  • Nice video, hopefully nobody was in that semi!

  • incredible...thanks for share

  • I was there, too. I was 14 and lived out the Seward Highway. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Too bad about the quality. Looks like the stuff our family recorded of Anchorage. Ours was more in focus but just had the usual 4th Ave. JC Penny and other buildings. Nothing worth posting.

I ain't young but I'll Hip your ass under the table. I'd say more but it scares me just thinking about what all these little boys and girls have already heard with no way of understanding.

  • why are all you old creepy people on youtube?! its scary to us young and hip people

  • Nice video, thanks. I wish it was higher resolution.

Is that crack opening up real-time at 0:40 while being filmed or was it after the fact? It's hard to tell

  • I might as well add to this. I was there too. I lived in Sand Lake area and I was about 7 yrs old. I remember alot about it as young as I was. And I remember seeing alot of devestation days later when my dad took us into town.

  • Hey, a new earthquake today, one hour ago.

  • Today is 17/06/2011. just looking at some funky patterns, it seems a tsunami may hit indonesia soon, and maybe quake in chile again (14 days or so) I hope and pray this is NOT the case. :o)

  • I was there also 13 yrs old at the time. We live right by Resurrection Bay. The sights and sounds seemed unreal and amazing. The video was great too bad it was so blurry. The video brings back many memories. I too remember everything.

  • theres always earthquakes in alaska

  • I was there when this happened. I was 10 yrs. old and I remember everything that happened. This is the kind of thing that if you experience it you will never forget. At the time it was like a 7.5 on the Richter scale and has now been upgraded to a 9.2. The second strongest Earthquake in recorded history. The Earthquake in Chile with a 10. something.last year.

  • @KhayosofShadow I took an environmental geology class this semester and I now know why Alaska has so many tremors. I didn't know how frequent they were though. Thanks.

  • In HD please ! very good footage

  • Are there still ruins of the earthquake anywhere in AK?

  • @smellytoilet1996 yes there is still evidence of the quake here. Along the seward highway there is dead spruce trees still standing from when the land lowered during the quake and at high tide the land was flooded by sea water, killing the trees. In whittier, AK there is the old military base still standing that had to be abandoned after the quake and tsunami .

  • This video was recorded on 8mm film (possibly by my grandfather?) and was found about two years ago by my father. He found while cleaning the library in a Seward church--he was 14 years old and living in Seward when the quake and tsunamis struck.

  • cool face at 19 secs. ;-) looks a lil like ram dass guru , neem karoli .

  • Was there an earthquake prior to that in Alaska and has there been one since?

  • @housecry To the best of my knowledge the 1964 quake was the largest recorded quake ever to hit Alaska. There has not been another like it in Alaska since then, although smaller quakes occur quite often in the state.

  • @housecry the quake of 64 was the largest ever recorded in North America, and 2nd in the World. The Interior of Alaska experienced a 7.9 in 2002 (I am in Fairbanks) but of course was nowhere NEAR this one (in damage, effects, etc) The quake in 2002 was scary enough (only lasting 30-45 seconds) I can't imagine this one at 4-5 minutes...my mom lived in Valdez at the time and has told me what it was like. I want no part of it :P

  • @whytemyst32 I live in valdez and they was a recent report that Valdez was due for anther earthquake that was going to be even bigger.

  • lol my earth science teacher told me that there where recordings of quakes that literaly liqufid the ground, like u can actualy see waves of ground coming at you pretty insane

  • Eerie.

  • wow! I'm glad I wasn't in that one!!!

  • We are real Alaskans and know exactly what happened!! For the truth, visit the AlaskanView and subscribe!

  • WoW i hope nothing like that happens again. Im living in Anchorage now we've had some 5 pionter this past summer mabe one 6.0 the kinda scary.

  • its only a matter of time..I used to live in Louisiana and hoped we'd never see a massive hurricane..we both know how far that went.. I now live in Arizona, far away from hurricanes, earth quakes and tsunami's..Ahh..safe again

  • @Dissonant1975 Don't forget Tornados.....

    :(

  • @justkiddin08 The thing is we can always learn from the past yet it still seems that humans will risk the chance of dangerous events so that they may enjoy the place they call home. So be prepared for what may come. That's all.

  • wow

  • fascinating -the most authentic footage of the 64 quake I have ever seen. Thanks so much for sharing with the world.

  • Incredible. And scary. Good video footage and nice presentation.

    Thank you for sharing this!
