@zytigon For a modern slant on religion and spirituality I would add John Robinson HONEST TO GOD, Don Cupitt ABOVE US ONLY SKY and Anthony Freeman's GOD IN US. Pardon me for butting in - these are not evangelical texts but speculative, accessible works of theology.
@julesthemadman Thanks for that, I had a look through the reviews on Amazon about those books. Amazing all the different perspectives people have. I'm reading Darwins, ' On the origin of species' , quite a good read. Richard Dawkins, ' The ancestors tale ' is super. I've just bought ' Unweaving the rainbow ', looking forward to getting into that.
@zytigon Thought they might be of interest, by way of giving a fuller picture. I have always disliked the idea that Christians are simply expert at "believing what you know ain't so" and warmed to people who try to make some sense out of it from a philosophical point of view. Darwin was of course a Christian himself - Origin of Species predates by a year Essays and Reviews, about which you should be able to find out more online though it is now very ancient!
Its Actually Tittenhurst Park in Sunningdale in Royal Ascot The Once Residence of John And Yoko One Lennon ;)
At the time this was filmed it would of been owned by Ringo Starr :) Its now owned by the Sultan of Brunel apparently. The Operating Theatre Thomas Doldy is Wheeled into is the Famous "White Room" where the Video for Imagine was filmed ;)
The story goes that she blinded him with science, after she had been blinded with science by Dr. Magnus Pyke.
The implication of relevance has been that Dr. Magnus Pyke blinded everyone with science. This was especially the case when people noticed him walking alongside them on the streets of NYC, in particular.
Love this!! When my daughter was going pro as a dancer, I used to refer to her as "Poetry in Motion". I'll send this link to her, so she can finally get me...
Hehe I love this song. I heard this song when I was like 8 or something. and while studying biology, Ironically enough, it came to mind. hehe SHE BLINDED ME WITH SCIENCE!!
No no. Not from Whip it. But whip it is a great song too! ^_^ Am i right? I have all 80's songs on my Ipod! This songs funny. I like his weird " gifted" voice!!!!!!!
No No, i don't think its the same women. Well, then again.... maybe! Lol. Yeah...... ^_^ i'm not really much help tho. i did post a response on the place you did also.
The scientist was played by genuine scientist and presenter, the late Magnus Pyke. Pyke was genuinely eccentric and enjoyed playing to the "mad scientist" image, but was successful in explaining science in a way that was easily understood by the lay person. Apparently, when told of one of his lines, his first response was "ah, but no woman could blind ME with science. "
here is a crazy and very true fact. the guy on top of the roof in this video actually committed suicide later in his life by jumping off a roof, no joke.
Great song and great odd video which fits perfectly with the song. Kind of odd Dolby changed his name to Alton Brown and now has a cooking show on TV Good Eats :)
There is a great remake of this video if you look up "Thomas Techie - NMT Blinded Me With Science". It was made for a video contest at New Mexico Tech.
Nice. Dang, I wish I had a lab teacher that did that. Except...maybe only once in a while. Hearing this song every day would get obnoxious, no matter how good it is. XD
Snorting Coke? I thought it was smelling the chemicals. At the subsequent corresponding place he makes a guttural sound that is supposed to evoke machinery, I suppose.
The guy on the roof with the jet-pack or whatever it is, totally cracks me up.
Dr. Magnus Pyke on the different branches of science:
"If it squirms, it’s biology; if it stinks, it’s chemistry; if it doesn’t work, it’s physics; and if you can’t understand it, it’s mathematics."
