  • I agree this interpretation of Melanie is beautiful and haunting, but there are multiple ways to interpret this text of the Stones. Quite frankly, I thought real 'wild horses' wouldn't work, as it was pretty obvious in the 70s on the hippie trail that the man and his woman are heroin addicts. "I watched you suffer a dull aching pain Now you've decided to show me the same. "Let's do some livin' AFTER WE DIE". Love to hear this music...

  • What can I say. I agree with my fellow reviewers/listeners.

  • fantastic version of great Stones song.

  • Flying in the wind~up~up~up~~~to~be~able~to~see~below.

  • Her unique voice and style .. suits wild.. or any horses ..

  • Why isn't Melanie in the Music Hall of Fame?

  • melanie one of a kind

  • ripper of a track..thanx

  • Beautiful creatures surrounded by gorgeous music!

  • former music critic,....... sure wish that was on my resume! If you were truly 'in the know', I wouldn't feel this response was needed. Find DR. Demento's version of 'Pencil-necked Geek', memorize the lyrics, then sing it to yourself.

  • SuperMurraya, why do you feel jealous of my supremely righteous comments?

I was a former music critic of a well known magazine. I happen to be in the know!

  • v=EoGCE1yzwzY it;s self ! :) QC

  • @SheWroteLove1 -I shall have to try to see if this song goes well with riding on horseback!Hope you find another horse as wonderful as Mayday :)

  • She is...unique!..Great singer .Glad I was around in her heyday to hear her.Really sorry to hear about your sad loss,SheWroteLove1.

  • Makes me think of my horse that I just lost. <3 I love you, Mayday.

  • @SAABguys. Well, that's a matter of opinion, isn't it?

  • A weak interpretation of a great song. Just goes to show that Melanie has a limited repertoire. Never been able to understand why this woman got so far in the music business.

  • @slaneybanner Possibly because she had an enormous amount of talent.

  • @slaneybanner Oh my, is somebody jealous???

  • BHOOOOOO

  • This was on Melanie's 1973 album Madrugada, which compiled covers of this, Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" and Jim Croce's "Lover's Cross." It also had some great original songs on it and seemed to come from a very dark place. (Madrugada is a Portuguese word for the darkest part of the night just before dawn). It's never been released on CD. Dunno why. freespace.virgin.net/robert_ian.smith/Albums/Madrugada.htm

  • a true Melanie Wild Horses....

  • Do you know what year she did this?

  • Wow I'm a huge Melanie fan but have never heard this....thank you SO MUCH for posting this.

  • beautiful work John x

  • wonderful...thanks for sharing...

  • MELANIE SAFKA RULES!!! Amazing vocals and interpretation of this beautiful song...as only she can do it....We're not worthy!

  • Mick wrote this one for Mariane after breaking her heart once again .

  • Her voice makes me tingle, and the pictures of the horses are wonderful too

  • I love Melanies version of this song. Susan Boyle (yes true) also sings a great version.

  • Melanie is the queen of the 70's. We love you, Melanie!

  • @keygain yes melanie is the queen, very, sweet girl and great voice.

  • i old italian man i have 53 years old ,i love malanie,great melodic voice e incredible vibration .

  • i have every album she ever made and somehow missed this cut..40 years later ( or so !!!) i just got em out and voila- B side of an album - if she has any b sides...just liked the other more i guess...or had heard Wild Horses too much back then..new meaning now..Wish Marianne Faithfull would do a version too!-( never will happen I'm guessing )..if Susan Boyle could...imagine Marianne's- anyway Why isn't Melanie in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame yet!..

  • @millerandlu The rock and hall of fame is a big joke that is why . There was a compilation album way back in the early nineties and there was a version of this sung by Marianne. I cannot find it anywhere but I am certain that I saw it. Since this song was written for her when she came out of an overdose coma it would be awesome IMO if Marianne sang it for sure. I love this version and Mick cannot even hold a candle to her.

  • @millerandlu I'm with you on that I'm shaking my head here going how have I missed this?

  • holy crap!!!! at 4:48 her voice gets soo quiet and then her voice just explodes it's amazing to hear!!!!

  • Go Melanie and make a 'mantra' of it like only you can. Wonderful version way before the X Factor production line of music came along,

  • Beautiful pics!!

Hers was my favorite version after the Stones until I heard Susan Boyle!!!

  • Hers was my favorite version after the Stones until I heard Susan Boyle!!!

  • I've never been entirely happy with this one. She's ever the optimist, and ever ready to go into vocal overdrive - but in this case, latching onto the "ride them someday" and making a mantra out of it, it kinda misses the point of the song. Yep, I too prefer the Sundays version.

  • This is the ultimate version for me, but then anything Melanie does is FANTASTIC.

She remains true to her art, and to her fans "The Dear Ones"

  • @throbespana ...^5~

  • Beautiful song, great video. Thank you

  • I`d love to hear Richie Havens cover this song.

    Melanie`s version is great.

But it`s such a great song anyway.

Simple but deeply profound lyrics Jagger/Richards at their very best.

  • I am so glad she likes the cover tunes I do.

  • I just listened to this for the first time in years...I have always thought this was an amazing version of this song. Very interesting -- puts a very individual spin on it. Not ever sure about all the violins...but, maybe...

  • MEL SANG THE MUSIC!!not the song!!!!

  • BiG fan of Melanie since the 60's...but, arguably, The Sundays version is the best cover.

  • Eat your heart out, SuBo

  • the original version is better

  • Simple amazing voice.

  • When I first this version I did not like it. Too many "we're gonna ride them somedays". But, it has grown on me and it is now one of my favorite covers.

  • no way!!! rolling stones version its better than these! but i like it too :D

  • Beautiful video !

  • This is amazing, Melanie Safka in my oppinion for a female singer, was so ahead of her time, she's the one who set the milestone for new music today, that have that 70's folk kind of sound.

  • Better than the Stones version.

  • At 4.48 that quite squile or what ever was with her voice before she explodes ( as only Melanie can) still gives me goosebumps from when I first heared this when it was released. Very special moment I think.

  • @bgfd1 What is a squile?? Do you mean squeal? I am not trying to be a jerk but rather am just trying to understand what you mean.

  • Incredible version of this song. Thankyou sooooo much for posting. This track has been so neglected like a lot of her stuff.

    Thankyou.

  • Love Melanies version, I think she covers The Rolling Stones better than they do them themselves. Just listen to her version of Ruby Tuesday

  • Great version, i love her voice
