  • That Genesis Super Mario Bros music is awesome!

  • "This page contains insecure content" what?

  • or you just put homebrew on your wii and you got all nintendo, sega, atari etc emulators on it for free >.>

  • it's not surprising that it doesn't work with the at games handheld as that does not have any megadrive\genesis hardware in it, it only uses emulation.

  • these everdrive carts are extremely expensive! Ok what they do is really cool but I can't find any reason for paying 120$ to what they do! 50$ should be more than enough.

  • @sybnios its cost 50 to make one

  • @CrAzY3AGL3 em i find that kind of difficult in the year 2012. its not THAT technnologically advanceed. haha. ok its not a mass production cart but still 120 $ is simply ridiculous.

  • That is way awesome! Wish I had one of those.

  • The Everdrive won't work with clone systems because they use emulation to run the games. The Everdrive was created for original and original style hardware. It needs the hardware to run. Clone systems don't have this hardware.

  • The EverDrive for the MD/Genesis is brilliant,Hopefully there will be one for the TurboGrafix16?

    Andy

  • @back2skooldaze just mod ur wii to have that and a whole bunch more systems. If you dont got a wii they sell used at like 70-90 bucks now.

  • The smb music is a lot more... genesis-e!

  • i wish these were around 50 bucks would make it so much more worth it i would own n64,snes,and sega versions.

  • Can it run Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy? lol

  • Something I always wonder about playing rom games, is if you can get the exact same experience every time. Like if I play a sms gun game with a genesis gun, will it work?

  • @SANxJONERO For the most part rom gameplay is the same as playing on the original system. I can't really tell a difference between most games at all. The only difference is the controller really. I use a wireless PS2 style controller for all my games. It's a great styled controller for most everything except for maybe Wii and a little strange for N64 games, but really good for everything else.

Lightgun games though are hit and miss depending on the type of lightgun you own, many are the same.

  • @janX9 Thanks, guess I'll just try stuf out & see what works best.

  • Just an update Gamster81 the Everdrive MD works well with my Retron3. I have only found a few clone games that didn't work.

  • @sycyourtube Kool & looks like you can plug the nes zapper right into that system too.

  • What's the name of the site where I can convert smd to bin?

  • 11:08 the game gear even had a master system addon so you could literally play master system games

  • Can it play region 2 sega cd games?

  • @TheEverythingMan62 That would actually require a modified CD-rom, because the Sega Mega CD games are on a different medium. The Mega Drive, 32x and Master System are all on cartridges, thus can be converted to ROMS, but Sega CD would need ISOs, so therefore, you need a CD to run them. Remember how he said you need 32X to run the 32x games? It would be the same principle for Sega Mega CD. You need the hardware to run them, and the right medium too. It would also need to be huge in memory.

  • @Ketorulz

From what iv hered the mega CD had no copy protection on it so you could just burn games and play them without the need for any external tools or mods

  • @OhNoNotMyPenis You mean a regular CD player? Because you still need an emulation program or equivalent hardware to run them. If you put them in a CD player, only the music will come out of the CDs. Is this what you meant? I wasn't talking about being region free, it was about needing tools to play the CDs as games, not as regular CDs.

  • @Ketorulz

No i ment the Sega CD/Mega CD hardware had no protection on it so there is no need for a device to play ISO's on it, just burn them to a cd and they work, well most of the games did.

  • @OhNoNotMyPenis Oh you don't have to mod the hardware! Cool! That's awesome!

  • Yay! Ukraine! ^_^

  • will it play the sonic hacks from sonic retro? like sonic 3 the challengers?

  • How do you play OnLive on an Ipad? lol conncect controller?

  • Try to play sonic megamix version 3.0 on there.

  • Doesn't stoneagegamer sell this carts anymore?

  • @Bylga Came out like a month ago, i think

  • @sdvc3 Nvm sorry

  • @sdvc3 ok thank you.

  • What about .GEN? that's what a lot of my roms are labeled.

  • You got a Killer collection keep it going

  • How do you get and download games for the Everdrive thanks :-)

  • If I lived in Phoenix, me and Gamerster81 would so be kickin it, knocking back beers, and playing some retro games.

  • I mainly rip most of my Nes collection because i have had 5 Nes systems and none of them currently work except my original which i refuse to go digging in the back of the garage to find so its emulation for some old school satisfaction!

  • can this work on a clone system?

  • @Gamester81

Do you know if there are plans for an everdrive (or an equivelant) for the Atari 2600?

  • 4:04 sorry I can't look at music man...

  • Like the golden tee machine in the background! I dislocated a finger on one of those going for a longest drive! LOL

  • Nice Genesis collection ;). I'd love to get a X'Eye, too bad those are very rare and expensive (US$1000+) here.

  • Gamester81 you made me realize that theres way more I need to learn about retro gaming, but that's a good thing.

  • everyone! if you want roms go to coolroms, it's the best rom site and has many games.

  • Well even if you own the original games, legally you still don't reserve the right download roms for any game unless you own the rights to the game

  • Will this work on the uk pal version (Mega drive) ?

  • I'm not seeing any difference between this and the Wii Virtual Console emulation of these games. Am I missing something?

  • I love it when he pauses the games. First at 4:40 we've got Kung Fu Mario, then at 6:30 Sonic's doing the moonwalk.

  • Comment removed

  • Well the main good thing about it is that it can support hacked games such as Sonic 1 Megamix and others, but even though I do not own a Genesis and I may never get it,it is nice to have them all in one cart, atleast I wouldn't have to change games!

  • what about sega cd and game gear games?

  • can i play game gear games

  • I sent you a PM about a Matrix-like tech demo I made with the program BasiEgaXorz (a BASIC compiler for megadrive ROM images); which I want to see a video review (and shoutout to me) of soon.

  • I like holding the games in my hand and putting them in the slot...emulation is not the same to me as playing them on the tv with it's own cart.

  • @sjj500 Its not emulation though. The games are running off the actual Megadrive/Genesis hardware, He did say that in the video.

  • @MrScrompy I wasn't disputing whether it was emulation on the cart. I was referring to the comparison of having a rom vs a cart. A lot of people would download roms they don't own and play them. I trial games on rom and then buy the cart. I was talking about the politics of the whole rom vs cart debate.

  • Thanks for the great review!

I agree that playing ROMs, even on on the original hardware like with the Powerpak or this Everdrive doesn't affect the joy of finding a game you love in the wild. If anything it makes me less likely to buy a loose cart and makes me look for complete boxed games. But through playing these ROMs I often discover a game I missed and really love that I end up buying later. Don't have an Everdrive yet but I really want to get one!

  • i like the fact that this is avalible to us becouse it lets us play roms of hacked games and foreign games, you can trow them all in there but as a collector you also have the choice to get the ones you realy want and like, therefore i think this is a great product good review, ill consider getting one once i pile up the cash lol

  • That's MK2? it looks like MK1

  • I love emulation, I can play pokemon emerald on my psp like a boss.

  • @caseygtr i play tecmo bowl and a bunch of other old school games

  • @ladawg81 Awesome, emulation is a great way to relive those classics from long lost consoles.

  • @caseygtr not lost. my friend plays games that his dad used to play. in fact, people who like to play by themselves usually play old school games because todays games are focused more on online multiplayer.

  • @ladawg81 Many of the best old school games were still best in 2 player.

  • can it play games you find on emuparadise?

  • @garganrose use a website called the old computer . com they have all the roms for all systems in zip files.

  • Do you need an actual Sega Master System to play this on or do you need a Genesis with the Power Base Converter?

  • About 10 years ago there was actually a floppy disk drive for the SFC/SNES that did essentially the same thing. I nearly bought one but it was $250, and unless it has some crazy collector value now, I am glad I didn't!

  • You have been spending your life collecting video games........... xLIFE WELL SPENT! please continue your vids. Novice collector. Rifleman1002

  • I can't seem to find this actual product on Stone Age Gamer's site John. Has it already been discontinued? I'd love to pick this up. I sure would make finding all the rare Genesis games much easier. LOL. Any ideas?

  • that is, EPIC! but expensive T_T

  • Wow!! This thing is the shit!! I think may be getting one of these when I get my tax return. It's between one of these and a bluray player. But I don't need the bluray player until the fall because that's when all six Star Wars movies are supposed to come out on bluray. So I could maybe splurge on this and just save up for the bluray player over the summer...BTW, the guy who said Plug N Play's are better than this can go eat his head.

  • everdrive sux plug n play tv games are better

  • Fucking hell I hate that "Orabrush" wanker...

  • Another awesome vid gamester. Can you tell me, have you tried using this with your pioneer laseractive?

  • this dude scored big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing stuff. . .

  • This is fucking awesome!!!

  • Support has been added for the Genesis model 3, you need OS v16(+) and Firmware v11(+).

  • I need to get one of these. I have the NES and SNES PowerPaks

    Great video.

  • hey Gamester81 have you seen the super nintendo version of this its called the super everdrive

  • Can you play Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the EverDrive?

  • @rh7889

Yeah. You can play all the Sonic & Knuckles combo games.

  • @BenTheBrilliant

How do you get all the ROMs from Sega Master System, Genesis and 32X games?

  • @rh7889

Go To Sonic Roms Dot net. You'll find most of them there.

  • @BenTheBrilliant All I could see were Sonic games. Where are the other games? Where are the Sega Master System games? Where are the 32X games?

  • @rh7889

Oh sorry, I thought you only wanted Sonic games.

  • lol sega 32x games on the nomad that is pretty cool. Oh btw can you put a 32x on a nomad? Also will it work?

  • Does the EverDrive work on the officially licensed Genesis clone made by AT Games?

  • Sold out bro

  • Does this work on the retron 3 console and does it come with all those roms?

  • the best part about owning the original game is to say that you own the original game! you can hold it in your hands and see that it is real! here it is! in my hands! you only live once, copys suck ass!!!

  • It's good but nothing feels better than having the actual game in your hand owning the original cart and tracking down great games to me that is the best and for the price of this I can get some real good Sega games

  • personally i like roms cause im starting to collect retro games and consoles but i want to get games that ill have fun with first so roms let me test games out

  • Look at the music?

  • they have a super everdrive for snes

  • there are soo many things like this haha like the r4 for the ds witch is like almost the exact same thing the only thing is i was wondering if this was illegal unless u have every game in the sega genisis library

  • Comment removed

  • does it work on the x'eye?

  • my fave rom site is coolroms.com check it for yur roms

  • did you ever try running a 32x game on the nomad with the everdrive

  • @funnyxthings You need a 32X add-on to play 32X games. The EverDrive is not an emulator.

  • Gamester you forgot to check the laseractive w/ md/genesis pac will the everdrive work with that? I have a similar product but the "ED" looks more functional.

  • where do you go to get all the older game consoles and handhelds?

  • I love emulators. they're awesome. I don't have space for much in my house to have retro games so i emulate them. I think they're fantastic

  • Wow, thats a real impressive peace of hardware :-D

  • Can you use a Game Genie with it?

  • @kgamer83

I would also like to know if a game genie can be used with it. Or if it has a built in code entry system. Yeah, I know, cheater cheater pumpkin eater.

  • soo pay $100 to play games on the genesis haha

  • @fernando32

I paid way more for some of the original games back in the day. If you grew up with the system, why not?

In 20 years you'll probably ask yourself "I really paid 60-70 USD for a single PS3 game back then?! wtf?"

This is clearly a piece of hardware for us retro-enthusiasts. :)

  • Thanks John For the Review

Im Kind of intrested of Buyin one Of these after this review

    great job

  • hey, can we use zipped games in rar or zip ? Or do we have to put them as smd or bin on the card ?

  • SMS had great 3D glasses. They aren't even that much different from the glasses they sell for 3D tvs.

  • hey gamester is there a snes everdrive since i like snes better than genesis.

  • @futuregamer24 Yes coming out the end of November/

  • DUDE U HAVE BADASS COLLECTION HAVE U DONE A REVIEW ON THE COMMODORE 64

  • hey wasnt dukenukem 3d released for the n64 i think it was because i saw a complete boxed version on a shelf for 10 dollars

  • @VideoGameWorkshop - Yes, it was ported to N64 as Duke Nukem 64. It also had ports to PS1 (Total Meltdown), Saturn, Genesis & Game.com

  • will this work in the uk on a pal one

  • @homer4556 Yes of course.

  • A very cool gadget but one I will stay away from because I'd be afraid it might deter me from buying genesis carts once I owned it. I prefer to actually have the cart in hand, knowing I'm playing a physical piece of history instead of some meaningless, dumped rom.

I'm kinda surprised you don't have the Genesis Duke Nukem game with all the rare stuff you track down. I was fortunate to get a copy from Brazil with one of my trades years ago. =)

Great video as always John. Grats on the pickup!

  • hey John. do you know if there's a similar device for the SNES. thanks a lot!

  • Dude I think you can just change the extension on the SMD games to BIN by renaming them and it should work. A lot of PC emulators won't work unless you rename them but that's all you usually have to do, so I think it should be the same on this.

  • @numberninteynine Hey cool I'll give this a shot. Thanks for the advice.

  • @Gamester81 Your file sizes appear to show that they are BIN format anyway (filename itself means nothing). So, as numberninteynine says, just rename them. BIN files will be 256KB, 512KB, 1024KB, 2048KB etc. SMD files are the same plus 1K, so 257KB, 513KB, 1025KB 2049KB etc, to account for the file header.

  • Great video as always John!

Question: Since I always have my 32X attached, can I pop in the EverDrive in the 32X and play both Genesis and 32X games (since the 32x is backwards compatible)?

  • @snowcon3 Yes you can. =)

  • You need to put the memory card in a PC so you can erase all of the . files, they only show up because you copied them from a mac. I have the same problem with my GP2X.

  • Dont support roms, for the same reason I dont like digital download... it just doesnt compare to finding and enjoying the phisical game copy... just my opinion

But a great video nonetheless Gamester

  • i have a question about this thing. i own a Genesis Model 3,now...if I put 32x roms on the ever drive, will they work on my model 3?

  • @OutRunner1989 Hey good question. First off you need the 32X attachment to play 32X games using this cart, and second the 32X isn't compatible with the model 3 unfortunately.

  • @Gamester81 can you use the everdrive on the model 3

  • @OutRunner1989 Yes with the latest firmware it can now work on the Genesis 3.

  • @Gamester81 Hey will you also be purchasing and reviewing the SNES everdrive

  • Ah nothing beats the original system, no messing around with emulators with problems, no using the keyboard, just the system the game and a controller.

  • I've got all this on my PSP.., why would I wanna pay the 100+ for this gadget...FAIL.

  • @BoldNewTradition

YOU obviously missed the point. This is to play on the real hardware nothing beats the real hardware. better sound and video for you illegal gaming pleasures.

  • @TowfiqTheBrown Your so wrong. With emulators you can make the graphics better then the original hardware and save your game anytime.

  • @RetroGamer3

Ok so not better graphics and sound but it feels more original. It's hard to explain.

  • @BoldNewTradition Great point. Never pay for roms or emulators.

  • @BoldNewTradition People who say "FAIL" need to be taken behind a house and beaten with a hose.

  • @BoldNewTradition I think you answered your own question. FAIL.

  • To everyone complaining about the piracy issues, these kinds of devices are good for a lot more than getting games for free. There are tons of hacks, unreleased games and translation projects that you wouldn't be able to play on real hardware otherwise. Like it or not, these things are essential if you're a real enthusiast.

  • i love all the old school games ive still got my megadrive and this looks like a good buy ive even got a sega mastersystem 2 converter for it ahhh good times

  • Very cool! I had no idea this even existed.

  • Be quick on that nomad, otherwise it will run out of battery! Ahaha :D

  • Oh also there is one for the Atari 2600 as well... Heard about it on Retro Gaming Roundup.

  • NICE! Been looking for something like that for SG cause I got my older bros system from 90-91 but played all/most of Gen games from blockbuster and traded old ones in i.e. sonics and space harriers, golden axe etc but I also prefer owning orig carts not that I am older and can buy orig carts cheap now but Roms are a great way to try em out before you drop 10-20 buck on a 15-20 year old game. :) Good stuff man! LOVE THE PODCAST BTW WHALE SOUND!!!! YAY

  • i watched all ur vids there very informative n i lurned alot i just boult a magnovox odyssy 2 n more to cume lol thanx

  • How about SG-1000 games?

  • @johnfinne The Genesis doesn't have backwards-compatibility with it's video chip, so, no.

  • Well, I guess your stance against emulators is more about playing the real hardware than it is about copy infringement (or didja obtain the ROM images legally?),

  • @SamuraiClinton The ROMs I have are from my own game cartridges that I ripped to my computer myself using the Retrode device which I reviewed awhile ago. The EverDrive to me is more for the convenience of having them all in one easy to get to cart.

  • @Gamester81

But Surely you play some homebrew roms. No?

  • love your vids gamester they are excellent, roms are just a convieniece i think, to have the real hardware is what counts i love my megadrive and roms dont come into it apart from kaillara (the online play thing which is cool)

  • Wasn't Krikzz selling these for $65 last month? I don't see the price posted anymore though.

I agree that the SMS in some cases had better graphics than the NES, but the sound was was pretty horrible in most games. They really should have made the FM synth add-on board a permanent fixture in other countries.

I was lucky enough to own both and liked to compare games on both. I really loved Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Double Dragon, Rampage, Casino Games, etc.

I usually turned the sound down low! :P

  • very cool. i like using the ps3 controller via pc.

  • Damn, thats awesome!!!

  • Wow, I need that. I freakin need one badly

  • blimmey that's a pretty neat idea! and very quick load times. thanks for a great review John!

  • The Sega Master System was way better than the NES! And it's true in Europe was quite popular (I was a Sega Boy).

  • do you know if this will work on a EU megadrive ?

and would the NA games play on it

  • Wow, I didn't know Duke Nuke'em was ported to the Genesis. Looks pretty damn good considering the tech specs. Looks almost as good as Doom SNES without any extra chips.

  • Oh your video answered my question!

Note to self: Finish watching video before posting. ^^

  • OMG I am so sold! I am just wondering if it will work with a pal Mega Drive, and if not would there be any conflict with using a NTSC to pal converter?

  • sega dit said,cd is the optical media of the future ,with the 32x they turned back to cartrides, now sega has a good excuse for it,cuzz the everdrive brings justice not only has it hicher storage capacity then cd,s but also don,t load forever like the sega cd dit.

  • You should review the Vii.

  • Wow, cool video! I see emulation as a way of trying out a new game before I buy it, kind of like renting the game :) Emulators have actually made me buy more old-school games. Oh and btw, the last episode of your podcast allgengamers was awesome! I think it just keeps on getting better and better!

  • is there one for snes? earthbound is hard to come by.
