my cousin kevin hoover was on this ship he retired master chief served in the the gulf many many other upublished operations this ship was not a a joke carried alot of special forces and other military...i've been in the bottom of this ship and on the deck sat in the aircract it carried, a ship that meant business in a small package.
Ahhh, that brings back memories. HMH462, around 1976, Operation Eagle Pull. Our birds were parked on deck. The grunts would PT up and down the deck, in formation. I looked at my bud and say, 'You know what would be cool, go down and change the position of the tie down chains each time they pass."
Grandad was on 'USS New Orleans CA-32'- WW2 Pacific. Was wounded during the Battle of Midway, but stayed on board for the remainder of the war. He got 5 medals including the Silver Star! GO NAVY!!!! HOO YAH!
I was on the USS New Orleans with HMM-268 Hydraulics during the Reagan visit to Bali. We had a practice evac with Eagle 1 landing on the ship. I saw the prez seal on everthing inside the huey.
I was ON THIS WestPac, On the USS New Orleans ! We were a bit upset with Reagan cause we sat off the coast of Bali for him but never got to go ashore. He thanked us all over the ship speakers as he flew out. I was Avionics. USMC.
I was also on the New Orleans WestPac '86. I was Flt Line - Dragon 40 (Huey) with Pete Vickery, Larry (Staplehead) Stapley, and "Mean: Joe Courey in Metal Shop!
