  • He thought different...

  • dali :)

  • do the 2 terms have to mutually exclusive?

  • LA LOCURA ES EL SABER VIVIR EN ESTA TIERRA DE DIOS ...

TODOS NOSOTROS SOMOS LOCOS POR EL SOLO HECHO DE AMAR .

  • LA LOCURA ES EL SABER VIVIR EN ESTA TIERRA DE DIOS ...

  • madman? no. genius? no. surrealist? no. proto pop? yes

  • Ridiculous question, he was obviously a genius, you can't be that great if you're just a mediocre

  • “Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.” ~Salvador Dalí (Spanish painter, 1904-1989)

Surrealistically and based on this fine quote, Dalí was both a madman and genius...a true visionary...

  • “Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.” ~Salvador Dalí (Spanish painter, 1904-1989)

Surrealistically based on this fine quote, Dalí was both a madman and genius...a true visionary...

  • What's the difference?

  • He was a genius madman...

    Or a mad genius...

    Something like that anyway

  • when someones intelligence is higher then others around him, people tend to think the respective person is weird and crazy because they're not capable of understanding.maybe dali acted crazy just to confuse us.in reallity i'm sure he was a completely sane dude:P

  • i love his fear of grasshoppers, me thinks a little crazy.

  • I agree, most relevant people are more hated than loved because it is too hard to understand them, they are either too intelligent or they live in their own world. Those who try to hard will be exposed by them and those who accept the brillance and madness of these kinds of artist are the ones that are loved by them in return. As the saying goes: it's lonely at the top :)

  • Dali knew exactly what he was doing - he was a showman, not a madman.

  • Madman + Genius = Dali

    :)

  • 3:44 bizzarre porn lol but his paintigs are really inspiring.god bless Salvador Dalí.

  • IM-PRE-SIO-NAN-TE

  • Most genius are mad

  • So sane he was that

    He could extract

    Geniality out of his madness

And madness out of his geniality.

    A hero of free spirit.

  • @IMTIM543 someone "sane" would not have any madness though.

Not any real madness at least.

  • Watch and see Genius!

  • dali avait compris qu il faut parfois choquer ....pour sortir du lot

  • Genio.

  • well done :)

  • thanks for that. was he the guitarist as well?

  • A little of both!

  • who gives a fuck if he was a madman or a genius, it's irrelevant. the value of his existence, whether he was an artist or not, was his inspiration to be himself. This is the hallmark of all great people known or unknown (mad or genius, or not).

  • why do we artist see the world different? and if you are an artist do you see the world differently?

  • He was genius, but sometimes when you curate an artistic mind you have to think outside of the box which can show itself to people as being eccentric.

  • thank for share this i love dali he was absolute genius

  • there is a very thin line between a madman and a genius. this man was both.

  • @f**kparliament: That's "Galatee aux Spheres", or "Gala of the Atomic Spheres" which you view from 1:33 to 1:36.

Wonderful music, great quotes, greatest artist!

  • He was BOTH! A great man too!

  • what is the name of this song?

  • entre dos aguas ( rumba) paco de lucía

  • muchos gracias

  • maravilloso genio!

  • a mad genius!

  • He knew exactly what he was doing...crazy like a fox!

  • whats the name of the one between 1:33 and 1:36

  • he proofed to be a genius ... nobody can doubt that :)

    By the way :

The difference between a madman and a genius is just the success

  • they can both go hand in hand very easily

  • what a genius

  • what a madman

  • GREATEST GENIUS EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • have no fear of perfection you'll never reach it. I love it

  • muchas gracias!!!!

  • Cómo se llama esa canción? esta hermosa!!!

  • Se llama "Entre dos aguas" del guitarrista flamenco Paco de Lucía.

  • did you ever meet a madman ? They don,t paint like Avida did.

  • well, actually they do. and i have met a plenty of madmen

  • yeah well why don,t we put them to work to then ? So they can become onourable members of the rat race society. there,s nothing wrong wiht sick people being sick. The level of perfection and detail in the paintings of dali are never seen by work of "mad man" That doesn,t mean they cannot make beautifull things.

sorry for the bad English im working on it.

  • Deseo saber la canción.Creo que la tengo, pero quiero saber cual es.

  • He's both...

    a madman and a genius

  • He might have had the best imagination ever, and he was an excellent craftsman to boot. I'm just trying to compete with him in the imagination part alone and that's a huge challenge. Don't have a prayer in being even a tenth of the craftsman he was.

  • @theboombody

Kind of late reply. But, that's the point. You don't compete with someone elses imagination. Everyone has their own imagination. You just have to interpret it to a medium.

  • @etb4u I don't know. I think some have better imaginations than others.

  • very nice vid!! five starz from starman antares!!

  • ...or maybe was Gala more clever than him

  • He is a genius and a very clever man.

  • fact.perfection,youll never reach it!

  • ofcourse hes a fucking genius ... damn

he proofed it didnt he ?

  • he wasn't a madman ... he was a genius who became his art.

  • both.

  • España es diferente, un pais de contrastes y de una belleza pocas veces superada, y sólo un pais como este es capaz de crear genios como Dalí.

  • inspirational.

  • whats the name of the music ? awesome video xD i love dalis artwork !!!

  • entre dos aguas by paco de lucia

  • Haha I'm just looking at all our names well abnormal and definitely "not normal" reaching the true potential should be normal!

  • He's a fucking genius. Not a madman at all.

  • The highest form of art is abstract.

Abstract to the point you dont understand anything anymore.

  • i'd say it's more like, explaining something that is beyond words. abstract is printing out a bunch of unquestioned cognitive thoughts, before we put words to them, and making something you dont' want to understand.

  • All I know is I like his art.

  • There's a thin line between genius and madness. Dali flossed his teeth with it.

  • That may be the best one-line description of Dali I've heard. Paco de Lucia's playing in this video is also brilliant.

  • @CheeseWheel3 couldnt have said it any better!

  • @CheeseWheel3 he actually rinsed his mouth with it and spit it out ata everyone.. its just tooo bad none more could get infected w/it. missing u dear uber uncle

  • @CheeseWheel3 every genius is a madman, no exceptions, or they arent geniuses

  • er war DAS genie des 20.jhdts.und ein genie hat alle freiheit die er möchte!!!!

  • Do we have Salvador Dalis in our time? I think so, and they are a dime a dozen. Genius is not a big deal now, as it was then. What I respect and admire most are people who strive to be normal because it's not easy to be normal. Every human being has some dose of insanity in him and it takes real courage to take the high road and be normal. This is what Salvador Dali has failed to do. Sorry, I guess I'm just not a fan.

  • Being normal not always is the best purpose or best way to act. It specially can be said in art.

  • all you did was redefine the word 'normal' to mean genius, and 'genius' to mean normal

lol, so stupid trying to be smart

  • That's a good point. However, we don't know what defines "normal". I think ,"normal" means different thing to different people. Maybe Dali's way in fact was the normal way. Nobody knows that.

  • madman and genius!!

  • Yeah! Why not both?

  • It is an easy question... He is the best, he is the Genius!!

  • wich is the song that starts at 2:45?

  • Genius! of course...

  • Linguistics trick..... Madman & Genius are subject to interpretation....

DALI was UNIQUE, i think he knew what he was doing.

Nevertheless, THERE IS ONLY ONE DALI

  • 1:58 and 3:49 my favorite! great great great Salvator Dali!

  • Dali=genius

  • Genius

  • wow this is epic, dali is genius i love him!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is an easy question... He is the best, he is the Genius!!

  • Madman or Genius?......GEEEEEZEER!

  • Madman and genius...as well as shameless self promoter and jokester par-excellence of self-parody. There is only one Dali. Who can imitate him? (Bravo! on your music choice).

  • relatively average person who carried out dull eccentricities to fool others into thinking he was a genius.

  • Just curious to know how old you are and if you know his work...Also I do think that he probably just outlined with a pencil and got others to fill in the beautiful blanks in some of his great later works....

  • 101% GENIUS:D

  • "Geniuses are people who dash off weird, wild, incomprehensible poems with astonishing facility, then go get blooming drunk & sleep in the gutter. Genius elevates a man to ineffable spheres far above the vulgar world, & fills his soul with a regal contempt for the gross & sordid things of earth."

    -Mark Twain

  • I'd say, genius.

  • but I like this mix...

  • the music of the paco de lucía no relation with dali ,is from andalucia (with federico garcia lorca yes),but dali is more near france, europe, near catalonia and the spanish mistics, the music OK for this video is vivaldi or ravel

  • Excellent tribute, 'lancelot'.

Fantastic paintings, great photographs and sublime words.

Paco De Lucia's music suits it to a T.

    Dali is dead. Viva Dali!

    Cheers!

  • MAD GENIUS.

  • yes.. no question about it. he had insanity in him. but can you name a genius who wasn't crazy? he is one of the greatest artist of all time. and no one can say other wise.

  • I dont think he was crazy, it was just the way he was raised to see things the way he did. And then taking what he saw and growing with it.

  • okay , the painting with the pear isn't a Dali... it was done by Vladimir Kush ( Still life with a mandolin ).

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • entre dos aguas

    form paco de lucia

    bye professormarvel

  • semantics: Madman/genius

    Both mean nothing.

  • theres nothing that could sum up his paintings.

there so sureal that its genius.

but its so crazy its mad,

some of the most inspiring work in the universe.

you have to be mad to be a genius.

  • dont think there is much of a difference between a madman and a genius

  • un genio como la copa de un pino!!

  • Both...one doesn't mean it has any affect on the other. Very nice vid, thanx!

  • simply a genius madman

  • The word "madman" means what? The word "genius" means what? Words are such silly things. They are inadequate. They are labels that just don't quite work.

  • GENIUS !!! obviously >_>

  • entre dos agues-paco de lucia

  • Salvador Dali is my HERO!!!!!!!

  • Very nice tribute to a man who has added much to our world with his vision.

  • gala, dali and the others... the others, who can say me this beautiful video's song?

  • he liked to play the mad.

  • So the problem I think it's with the "mad" concept :) Was he really a fucking insane man? Or wasn't we prepared to understand his higher mind? :)

  • Good question. I think both. The question it's that there are so much mad people who don't have the luck he had or they feel shut off from society thinking they are useless. And in this point it's where you can finish as been Dalí, or finish in the psyquiatric :S Normally "crazy" people are very intelligent...more than the ones who surround them. And because of that they become genious or patients of a psyquiatric. Greetings from Spain

  • genius

  • Superb!

  • Absolute Genius.

  • muy buen video!

  • great video, Dalì my favorite! really good tribute to the genius of surrealisme.

    I love his art.

  • go Dali!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sus imagenes son divinos!!

  • a man who lived in front of his time.

    Viva Dali!

  • Wow....fasanating....some i aint seen in there....

  • Some times we think a Genius is a madman, but in this case I think he was both. Awesome, Intelligent, Creative, and Insane! One of my favorite artists.

PS: I also want to know the name of the song hehe

  • Entre Dos Aguas

  • could any one tell me the name of the song playing in this video

    cheers

  • Paco De Lucia´s Entre Dos Aguas, Cheers!!!

  • Qual o nome dessa musica? Por favor :)))

  • Entre Dos Aguas, Paco De Lucia... :)))

  • it's mad to be genius

  • Madman, no.

    Genius, yes.

  • Genius!!

  • This kind of genius are only born once every 100 years. Let's see who's gonna be the one on this century.

  • is it possible he could have been both?

  • GENIUS with out a dout

  • GENIUS !!!

  • Both! What's wrong with having a little Mad spice in the mix! :)

  • i am dali =)

  • and I don't think he's the least bit "mad". Just extremely intune with his unconscious mind, knowingly. I'm sure he's just having fun with it. Who wouldn't.

  • madness and genius are essentially identical

  • So you would consider... let's say... the crazy with the chainsaw hacking off faces to wear as his own, ALSO a genius? Maybe it seems to be a fine line for the outsiders who can't keep up & understand. But the same thing? naaaaaah.

  • Are you serious? You're provoking me to defend my words?

Chainsaw or paintbrush... it doesn't make much difference. However much the 'outsiders' would try to accomplish any of these feats, they'd fail. And isn't it logical that a madman's mind is most active? Don't you know that schizophrenics are the smartest people on the planet? They're usually the most accomplished classics.

Mentally lethargic 'outsiders' cannot be geniuses by definition.

  • Oh, this is matter of individual definition. I don't consider someone a genius just because they are quick minded. Although that is usually grounds for creativity, I think it soley depends on what they do with it. And that's not saying that I don't believe in criminal masterminds or anything. But really, how is running around and hacking people up grounds for genius? To me, that's crazy, "out of the box", but crazy.

  • And I don't really think the term "smart" is fitting for a shizophrenic. Again, creative, definitely! Maybe inbetween episodes when they have some self-control? Cause to me, someone who thinks his dog is plotting to have him killed or something alike, isn't exactly "smart".

  • If a man's an accomplished intellectual, random paranoia episodes would not instantly take away his title. Nor would epilepsy take away an athlete's title. It may randomly hinder it, but... it may not.

But yes, I did exaggerate what I said, yet there is still some truth in it.

  • what da hell he's holding at 3:03??

  • Who cares? Look at 3:43!

  • He is both ... nothing more to say

  • Mad genius!

  • Genius.

  • beautiful video.thanks for sharing miki!

  • he looks like the guy from that Hitchcock movie, spellbound or w/e it was called.

  • Genius and Madness Personified..So nice to see his work....

  • He IS the man!!! Cheers!!!

  • An artist is a reflection of his mentality there is your answer?

Roger A little madness goes such a long way and and Understanding the feeling of the word Peace!

  • Thanks!!!!

  • "There are some days when I think I`m going to die from a overdose of satisfaction". Never a more truism have I heard..at least in this decade, Hahahaha!!

  • Yeah!!!! That´s Dali!!!

  • Another video added to my Dali collection. The quotes were a welcome addition.

  • Thanks a lot!!! Cheers!!!

  • mad or genius? both, i guess you cant be one without the other

  • i adore the quotes, never has something become too inspiring to me. I'm writing it to my diary in big letters to the boost my self-confidence everyday.

  • "those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing"

AMAZING WORD OS WISDOM.. THANKYOU FOR THIS UPLOAD. MEANS MUCH TO ME.

  • thanks lancelotdulacbr!!!

now...retire now to see the rain outside in the middle of the night...in the smooth sound of drops falling down...there is DALI

  • from his quote in this youtube vid "intelligence without ambition is like a bird without wings" tells us he was intelligent and ambitious.

he was good at having people think he was mad.

  • cheers? wtf?jajja

  • he was a genius!!! by far...

he has been my admiration in art since high school. and many concider my art dali-esc.

  • Beautiful. I admire him a lot. A Madius indeed :D
