  • I recently saw the episode of The Venture Brothers where the Monarch says the line "I'll have a fun-time making sunshine on a stick!" and for days I've been thinking "Where have I heard that before? Wasn't that from a commercial in the 70's?"

It's a good thing I live in the future with Google and stuff, or that would have been driving me crazy for years.

  • "whatever turns you on" - - it's just an expression that people (and timer) used at the time. it's not as if use of the phrase marks someone as some kind sexual predator. it's like some white kids nowadays call each other by the n-word, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're racist.

  • i remember in the movie Back to School, the lady English professor said "whatever turns you on" to the classroom after Rodney Dangerfield screamed out "yes! yeeesss! YYYEEESSSSS!!!!"

  • Sunshine on a stick. That must mean whatever they used had to be like 35% alcohol.

  • @TB4000 He sang "sunshine on a stick," not "MOONSHINE on a stick" lol

  • "........lemonade, OR pomegranate juice, OR whatever stimulates you sexually....."

  • OMG I remember this!!! I actually tried to make these things with apple juice, but the toothpicks never wanted to stay in. Almost impossible to twist the tray and pull the darn things out without the toothpick falling out.

But i don't remember him saying : "or whatever turns you on" !!! LOL! Can any of you imagine saying that to your toddlers today?? ...."Hey little Suzie - you can have some goldfish, some animal crackers, OR WHATEVER TURNS YOU ON" !!!

  • when did people stop saying "whatever turns you on"? i'm guessing sometime at the beginning of the reagan/bush 80s.

  • I poured my parents booze into the ice tray.

  • OR WHATEVER TURNS YOU ON

    i love him!

  • i remember this almost word for word...and did make these. ;)

  • so he has a fruit juice fetish?

  • Whatever turns you on?? LOL

  • "I'll be 'having a fun time, eating sunshine, on a stick!'"

  • I just smoked a whole bunch of crack!!

  • I so made these!

  • lol turn on

  • He mentioned pomegranate juice in the 80s? wow, don't remember that!

  • juice doesn't turn me on!

  • I'm From Britain, We Didn't Get This. Thus Meaning No British Person Has Made The "Whatever Turns You On" Joke So Here It Goes:

I'd Fill My Tray With What Turns Me On But Thats Cannibalism.

    HA!

  • Hello Timer old friend! Long time no see!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • I'm surprised they were able to say "Whatever turns you on" back then and not have an load of jokes made about it.

  • Whatever turns me on?

    I'm making rumsicles! :D

  • LOL!!! That's awesome. We should try Coke and Rumsicles! hehehe!

  • I Making Meganfoxicles

    Any Suggestions On How?

  • It never took a few hours.

  • xD "or whatever turns ou on" and geeks are the only kind of people that actually contrubute to society. GEEKS AND EMOS ARE BETTER THAN YOU JOCKS AND PRISSES

  • I'm 42 and watched this in the early 70s. I can still sing all these by heart as well as Schoolhouse Rock. I loved them so much that I would play during the cartoons and come out to watch these between shows.(Unless it was a Sid and Mart Krofft show) I even sang the Preamble in high school instead of reciting it fo a grade. I haven't watched any of these in eons and I still can.

  • I remember those! But we'd call them flavors and we'd crush them up in a cup and have homemade, orange juice icees!

  • This is from my generation of sitting in front of the TV on Saturday mornings.Kids in general were more active even in the early 80's but the irony is we weren't coherent about what we were eating. The word cholesterol meant nothing to us then.

  • who wants to bet that was really beer or old jack instead of juice especially since he was taking advice from an imaginary creature,

  • i get off on pomegranate juice

  • Isn't grenadine is kind of thick for drinking straight.

  • whatdes he emn by what ever trunsyou on

  • @carmesundae sometimes i think it means "whatever excites you/interests you.

  • or whatever turns you on! i used to watch this and even made some snacks lol!

  • Hahaha. Ahh, memories from Saturday morning. This is the only Time for Timer PSA I remember seeing as a kid. Don't think I ever saw the cheese one, but wish I did.

  • All of these are coming back to me now.Thank God for TV geeks such as myself.

  • OMG, I remember making these!!! How hilarious! My son would be like, "What are toothpicks?"

  • You don't need 'em; we never bothered wit them.

Juice cubes are also good for adult beverages like frozen OJ cubes for screwdrivers: they don't water down as quickly. :)

  • I was singing this song to my daughter just last week. She looked at me like I was crazy! Now I can prove that it was real and that I'm not crazy!

This is why I love youtube!

    thanks for posting this!

  • Funny how he makes a passing joke about pomegranate juice like it was so exotic and how now its mainstream

  • Yep, made them and they did slide off. Whoever lol about the pom juice... we did make them with it (lived in LA and always had different healthy things around). My mom always made a mix of juice and yogurt popsicle.

  • I actually made the stuff he sings about as a kid. Very catchy. lol

  • what ever turs you on very bad remark for children

  • the bastard misled us all. you can't use toothpicks. the popsicle slides right off.

  • We left the sticks out. Nowadays, someone would be an idiot and put their eye out and sue.

Also, with so many freezers being sold with automatic ice makers, ice trays are going the way of the rotary phone.

  • pomagranit juice LOL

  • the phrase "Whatever turns you on" would surely have been a little inappropriate for children

  • Back then the phrase wasn't always sexual.

  • I remember being 8 years old or so, and not making any sexual connotations with this commercial. It's not like he said "Whatever gets you sexually aroused". I figured he meant "whatever you think tastes good".

  • hey whatever turns you on!

  • I made these.

  • It doesn't work so well with milk. From one who knows. Hey, he said to use "whatever turns you on!"

  • its like a talking cheese ball lol

  • Presto stacks of snacks!

  • he looks like a walking zygote

  • You know we need to go back to this kinds of commercials. They were so good, better than we have now believe me! Orange juice, or lemonade or whatever turns you on!

  • The only damn problem with this idea was that the toothpicks don't just magically stay straight once you poke them through the cellophane... that was a bloody MESS! Mom didn't care so much for that... thanks Timer! Bastard.

  • I forgot about the slanted toothpick problems!

  • @GenXorcist1976 Ha! yeah, and not to mention that it's probably a bad idea for little kids to be jamming tooth picks into their mouths.

  • @satinstoner Where the hell else would a person be jamming a tooth pick, might I inquire?

  • made some reciently, they were pretty good

  • whatever turns u on!!! haha

  • Yes, it sounds so much dirtier now that i'm older.

  • @margie308 Yeah, then you "penetrate the plastic!"

  • Yes,me and my sis used to make these, but the toothpicks would usually break.

  • Hey, not bad. Better than a bag of Doritos and a Red Bull!

  • Ahhh Timer...saviour to hundreds of us latch key kids growing up in the 70's and 80's. I remember the Wagon Wheel and Quickfast commercials all to well. I beleive that is Frank Welker doing the voice.

  • Yes, these were classic commercials back then. I thought that was Lenny Weinrib doing the voice of "Time for Timer", because he sounds like Moonrock from "The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show."

  • Hehe....you know looking back I realize we were raised with this, Carly Cardinal and Schoolhouse Rock. There's a...I don't know how to put it....not quite disturbing, but...yeah, almost. I'll still take this over Dora the Explorer any day. ugh.

  • Man, I remember these! I'm seriously waxing nostalgic, now.

  • Too many people have their minds in the gutter.

"Or whatever turns you on" was not meant as an innuendo.

  • Pomegranate juice? Timer was ahead of his time!

  • "or whatever turns you on" hahahaha I remember this!

  • Timer ROCKS!!

  • Did he just say "Whatever turns you on"? What the HELL man! Freakin creepy ass Timer... Hope he's doing time with Snagglepuss and the other cartoon pervs..

  • I think he said "whatever juice you want"

  • No, he VERY clearly said, "Whatever turns you on".

  • yep, he said that

  • I thought I'd never see these again. Thanks! I didn't even realize his name was Timer.

  • I remember using Tab and Diet Rite. It tasted like frog milk.

  • But the thing that's going to please her, is you make it in the freezer, and nothing could be easier to fix... now watch as I go through it, because woodpeckers like suet, and in fifteen years you'll be sucking lots of dicks!

  • and 15 yrs later I AM sucking lots.

    go figure.

  • BORING

  • we was in the hood so we was using cheap ass generic 3litter bottle soda labeled "Root Beer", "Cola", "Orange" or the evr popular "Grape". We could never wait the time it took for it to freeze over and we ended up making a mess and getting in trouble when parents got home.

  • LOL "Fill it with whatever turns you on!"

    Probably not a good idea...

  • I remember making these after I saw this on Sat. morning cartoons. I used orange juice and they were good.

  • pomegranate popsicles? bleh!

  • LOL :)

  • I do that all the time ut with soda.

  • i used to do this with root beer. caaaarefully.

  • juce dose NOT turn me on

  • Wait a minute, I remeber seeing something like this on Dexters Laboratory!

  • Oh, yeah. lol

  • Dexters laboratory was on TV from the late 90's til today and this little cartoon short was from the 70's!! The writers from dexters laboratory were most likely kids in the 70's and used this cartoon short for their cartoon. Where do you think they got the idea from.

  • Wow, 70's Saturday Morning rap is so much better than todays top 40 rap.

  • I used to make these with egg cartons!:)

  • "Whatever turns you on" WAS a 70's saying, wasn't it? Great PSA.

  • This was my favorite too. I used to make 'em with fruit punch when I was a kid.

  • This is the best of the bunch that ran in the 70's! Whenever I offer someone a drink, I often end the list with "orange juice - or lemonade - or pomegranate juice - or whatever turns you on!"

  • Orange juice...or lemonade...or pomegranate juice..or vodka...or tequila...or whatever turns ya on

  • LOL hahaha whatever turns me on, like getting horny or something lol

  • yeah lol whatever turns you on

  • Timer's rhymes are dope!

  • yes, yes, yes! I remember these spots like it was yesterday. Great blast from the past! Thanks a lot for posting this

  • remember the metal ice trays with the big lever to crack 'em? LOL I found myself singing along and actually remembered all the words!

  • That's kind of tray we had. We had to go buy another after I ruined it with the juice. Should have sent Timer the bill!

  • I tried making these too, but we had those cruddy icetrays from the 70's that didn't have separate compartments. The cellophane came off and I made a big 'ol mess.

  • "Presto! Stacks of Snacks!"

  • WOW... always remembered it but never thought I'd see it again. What memories!

  • I remember this one. I even tried it. My mother was NOT pleased. In fact she was P.O.ed, complaining that I was waisting juice, and ruining the ice tray. After watching this again, I guess Timer was telling us to ask mom FIRST, before proceeding. I must have missed that part originally.

  • I remember that!!! So funny.

  • Good memories!

  • or pomegranate juice or whatever turns you on

  • It's like finding an old friend you thought you'd never see again.
