why the american one is shit. The americans should stick to eating burgers and shooting people and let the experts handle the comedy and film industry

  • Yes the Coen brothers did a remake. I like them usually but hated that film. There's also an up and coming Westend Production starting this Autumn with Peter Capaldi and adapted by Graham Linehan.

  • sorry its "Coen".

  • is this the movie the Cohen brothers remade? or was the Cohen film not a remake>?

  • This sinister smile on Alec Guinness..

  • The american voice over is sooooo ANNOYING.

  • One of the funnies 50's films I have seen. I have just finished watchi ng it on an old VHS, theirs nothing like racking through doesens of old tapes to see what tresures you have to offer.

  • sorry to have to point this out, but movie is american, film is britsih. No idea why i know that

  • Does anyone else think that Herbert Lom is attractive in this film? hmm :)

  • This is the first time I've ever heard of Alec Guinnes and he already seems like a one of a kind actor, his facial expressions are flawless!

  • @alkalinecuban He's also in Star Wars lol.

  • oh, what a great movie! just watched it. i love Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom!

  • One of the best comedy films ever, with Mrs Lopsided.

My favourite quote comes from this film

    "OK So I made a mistake !!

  • I often wondered where the old lady's house was. MrsWilberforce’s house was a set that was specially built for the film, above the tunnel mouth at the western end of Frederica Street, off Caledonian Road.

  • lol old trailers are funny and kinda weird how they market themselves

  • For those who enjoy Brit.&American comedy alike, I can recommend another cult film "It's a mad mad mad world", screenplay also by William Rose (&wife), featuring a celebrity cast, and about chasing money too.. Laughter galore!

  • @2006jn Indeed, it's a great movie.

  • Alec Guinness looks so creepy without facial hair!

  • This movie is fantastic...

  • Watched this this morning! Purely epic film! Alec Guinness' mad Professor is epic! Then again so is the whole film. Personally, i can't find anything wrong with it. A true Ealing Classic :D x

    Thanks for uploading

  • Mad Professor. Love it! Marcus is my "darling".

    Great comment!!! :)

  • Q gran película! De las películas clásicas más divertidas que he visto! jajajaja

  • I really liked the remake. Tom Hanks was really good.

  • I love Alec Guinness in this, so weird that the whole thing becomes believable!

  • Professor Marcus is wonderful. :)

  • Kindhearts and Coronets was also good.

  • The remake is such a wasted opportunity and I can't understand why Hanks and Coen Bros should have made it.

  • @sandletters39 the new version is a modern make on the story. i liked it a lot.

  • @CT2507 depends how clear people view them.

  • A classic!

  • Both versions are great and Tom definitely didn't act bad in the new version.

  • The original is way way better than the re-make. As regards to comedies either side of the great pond...I'm a Brit and the British have made some great comdies but if I had to pick three of which I believe are the best, Sgt Bilko would be one of them. Fawlty Towers also. The 3rd would be too hard to choose and stay with that choice so won't try to list it here and now.

  • What new version?

  • New Version with Tom Hanks =)

  • Oh I don't know it! To me the 1955 version is a Master piece.

  • american

  • Obi Wan lives on.

  • what an absolute fucking gem of a movie.

it makes my balls cringe every time when OneRound spills the lolly all over the street.

  • My balls cringe (in a good way) whenever I see the Professor!

  • I'm Marcus's bitch.

  • I think that as of 2009 Herbert Lom is the only cast member still alive.

  • great movie

but why did they have to cast tom hanks

    fuck that cunt cant act

  • I like this film.

Haha, first they started the try to kill the old lady but ended up killing each other.

  • It saddens me that they made a remake of this film... If it doesn't have Alec Guinness, or, at least Peter Sellers, in it, it's not worthy of being watched!!

Man I love this film too much. XD

  • True...but who betetr than the coens to pull it off, at least it wasnt some unknowns...

  • serious, give em credit.

    it WAS hilarious.

  • I was just thinking that. It ought to be a crime to do that.

  • well the coen brothers, who better it as ok because they work best with what they write like big lebowski barton fink miller's crossing burn after reading... + others

  • Classic Ealing film. What a cast headed by the brilliant Alec Guinness. Sellers, Lom, Green and Hardwicke are perfect as the gang.

Katie Johnson gives a wonderfully befuddled performance, included great cameos by Jack Warner and Frankie Howerd.

    A true movie classic.

  • one of the greatest films ever the remake was shit

  • My favourite film, it's one of the best movies I think!^^

Alec Guinness is great there! :D

    ~ A.G. Fan XXX

  • Better than the remake in every possible way.

  • Seriously i have to write a review of this and wish i could watch it on here.

  • ich liebe diesen Film~I love this film

But I can a little bit Englisch

    darum schreibe ich in Deutsch!

  • can somebody please post this video on youtube

  • Hi josjoll thank you very much for that I hate it when a tune is going around in your head and u can't remember what it's called. lol

  • Could somebody please tell me the name of the classical tune being played and put me out of my misery it has annoyed me for days trying to think of it.

  • Minuet Opus 11, No. 5

There are many different versions but I hope the information helps.

  • Herbert Lom is so cool in this movie. Blooddy brilliant from start to finish.

  • I agree. Personally prefer Lom in this to his performance in the Pink Panther.

  • You should see him play Professor Petrie (The Phantom) in Phantom of the Opera, he is oscar worthy. He is darned funny in Pink Panther, but he is just so darned cool in "Ladykillers", real Tommy Udo style.

  • just watched it for the forth time quite possibly the funniest movie ever with the possible exception of duck soup or a fish caled wanda..oh and life of brian

  • @webothlovesoup Herbert Lom is brilliant, in ANYTHING he does.

He should be knighted. Czech or not, he's lived here most of his wonderful life

  • Awesome, Excelent movie!

  • My fav film EVER! British comedy is awesome btw Herbert Lom is terrifying in this lol! My fav bit apart from the whole film lol is when she stands on the end of his scarf when they are tryin 2 leave its just his facial expression lol

  • love this film

  • I don't think the full film is available on youtube but it is usually relatively cheap to buy on DVD.

  • hi thanks for putting this video on, it is one of my favorite films.

Is the full film on you tube? please answer thanks. :D

  • Just possibly the greatest British film ever and my personal fave.Often seen as a quintessentially Brithish film because of its dark humour, the screen play was by an American - William Rose.

My fave part of the film, were Mrs W has the gang singing along with her old lady friends and Peter Sellers enters the house, a cup of tea is handed to him. Watch the faces of everyone else in the room, its acting at its best without a word being said.

  • blimey the trailer gave alot away!..

The bit i like most is when mrs wilberforce goes into the shop to ask "has there been anyone asking about the room?"..and you only see his back, she puts up her unbreller when he turns around so his face is covered!

  • the remake sucks

  • Anyone know why they bother?

    . . . . and why didn't they stick to it being a comedy?

  • I saw this the first time yesterday and i must say that this is proof that americans cant make comedy :(

  • Marx Brothers? Woody Allen? Buster Keaton? Phil Silvers? Abbott & Costello?

There's loads of great American comedy. Don't judge a whole nation's sense of humor based on a few rotten apples. British humor isn't all perfect either (Russell Brand, anyone?)

  • I agree with TulseLuper. In recent years American comedy has improved and is probably cleverer and funnier than what we in the UK have had to offer. If the UK get's a half decent comedy everyone tends to rave about it none stop, over rate it and then it loses it's original charm. I found this with The Office, Phoenix Nights and even Little Britain.

  • oops...I forgot about woody allen :( I hate the recent stuff altogether though plus I dont know half those names. but like I said I like woody allens quirky directing styles. Not sure about the casting list in his new movie though.

  • No offense but it doesn't sound like you follow American comedy that closely. Yes, there's a lot of crap out, but I can also name a lot of very clever, very funny films and TV shows: Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and even Judd Apatow's films Knocked Up and Superbad. Definitely check out the other names I mentioned, though. They're all comedy heavyweights and they've all influenced a lot of fine UK comedians like John Cleese.

  • I love The Office personally but the only other recent British show that I love is The Thick of It. There are a couple of decent ones like Saxondale and Extras but on the whole you're right.

  • no offence taken! :) Im glad someone pointed out a flaw in what I said! I never really found the office that funny. The one thing I do think that the americans lack in their comedy is subtelty. Ladykillers as an example, there is a scene in this where a horse starts eating a market stalls fresh produce and the joke builds up to hillarity.

  • The americans don't go for gradual build up but most of the time bombard you with jokes. I think they would do much better if they added that ingredient to the comedy they make.

  • As bmgm3 pointed out and a fact I forgot, that the screenplay was written by an American, William Rose.

  • I never realised that :? that makes that point invalid then but why does noone else in america apply it to their comedy? I mean not even the mighty woody allen does.

  • The director had originally hired another actress to play the part of the old lady, thinking that Katie Johnson was too old. The preferred actress actually died before filming started, so they re-hired Johnson. She won a BAFTA (British version of an Oscar) for her acting, and died two years later.

  • I havent seen the old film but it seems quite different from the remake

  • Very different the death scenes have much better comedic timing although Lump's shooting himself is much better than in the original.

  • Believe me, the old one is BETTER than the shitty US remake...

  • uve not!! i suggest u watch the original is way better and its so much funnier

  • The remake could've been great. It is the Coen Brothers after all. But they dumbed it down so much!
