  • To turn off the lights.... the power button is rotatable... turn it to the right... and the lights go out... turn to the left.. and they come back... and whats your problem with Norton?

  • I have the 6840 :)

  • Its broken because you set it on its face. Lulz

  • i like your PC i may get an updated version of this FX thanks for the great video

  • @boomheadshot1998 well, this is the only Gateway I've owned, and it's the FX6831 series. I would recommend any updated FX series, since mine is a year old now. I just happened to get an awesome deal on Tiger at the time....perhaps a similar deal still exists.

  • disturbing is such a strong word dude.

  • YES.. they lowered the price of this beast!!! its only 950 now! im getting for sure.. can you maybe put some gameplay or more vids on the computer i really like your vids and it will give me something to watch till i can get this baby ordered.

  • lol did you figure out how to turn off the red lights?

  • alright thanks for your time...and thanks for the vid..

  • so if i bought it from the tiger place like you did ...i noticed they come refurbished and i dont know if i want a refurbished one i kinda want a brand new one but it does sound good to get it for 200 dollars cheaper....idk what to do..

  • @secret4722 I think that for what you're getting with this rig, refurbished or not, for 200 cheaper, that's probably a good deal. Just make sure you get a solid warranty.

  • that sucks it came broke

  • @secret4722 yeah, but it was an easy quick fix...the latch had come undone...no broken plastic...just needed to be snapped back into place. It was just odd, because it had to have been packed that way. No way that happened during transit.

  • were dit you buy that

  • @AIRViZzIoNZz I bought it from TigerDirect

  • @dolphin80 whats the graphic card in that computer?

  • @erik818ws its the ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series, with 1GB of RAM. I bought the computer last year for my birthday and it's still purring like a kitten after a year.

  • what cord do you use to connect your pc to your monitor? A hdmi, Dvi, or Vga?

  • @crazysealion it does have an hdmi port, but I use a vga cable with the dvi to vga adapter. My monitor is older and only supports vga

  • test it on Crysis man!

  • @sheerfe4rstudios buy me the game and I'll be happy to test it for you!! :-)

  • @dolphin80 Haha, lol, you can buy it on ebay for like 15$ no joke. I got the maximum edition (Includes Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis Wars) on ebay for 30$

    Sick computer BTW

  • @dolphin80 you able to test the demo? i'm probably gonna buy this computer

  • @HydroBlast56 I'm downloading the Crysis demo today.....I'll report back on the results in a day or two. I can tell you that SC2 and MW2 all work fantastic at the highest possible settings.

  • @HydroBlast56 as I replied to sheerfe4rstudios, I did test the demo of Crysis on the FX6831 with GREAT success. I say BUY the computer!!! haha I'll post a video of the machine running Crysis soon.

  • @sheerfe4rstudios I'll make a video shortly, but I did put the Crysis demo on the machine. It ran beautifully, when I went into options and used the auto settings feature, it put all the graphics settings on HIGH. I played the first level, even though I suck at the game, and it was gorgeous. I didn't notice any lags or any issues while running the game. I may have to go buy it now!

  • @dolphin80 VERY NICE!

  • @tmzrox This Gateway replaced a 6yr old Dell XPS Gen 5 that did everything I asked of it right until I replaced it. You will be blown away on how quiet the Gateway is compared to the jet-engine sounding XPS machines from a few years back. I'm still very much a PC gamer when I get the chance to play, which isn't very much. Modern Warfare 2 and Starcraft 2 are awesome on the Gateway.

  • @tmzrox that is correct...the power button has a circular ring around it that acts as a power switch for the red lights. When you turn the computer on...you turn the switch to either have the lights on.......or if you prefer, off.

  • <3 this video!!!

  • you have steam!!!

  • @SilentKill217 absolutely...need it for Modern Warfare

  • Have you had any problems with the hard drive yet? Even if I bought this and an extra HD, I think it'd still be cheaper than what I'm looking at building myself. I was thinking about buying an SSD to boot from and just using the 1.5TB for everything else.

Also what test did you run to check all the internal components?

  • @iFischer08 this is the exact scenario I intend on doing in the near future. Not n any rush. No issues with the hard drive as of yet. The machine backs up nightly to my Windows Home Server, if the drive dies, no real loss, since all my sensitive files are housed on my home server and duplicated. I didn't use a "tool" per se to test components. My testing consisted of actually using the machine, running a myriad of applications, running games on their highest settings, etc. Still love it!

  • Ive been very very pleased with my gateway fx. What really got me to choose this was the exterior design first. i liked the positioning of the card readers on top, a very useful design for those like me who have their pc's positioned lower ontheir workstations. I also loved the color scheme and the low profile design (like asus computers) compared to alot of alienware or cyberpower pcs. Its a very powerful pc indeed. the i7 and 5850 combination effortlessly handle all new games easily

  • Good stuff Jose. Aside from the obvious, what I really love is how quiet this PC is. My older Dell XPS Gen 5 sounded like a jet engine when powered up. My home office is so quiet now with the FX. I love it!

  • @dolphin80 I know exactly what you mean, i use mine for film and audio editing(and gaming of course) and i couldn't have chosen a quieter pc at this price. Those alienware pcs sound like jets lol. at least the ones i saw. though id choose my trusty gateway over an alienware anyday. plus i like the look on peoples faces when i tell them i have a gaming gateway :P

  • its refurbished at tigerdirect for 1069$ right now. you think its worth the money?

  • @houtmaster

From the reviews on Tiger, it looks like there was quite a few folks who had issues, returned the unit...perhaps these units have been "fixed" and are now being sold as refurbs. No experience with TigerDirect refurbs, but for just over $1000, you're still getting components that would cost you almost $1500 or more if you we're building this machine from scratch. There's no doubt that with only a 3 month warranty, you're taking a gamble, but if you're computer savvy..go for it.

  • tigerdirect has these as a refurbish for around 1000.00 bucks I was wondering if you had any history with tigers refurbs, You think it would be a good deal at 1069$

  • @sackiroth15 @dolphin80 sorry guys, i totally messed up where i put my comments about the red lights. anyway, just go to the comments page and you'll see it all. also, i tried updated the radeon driver to 10.6 which just came out, but when i did, it made my desktop shrink a bit on my HP 23" LCD monitor, and it grayed out my image control when i tried to adjust the settings on the monitor itself. i tried changing resolutions up and down, but it wouldn't work. i rolled back to 10.1, and now ok

  • So get this....my lights wouldn't come on either, and I was going crazy trying to figure it out. But then I noticed that there was one cable inside the case with two white 4 pin connectors hanging loose. It's been awhile since I've had a desktop, but I recall these being power supply for optical drives or older IDE hard drives. Anyway, I'm looking around inside the box to see if maybe a cable had come loose to power the red lights, then found on the ceiling of the box a 4-pin female end!

  • It's interesting that you say that....I unhooked that plug when I replaced the DVD-RW drive with a BlueRay drive and forgot to hook the plug back up when I put everything back....I wondered why my lights stopped working and sure enough...that's the power plug for the lights.

  • @dolphin80 so, no red lights front top next to the card reader?

  • well only for a moment....when I plugged the power plug back in, I've got my lights back

  • @dolphin80 i'm confused....so the two small grill sections next to the card reader panel should also light up? only i only get lights at the back grills and the front lower ones.....

  • yeah, I get those lights...I just posted another video of the internals of my machine, since I just installed a BluRay drive, and I show how to work the lights too. Not sure what could be the issue with yours....ensure every wire is plugged in properly on that upper wiring block.

  • I read somewhere that the highest score a mechanical drive can get is 5.9. If you want something in the 7 range, you need a SSD.

  • have u figured out how to work those lights yet? I've got the exact same pc but when i booted mine up for the first time there were no lights and i was just wondering how to turn them on.

  • I haven't...I scoured the BIOS looking for the options but couldn't find it. Perhaps in my rush to uninstall the bloatware that came with the PC, I may have deleted whatever program is needed to "work the lights." Let me know if you figure it out before me. If I do figure it out...I'll post it here.

  • @dolphin80

i read somewhere that you need to twist the on switch to turn the light on or off. Maybe you can confirm this. i might be ordering mine this week as well.

  • aha...I will try that when I get home...I was wondering about that switch...thanks Jimber

  • Jimber was RIGHT....just turn the switch on the power button and VOILA, the lights turn off....very, very easy to turn them on or off. Thanks Jimber!!

  • @dolphin80

glad i could help. I was wondering, before you bought that computer did you compare any others? I was looking at the dell xps 7100, do you have any ideas if i should get this one or a dell? never bought a dell or a gateway before but these two seem like really good deals.

  • I did compare.....the video card is what won me over....and let me tell you....compared to my old XT1800 in my Dell, Modern Warfare 2 looks unbelievable. I can't believe I was missing out all this time. Also, I just bought a BluRay drive from NewEgg that I'm going to install in this rig

  • @dolphin80 (oops, continuation of a reply i put in the wrong place) and when i plugged one of the male 4-pins into it, voila! the top back and bottom front lights came on! however, i thought there should be some in the top front ones too by the card reader, but so far have not been able to get it anything to light up in there....

  • @sackiroth15 @dolphin80 (continuation of comments on red lights) and there is also a black connector next to the white connector which i have no idea what it's for? any ideas? it's on that little circuit board mounted to the ceiling of the case.

  • hi, did your computer come with a keyboard and mouse? i didn't see it when you unboxed the machine. and how is the core clock speed on the machine? does it turbo boost? i've read it somewhere that it doesn't.

  • It did come with a keyboard & mouse.......I omitted the keyboard from the video by mistake. That is pretty much all that came with it. The clock speed is pretty good, running at 2.8ghz...I haven't had the opportunity to use turbo boost, but I read the same as you, it may not do it. Not that I need it for what I'm doing though.

  • Did you upgrade the hard drive and if so did you have any issues getting Windows 7 onto a new drive?

  • I did not upgrade the drive BigDog....but I will in the near future. As long as you do a backup to DVDs, you should have no issues restoring the OS (Win 7) to another drive. When I can swing it, I plan to install an SSD drive as my boot drive, and move the original drive to the hot swap bay, but that won't be for another few months. I'll post a follow up video.

  • thanks for posting this, brotha. this is really really helpful. are you going to send the machine back for the broken front panel? i'm curious about how their customer service is. keep us posted. also, the box looked a bit beat up. do you think that's part of the problem? i assume the machine looks completely new otherwise? Thanks!

  • Nah, I fixed the front panel. The plastic peg that held it in place had popped out and I was able to pop it back in. It works fine now. I read in some other reviews that this had happened to a few other folks. Its an easy fix. I'm fairly tech savvy, so little things like this don't require me to get help from Gateway. I have NOT had to talk to Gateway customer support just yet, but I hear that is a major pain and you're essentially talking to a call center in in India.

  • @dolphin80 OK, cool. I ordered mine this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have any of the issues that some commentors have noted.....and hopefully don't have to deal with Gateway Cust. Serv! Let us know too if the additional hard drive bays work as advertised.

  • Cool, let me know how it goes for you

  • Very nice, I wanna get one of those, just don't have the cash to put out like that.

  • Awesome Computer! Mines Coming Tommrow :D!
