@EyeDriveATruck Im happy that just like music and clothes, the new trend is muay thai, brazilian jj, Tkd, etc... because my dad taught me sho shou and man does it work:)
@animusdius These acrobatics are a disgrace to what Shou' Shu' is. This is not Shou' Shu' - it's hollywood bullshit. Fun to watch, but absolutely NOT applicable.
@Goldiney demonstrations are different then practical applications. I am a Moore's student and have been for a little over a month. They dont teach you just things to show off, they do it on you. As i write this I'm still feeling the bruises from the time i just spent there. I'm learning more than I ever hoped to know, and feel more confident that I could protect myself from my ex or any stalker. Moore's is an amazing studio
@writerchick519 I understand, but I also practed Moore's Shou' Shu' for about 4 years (accumulated). I know the style very well - it is extremely effective and devastating. However, this video gives the absolute wrong idea about the art. This is not even a demonstration of Shou' Shu' - sure they sneak in cobra strikes here and there, but it has nothing to do with the art itself.
I have a first degree brown belt in Shou Shou. I haven't had any formal training in about 13 years, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it. I may not have the speed, precision and fluidity that I used to, but I can still take care of myself.
you know shou' shu' means fighting way of the beasts the seven animal styles dragon,bear,tiger,eagle,panther,crane, and snake im working on sheng chi {bear}
@mindmaster323 No offense so dont take this wrong but dude you have it wrong. I am a actual black belt at shou shu. The styles starting from lowest to high. bear, tiger, mongoose, crane, mantis, cobra, and dragon
The guy That kicks ass at 1:42 through 1:47, my dad knows him not well but did demonstration with him once. too bad didn't make this vid my dad is only green belt though so thats prob y.
shou shu is like the best there is! i suggest it to all! It is the truest form of self defense as the video says. The reason y is they teach you that pretty mush there is no rules to defending yourself if some1 is going to try and kick your ass tear his eyes and and feed his balls too the pigs. Kung Fu and Tie Quando r mostly for tournament fighting where there is a point system. Here if you have to break some1s neck so they don't kick your ass anymore do it
@originalkillerpuppy Your correct, but also wrong. If a person isn't willing to learn then they get a bad experience frome this style, especially if they started out doing some other style, but if a person is open minded and willing to learn and serious about learning, then it is the style and the person. Before the clip begins the moddo or saying, call it what you like, its true. I don't like to brag especially about something like this, but this style is the best, it gives you full defense.
@originalkillerpuppy Full defense and security, maybe not at first but even a begining white belt is developing skills to defend him/her self! so once again you are correct and wrong.
@thecolemanofficial yea man, you should join this stuff aint no joke. this is some killer stuff. I could give you dasfifu frier's number if you want. he runs the studio in clovis.
@thecolemanofficial I know Trenton's Dad. I work out with him. Trenton just beat a kid at a tournament. If you're still interested, I'll send you my email.
for ppl who think this shit is fake doesnt work or is a waste of tme id like u to go up to a green belt in this system and fight them abou v out of ten time the green belt will beaat u sensless
Da Shifu: Kung Fu is Cantonese: it was originally seven ways of the beast, but now is broken down into Kenpo and is split between northern and southern China. It would be the sister of Shou Shu. One is Mandarin, the other is Cantonese.
Read the whole interview on the Discussion or talk page at Wikipedia-Shou Shu
to truth - to be honest i think shou shu has a lot to offer any matrail arts, its both a soft and hard style not too much of either its a great combo , and it will work on the streets it just depends on how much u trian on the reaction and thats
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i used to train with a few of the people in this video. this is a school that is definately worth attending. i plan to return to continue training as soon as funds are available for it.
Is Shou Shu Kung fu or Karate? Some of you say that it is Kempo...is Kempo a hard, soft style or both? Shou Shu teaches 7 animal fighting styles, while wing chung teaches 5...but they look SUPER differ...Can Shou Shu work in the streets if one was fighting a skilled martial artist? (EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW TO FIGHT THESE DAYS) Is Shou Shu better than WIng Chung or Ving Tsun...considering all is equal? Please HONEST answers.
Personally I do not care about the stories of Shou Shu, but I guess some of you do. The statement at Wikipedia (Shou Shu) about Al Moore only teaching 4 Dan in Kenpo has been deleted.(Undo) This in it's self tells us plenty. Check the History page at Wiki. The Shou Shu history changes monthly, just plain silly!
I made a few contacts, then read what Sigung Stephen Labounty had said, Listed on the discussion page at Wikipedia, all had the same story. Al was one of the oldest Kenpoists being over 40 when he recived his black belt.
The Moore brothers were indeed two of GM Lee's first black belts but did not go beyond first degree. They then left to start their own school. What they teach is what the learned from him. They then created their own history and taught the system the way they wanted to. Richard Lee has had no involvement with them since that time.
I read in Wikipedia that Al only taught Shou Shu to 4th Dan in Kenpo. To fit this time frame, this could only have pertained only to Parker black belts, and very few at that! Bok Fu Kenpo started in 1967, in1965 Al Tracy was still 3rd black. Al left Kenpo in the late 60's early 70's. If any body knows of a 4th degree Kenpoists in the late 60's, please post.
WhiteCane...I can back up the fact that Moore's Sho Shu was kempo. I worked with a guy whose father was taught by Al Moore in Hayward when they first opened. One of my uncles was also taught by Al when it opened in Lodi. My other uncle was taught in Lodi and later in Rancho Cordova. My daughter took classes in Manteca before it became Fit Force.
Al must have thought it had some use, he paid for Al Jr to be taught there. Al jr was just a teenager at the time, and Al and Ralph already recived their Belts in that Kenpo style (Bok Fu) in the 60's.
Also found at (East West-Bok Fu Do) Go to History of Bok Fu Do found left of main page. Then to (Hall of Fame) page listed at bottom of page, Al, and Ralph was two of the first four Richard Lee's black belts in the 1960's, Al Jr and Mr Ito became black belts in the 1970's
Yea, i know, it is kinda funny, i them talk about going there to learn how to make money teaching martial arts, because they had n clue how to do it. I have also heard them say that pretty much everything they learned there was useless.
WhiteCane, Correction! In1967 "I was teaching the Tracy system of Kenpo as taught to him by Ed Parker. I had many students that earned their black belts with me under the Tracy system of Kenpo. The black belts that I produced after 1972 were the first Bok-Fu black belts." Mr Lee- Al & Ralph were Tracy' Black Belts. Found at history of Bok Fu. Al jr after 1972
I was told by one of the old timers Al and Ralph was one of the Tracy's first black belts. I was searching for a list of all the branches of kenpo and found the Moore's listed on (Ito's white tiger Inc.) About Kenpo page found on the left side of page. Family tree listed on the bottom of the about kenpo page. I found that Mr Ito had trained with the Moore's under Richard Lee. Tracy's kenpo then Richards system Bok FU. The stories of Shou Shu is up to the readers and students to debate.
this looks allot like some kenpo schools that we have out here in central ca, is this a kenpo based art with Chinese mix ?? How would this style mix with wing chun I wonder, the footwork and punching techniques are way different, I think I would confuse myself, trying to mix the 2, I do however have Karate as my base art....but rarely use it...is this a good system, does anybody know ?? Thanks....
when you train the amount a shou shu shifu has, those stances and techniques become second nature when the time comes. It isn't about kicking drunks asses, or being the tough guy in high school. It's about defending yourself and reading situations.
How stupid. I hate fake fighting, choreographed sequences. Shou Shu would get you fucked up in a bar fight. Granted all Martial Arts are good for helping develope balance and coordination but a real fight happens to fast for those stances and techniques. I know everyone is going to jump all over me because they wasted a decade trying to be the karate kid but come on, seriously?
this brings back memories from 1977, now that i'm older and not as agile as i used to be, i remember shifu clark, tom fuller and my memory fades on the others who whipped me into shape and changed my attitude for the better. i remember the grand instructor, but i forgot his name, i remember his patience, kindness he bestowed upon me.
Yes, there's DaShifu Freier, DaShifu Smith, DaShifu Siegfried, DaShifu Parkins, DaShifu Ralph Moore (DaShifu Al Moore Sr.'s Brother), & Jung Moon Al Moore II (Al Moore Sr.'s Son). Look it up on Google, you can see Pictures of them, or go to the Shou' Shu' Website... I'm only a High Orange Belt, but I remember dummying for DaShifu Parkins doing "Splitting The Trunk" this last camp in September. He made me almost face plant the ground!
I use to take shou shu ten years ago when I lived in Lodi (blue belt). I went to camp when Da shifu was still alive...Is there another Da shifu now? I seem to remember there was only like one guy that was studying dragon under him and was a student for 24 years, but I don't remember his name...
i would really like to see the old shifu amos and runstien i hope i spelled that right, but would have loved to see that sparring session NO PLANNED STUFF but those 2 are some of the best, fast and hit hard, but the hardest ive ever been hit was by Shun-Shifu Kreiger, thanx for changing my life i owe alot to you
we dont have all the good stuff shifu king has alot of do jo around but he just teaches at the one here in turlock david (shifu king) is awsome like amazing
bullies? I doubt that, i think the school prides itself in the fact that its such a friendly environment. i think u have been watching the karate kid too much and got moores mixed up with the cobra ki.
ya all the time thats why i wanted to know who said it to see if i know the person or if it was some random person outside or maybe someone picking someone else up.
Did you go on Friday? Friday is a good day to go i think usually not as crowded.
Braveboldbatman i still say your crazy. I dont understand why u wouldnt just call the police if they punched you.
@Nate5736 hay if there was any kind of issue with the school and the way people were acting you should call shifu king 209-664-1712 or email him at 327king@att.net and i know that he will get back to you
it is not our fault that their are racist people at the moore's dojo in turlock, and no i would not want to be in your system if being a ignoranr racist is invovled, for we are all GOD's children. if your dojo was not racist then why was my g/f called a gook literally right outside the dojo? we were gonna check out the dojo, lucky for us we heard first hand the racism that moore's represents. we called quit a few times and yet response from any black belts in charge, including shifu king.
braveboldbatman: Your crazy lol no one is going to hit you if u get in an arugment with them. You ever hear of assault?
Nate did u ever talk to instructor king yet? Tell me who was the person calling you a gook i might know them. Like i said before everyone down there are all friendly and helpful ppl. every welcoming
It's about learning the motions, learning how to move from one motion to the next, each motion setting up for the next motion to keep the upper hand. In a fight, you might use bits and pieces from several Shou Shu techniques. It's all up to you. You can make it as complex as you like or as simple as you like. A simple block with a kick to the groin will end many fights.
we were their to check out the dojo, and i came up on racism, we will go back this friday to see if shifu king will talk to us and explain why his student called me a gook. but until he or a black belt in charge talk to us we will let the world know of the racism that happen to me.
i just know from personal experience that the moore's dojo in turlock is racist. i hope it gets closed down because if the shifu cannot instil dicipline on his students then he is not a good teacher, or mayber he is racist himself and does not care what his students do or say outside the dojo, and i do mean right outside the doors!.
my g/f who is hmong was called a "GOOK" which is a racial comment for vietnames people during the vietnam war. we were gonna talk to shifu king but he don't return our calls or have time to talk to either of us. that is why moore's is racist. if they were'ent racist then why is he avoiding me and my g/f?
King...as in Isaac? I would have my MIND BLOWN if he was a Shifu, but I guess it's been about 10 years and he was up there with my other instructor buddies. So it fits timeline wise.
I've done several different martial arts before I did Shou Shu, and it's never been a problem. And as far as MMA vs. Shou Shu, it would depend on which individual trains harder, obviously.
just saw that video of that bobby j blythe black belt beating up that retarded guy that was some bull shit. That black belt was barley winning until he popped him a few times good at the end.
I would have to agree that MMA Fighters have great conditioning. However, there are some places on the body that CANNOT be conditiond. Thus, if struck properly...could mean lights out temp/ or perm.
Shou Shu is not a pretty martial art. It is however a very effective ma. Striking consists of punches, kicks, knees, elbows, chops etc. Power behind the strikes is emphasized. If you want pretty try TKD,if you want to be able to fight try Shou Shu.
Shou Shu has been tested countless times over the last 40+ years and the current head of Shou Shu holds a rank of black or higher in like 20 some styles. Example, iirc, he has like a 5th or 7th degree in TKD and he has reviewed Shou Shu from head to toe. If something doesnt work, its thrown out.
never in a million a million years would you ever consider
hey if i practise a martial art and it teachs you counters to another arts(mma, kung fu, , knife fighting etc techniques.
instead of only practising with students of your own style wouldn't it also be logical
to get with some experince with students of another style and see what techs works and what needs to be modified and also you can borrow some of the other styles techs and blend and graft them with your own! :)
iam just making the simple arguement if one trains in karate or kung fu and that you are taught how to deal with attacks of a mma fighter ,or eriskma etc....would'nt sense to get with a couple of guys or girls that are decent know mma and find out what techs work and what don't and what has to be modified.
Why do you guys always think these MMA fighters are so great? Man they suck their foot work is crap, their kicks are crap, and so our their punchs. They always punch from too far away or they just swing wildly.
At shou shu they teach u everything, We do grappling all the time.
This has been an interesting topic covered. I would have to go with Shou Shu. I do have a good friend who nearly went pro as a boxer...who says that every martial artist who ever came to his gym got beat very badly.
In ALL HONESTY...How many here believe that a well trained shou shu student, would defeat a well trained MMA/UFC student? With all things being equal. How many REAL LIFE Shou Shu students ever went heads with someone who studied heavy ground arts, and had great boxing skills?
With all things being equal a well trained shou shu student is going to have weapons and techniques that a mma/ufc (which is a sport) student has never had to deal with before.
and on the individual's ability to apply this knowledge. Shou Shu, in my opinion, is way deeper than mma in terms of how it should be used. MMA is a sport. Shou Shu is a way of living that, to me, goes beyond hand to hand engagement to win a fight. It means win at ALL costs not win a competition. I've learned if the fight is not worth the risks, why bother, if you have no choice, win at all costs. peace out.
I would like to know why you other guys think a boxer could beat a martial artist. A boxer fights with just his fist a martial artist uses everything at his disposal. Not to mention his leg is longer then the boxers arm.
where does the Shou Shu in moore's karate start since mr. moore trained in al tracy's and ed parker's kenpo karate,
i once knew an insturctor in turlock who was kun tao do ans taught a 7 animal system also(manits, monkey, tiger, crane, black dragon, golden dragon, snake (and mongoose. he also taught taichi chaun.
he also knew drunken-monkey stone-monkey forms.....just wondering ?
Shou Shu is the actual animal art that you begin learning once you attain your black belt. All the haters think that Kenpo is the same as Shou Shu, but when you get your black belt in Kenpo you're done learning. When you get your black belt in Shou Shou it means you're ready to begin learning.
nauctube has a valid point about the motions of shou shu. i am an old schooler and have learned that most good schools teach the same things about motion. excellent anoalogy using the guitar.
part ll.... instructors try and get you to react without using a techniques. That's one of the problems, people get stuck in technique mode. If you go past that, creating your own tech, using proper Shou Shu motions, you're on your way to really understanding Shou Shu, getting the most out of it. It's like playing the guitar. If all you know are chords (motions) and scales (techniques), but you cant improvise, you have a long way to go.
chisaoboy, the techniques teach how to flow from one motion to the next, each motion setting up for the next motion. Thats what it means to be a progressive style. So not only are you learning the motions of Shou Shu, your learning what motion to do next to keep the upper hand. So if you get into a fight, you'll have tons of things you can do. It's no about trying to pull off some technique on the street and the longer you stay in Shou Shu, the more.. to be continued
that man had no right to say that to me, i am Hmong, 'Gook" is a term used for Vietnames people during the Vietnam war, i have tried to get a hold of Shifu king at the turlock Dojo again but he is teaching a class and don't return my calls, so after about 3 weeks i just gave up. is their someone higher i can talk to about this?.
thats a real shame i know most of the adults there i go to the night class. Getting a hold of shifu king is kind of hard, i dont think its because he hates you or anything like that. Try calling after they first open or on friday think there are only 2 classes on fridays.
and my girl friend is a green belt in Eskrima. it was the Turlock school we went to. the Dojo is impressive, but because of that inccident we will not go back.
Please don't assume Moore's students are disrespectful just because of one experience you had at a school in Turlock. Every school I've been to has always had a good environment, and besides there's really not much out there on the same level.
I went to a Dojo and got disrespected by a green belt, my girl friend is Hmong and while she was on her cell phone outside he told her "no one speaks Gook around here, only english'. so we left and did not get to see the black belt like we were supposed to for enrollment. i do not recemmend going to moores because of the lack of respect the students have. i have a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jistu and i am a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Yes, but I have a long way to go before I consider myself good. I think many of the ShoShu techniques could be useful if only the first couple moves of each were used... I just thought they're too long and involved. I think simplicity is the key for self-defense. Even many Kung Fu styles are too showy and flashy. Good kung fu, it is said, is not pretty.
A good workout, but too much technique-based stuff to be practical. I studied this for a couple of years. Glad I did. But never thought it was real practical. Too much emphasis on learning memorized, complex, multi-part techniques, e.g. 5 Swords... Mantis and the Mongoose, etc. Fun to do and made some good friends. Dashifu Al Jr is a great guy.
nauctube: I never said that. You missed my point. It's the techniques that are too many moves deep that are too complex to be practical to pull off on the street in a self-defense situation. No one is going to stand there for you to pull off something like 5 Swords or Mantis and the Mongoose, let alone trying to pull off Twisting Cobra. Some were cool, but many were just too complex.
I received a copy of an Email from Mr Ito to a student of Moore's, asking about the history of Shou Shu. I checked the e-mail address, it came from Mr Ito.
Yes. I started under Richard Lee, at the time the dojo was called East-West Kenpo Karate.
Yes, Shou Shu claims are ODD. Take it with a grain of salt. A free encyclopdia does not verify claims by , want to be Grandmasters & Legends.
Many say Shou Shu is just this or that but I have yet to see Shou Shu's true Cobra whipping motion in any other art esp Kenpo, Bok Fu Do or East West Kung Fu. If anyone can prove me otherwise, please feel free to put up a video link. I'm not interesting in spending $60 for some DVD that no one can prove has the correct motions on it anyway.
You will find Moore's Brother on the family tree on the bottom of the page listed (About Kenpo) Mr Ito trained with the Moore's under the Tracy's and Richard Lee.
Love sho shou studied it since 1994, I go against my friend whos a state wrestling champ and he beats me a lot, Ive learned wrestling from him and I combine what I know in sho shou with my wrestling. Wrestlings the key when Im on the ground or were tied up, Makes a world of diffrence I learned the hard way.
I have been in Shou Shu for years, and this is NOT SHOU SHU. I understand its supposed to be cool (which it is),but its hollywood nonsense and not shou shu.
It was for the black belt demos at camp, its not really "techniques" it was just stuff that we came up with to make people go, "Oh thats cool, i want to be able to do THAT!" Motivation and stuff....
It does not look like kenpo. The only reason they went to kenpo was to find out how to market martial arts. That chick you had us look at was an atrocious martial artist. Seriously looked like crap.
I may not be high green belt or third degree brown belt but I myself practice this martial art.

Da Shifu: Kung Fu is Cantonese: it was originally seven ways of the beast, but now is broken down into Kenpo and is split between northern and southern China. It would be the sister of Shou Shu. One is Mandarin, the other is Cantonese.

JustTheTruth2010 1 year ago
Personally I do not care about the stories of Shou Shu, but I guess some of you do. The statement at Wikipedia (Shou Shu) about Al Moore only teaching 4 Dan in Kenpo has been deleted.(Undo) This in it's self tells us plenty. Check the History page at Wiki. The Shou Shu history changes monthly, just plain silly!
WhiteCane 1 year ago 11
It was great exercise and I met some nice people, but IMHO it's a lot of time spent learning lots of impractical, ridiculously contrived moves.
chisaoboy 1 year ago 2
I made a few contacts, then read what Sigung Stephen Labounty had said, Listed on the discussion page at Wikipedia, all had the same story. Al was one of the oldest Kenpoists being over 40 when he recived his black belt.
WhiteCane 1 year ago 24
The Moore brothers were indeed two of GM Lee's first black belts but did not go beyond first degree. They then left to start their own school. What they teach is what the learned from him. They then created their own history and taught the system the way they wanted to. Richard Lee has had no involvement with them since that time.
jdinca 1 year ago 83
@WhiteCane The Moore's did study under Sigung Stephen LaBounty for a short period in the Parker system. Bryan Hawkins at United Kenpo Systems
WhiteCane 1 year ago 15

117Diesel 1 year ago 10
Al must have thought it had some use, he paid for Al Jr to be taught there. Al jr was just a teenager at the time, and Al and Ralph already recived their Belts in that Kenpo style (Bok Fu) in the 60's.
WhiteCane 1 year ago 6
Also found at (East West-Bok Fu Do) Go to History of Bok Fu Do found left of main page. Then to (Hall of Fame) page listed at bottom of page, Al, and Ralph was two of the first four Richard Lee's black belts in the 1960's, Al Jr and Mr Ito became black belts in the 1970's
WhiteCane 1 year ago 61

How would this style mix with wing chun I wonder, the footwork and punching techniques are way different, I think I would confuse myself, trying to mix the 2, I do however have Karate as my base art....but rarely use it...is this a good system, does anybody know ?? when you train the amount a shou shu shifu has, those stances and techniques become second nature when the time comes. It isn't about kicking drunks asses, or being the tough guy in high school. It's about defending yourself and reading situations.

justin maybe because your art didn't have a reality.based system
when you were a karate kid and trained in martail arts
what type of material did they give you was it all just forms and sets and out of dated material
becuase their master 100 yr ago did the same
did they ttry to teach u point fighting and chi power.
did they go over what what to do in high stress situions and teach you the not only the how and when but also the "why"

This is NOT intended to demonstrate realistic material. This is for entertainment purposes ONLY.
P.S. Do not make claims about a martial art of which you know nothing about.

Yes, there's DaShifu Freier, DaShifu Smith, DaShifu Siegfried, DaShifu Parkins, DaShifu Ralph Moore (DaShifu Al Moore Sr.'s Brother), & Jung Moon Al Moore II (Al Moore Sr.'s Son). Look it up on Google, you can see Pictures of them, or go to the Shou' Shu' Website... it is not our fault that their are racist people at the moore's dojo in turlock, and no i would not want to be in your system if being a ignoranr racist is invovled, for we are all GOD's children. if your dojo was not racist then why was my g/f called a gook literally right outside the dojo? we were gonna check out the dojo, lucky for us we heard first hand the racism that moore's represents. we called quit a few times and yet response from any black belts in charge, including shifu king.

to chisaoboy,
continuing on...
It's about learning the motions, learning how to move from one motion to the next, each motion setting up for the next motion to keep the upper hand. In a fight, you might use bits and pieces from several Shou Shu techniques. It's all up to you. You can make it as complex as you like or as simple as you like. A simple block with a kick to the groin will end many fights.

i just know from personal experience that the moore's dojo in turlock is racist. i hope it gets closed down because if the shifu cannot instil dicipline on his students then he is not a good teacher, or mayber he is racist himself and does not care what his students do or say outside the dojo, and i do mean right outside the doors!.

I've done several different martial arts before I did Shou Shu, and it's never been a problem. And as far as MMA vs. Shou Shu, it would depend on which individual trains harder, obviously.

With all things being equal a well trained shou shu student is going to have weapons and techniques that a mma/ufc (which is a sport) student has never had to deal with before.
MachineFILTHY 2 years ago
it seriously depends on the rules, if any,
and on the individual's ability to apply this knowledge. Shou Shu, in my opinion, is way deeper than mma in terms of how it should be used. MMA is a sport. Shou Shu is a way of living that, to me, goes beyond hand to hand engagement to win a fight. It means win at ALL costs not win a competition. I've learned if the fight is not worth the risks, why bother, if you have no choice, win at all costs. peace out.

braveboldbatman 2 years ago
Shou Shu is the actual animal art that you begin learning once you attain your black belt. All the haters think that Kenpo is the same as Shou Shu, but when you get your black belt in Kenpo you're done learning. When you get your black belt in Shou Shou it means you're ready to begin learning.
MachineFILTHY 2 years ago
nauctube has a valid point about the motions of shou shu. i am an old schooler and have learned that most good schools teach the same things about motion. excellent anoalogy using the guitar.
modestohomeboy 2 years ago
part ll.... instructors try and get you to react without using a techniques. That's one of the problems, people get stuck in technique mode. If you go past that, creating your own tech, using proper Shou Shu motions, you're on your way to really understanding Shou Shu, getting the most out of it. It's like playing the guitar. If all you know are chords (motions) and scales (techniques), but you cant improvise, you have a long way to go.
nauctube 2 years ago
chisaoboy, the techniques teach how to flow from one motion to the next, each motion setting up for the next motion.

Please don't assume Moore's students are disrespectful just because of one experience you had at a school in Turlock. Every school I've been to has always had a good environment, and besides there's really not much out there on the same level.

what style do you study chisaoboy...is it wing chun?
are you any good at chi-sao?
braveboldbatman 2 years ago
Hi braveboldbatman:
Yes, but I have a long way to go before I consider myself good. I think many of the ShoShu techniques could be useful if only the first couple moves of each were used... I just thought they're too long and involved. I think simplicity is the key for self-defense. Even many Kung Fu styles are too showy and flashy. Good kung fu, it is said, is not pretty.
chisaoboy 2 years ago
A good workout, but too much technique-based stuff to be practical. I studied this for a couple of years. Glad I did. But never thought it was real practical. Too much emphasis on learning memorized, complex, multi-part techniques, e.g. 5 Swords... Mantis and the Mongoose, etc. Fun to do and made some good friends. Dashifu Al Jr is a great guy.
chisaoboy 2 years ago
Blocking a punch while snap kicking the groin isn't practical? Yeah, Shou Shu isn't for you.
nauctube 2 years ago
nauctube: I never said that. You missed my point. It's the techniques that are too many moves deep that are too complex to be practical to pull off on the street in a self-defense situation. No one is going to stand there for you to pull off something like 5 Swords or Mantis and the Mongoose, let alone trying to pull off Twisting Cobra. Some were cool, but many were just too complex.
chisaoboy 2 years ago
