FUCK!! what's wrong with the accent?! I know there can be some lectures kinda british but... what the hell was that? :( It makes me feel confuse because it's a lot harder to understand than the classic US lectures...
A little bit of a weird English accent :) it sounds more Kiwi trying to be British to me; but language students wont know the difference. Is TOEFL REALLY this SLOW??
I am studying very hard in order to get 600 points in the TOEFL exam I know I can succed it is in my mind and of course it is a matter of stuying so hard.
I will take the TOEFL exam in the near future. Thanks for this sort of videos.
@stonecoldnwo A set list, or setlist, is a document that lists the songs that a band or musical artist intends to play during a specific concert performance ... (wikipedia)
@qz006 I took my exam. My score was 20. TOEFL ibt listening section is really hard for new people. Some of question are tricks. Time is limit. It has too many challenges.
on my last toefl i got 30 which was surprising score for my first trial. but then.. i took a practise test and i got a lower score of 26 .. how did this happen lol
The ibt TOEFL is scored on 120. That is 30 points for each section: Speaking/listening/reading/writing. I know that the cbt TOEFL is scored differently, but I am unaware of the level of difficulty that it involves, as I have only been teaching to prepare students for the ibt. So I am afraid I can't be of any help here. Sorry.
Yes! It is the TOEFL, but you are right about the British accent. It is not common, but not unheard of either. I've heard that they started to implement this accent a few years ago, and nowadays, it is possible to be faced with such accent in the listening test... But it is quite unlikely. The book I have used for these lectures have exaggerated the amount of British accent lectures, so it is not representative of the truth. Sorry about that.
OMGd, I hope the actual test is as easy as this! I don't have any problems at all reading, writing, understanding etc. english at all, however, I often allow my mind to wander.. not a good quality when you leave your mind on autopilot :P !
Well... My only advice for listening is to practice and practice some more. I am afraid there are no simpler ways to get better than to practice. I understand that you are a little short on time here, so practicing is out of question. I can just advise you to exploit the usual flaws of a multiple choice test. The choices they provide usually follow a pattern. 2 of the choices are similar, but not the same. 1 choice that is totally unrelated and a 4th one that is a kind of trap.
By trap I mean that the choice in question will give you the impression of being a logical one, but the wording is done in such a way that it actually states the opposite of what you are lead to believe. That is why you really have to read the choices extra carefully over and over until you are certain you understand their meaning. So by recognizing the "trap" choice and the "unrelated one" you are left with two choices to select from. that is a 50% chance of success. It's not full proof, but...
It is better than 25%... Now I am NOT suggesting that you gamble your way to a high TOEFL score, but I think that when left with fewer choices to select from, There is a greater chance of finding the right answer. So DON'T just "coin flip" between the two most logical choices. Evaluate those two choices and make a concious decicsion.
I am sorry if I can't be of anymore help, but as I said above, developping your listening skills is difficult and requires practice, so I can only say Good Luck
I am afraid so... This is a sample from an actual TOEFL test, so it is as close to reality as it can get. However, the format sometimes vary. Which means that they might give you more lectures to listen to, but fewer questions to answer for each. Or they might give you fewer lectures, but more questions for each. But most of the time, it is 2 conversations ad 4 lectures, as presented in the videos.

Practice tests are more difficult than the actual TOEFL test. I'm losing 1 mark here and there too, so I'm hoping for a perfect on the actual test.
