Start out with easy to play songs, with just chords or something, and play them until the muscle memory is strong enough that you don't have to think about it, then concentrate on sangin'!

I have the same problem ... What I do is just find easy songs that have a repeated strum pattern (easy one), and then I just practice playing, and singing it at my own pace. Hope that helps!
