Thanks for this video. It seems like every time I look up HRT or other FBI special agent videos, it comes up as either characters from TV shows or video games with these super dramatic soundtracks in the background.
@wafflecushioned , no not exactly. But it certainly does help. The FBI doesn't want to waste their time training candidates on the basics. I know an ex hrt member who was given invitation and he was a former Army MI officer. Besides that I really don't know anymore than you and what the website says.
@87PowerMan What I'm saying is, does the FBI look at the files of candidates and pick the most impressive one? Or do they give everybody a chance to prove themselves before choosing?
@87PowerMan Yeah the website basically said that all special agents in the FBI are eligible to try out for HRT. So first step is become a special agent. After I get my bachelors degree I want to apply to a few federal agencies.
There is a book out called "Cold Zero" written by former HRT operator, Chris Whitcomb, 2001 oublish date. He was very clear that you do not need military or special operations experience to be with HRT. Though some of their members had these backgrounds and did very well, it was not a guaranteed thing. Sometimes taking a guy with the raw tools and abilities is the better way to go as he is "fresh" and doesn't need to unlearn habits that work in the military but not in law enforcement.
Sometimes its the 'science geek' that is more adequete for the hard and demanding missions that HRT commits to, than a muscle bound Hulk Hogan type of guy. The need inteligent, book smart, fit and healthy team players. 10% of th eselection process is phisical, the rest is all mental. Attention to details and undenying commitment - that will get you through.
Nope. It would make it a lot more easy yes. But there are also those who came to the FBI from Law Enforcement and worked their way up to HRT without being prior military/special operations.
so whats the age limit here most of the guy that are career soldiers get after 20 years normally 38, 39 or 40 but strong as fuck and have a bad ass resume, can they still get in some of this action?
I've discovered the great importance of understanding its not about competing and trying to think you are better than somebody else. true pros understand its nver about trying to compete or show off. YOu'll notice how special forces people generally always walk slowly and dont rush and that is important. I hate walking with people who rush round everywhere. I'ts important to take ur time
i've seen a clip of swat on the internet and they blew the door open and the ceiling fell down on the entire team. THat was pretty funny. I mean it could happen to anybody no matter how good they are but it was so funny. they were all covered in rubble
I can't imagine many former SOF types going into HRT either before or after this TRP deal. Most SOF types would probably try out for CAG (or Devgru), which would probably be more appealing work to those types. They probably created the TRP more for law enforcement SWAT types as they are a more suitable recruiting pool for Law Enforcement CT work.
MH6M, not sure where you got that info, but it's incorrect. To get into HRT one has always had to go through the process of becoming an FBI agent FIRST. SEALs and SF were never exempted from that.
Yeah on thw FBI website they said that Tactical Recruiting Candidates (ex military) are still applying as a SA first for at least 2 years before transferring to HRT.
And TRP candidates must still TRY OUT for HRT...there are no guarantees that they will be selected, even if they make it through the 2 week tryout.
The whole point of the TRP is just to increase the pool of agents with tactical backgrounds, who can then try out for the field office SWAT teams and HRT.
All FBI agenst are AGENTS first, tactical guys second.
yeah, they have to be an investigative agent for two years, and before that they must have at least three years of military experience, such as SWAT, Army, Air Force TACP and others, or Navy SEALS and others. After all that, they can APPLY to be on HRT
See kids? You wanna do something like this, then get off your butts, put Call of Duty 4 away and get into the military as soon as you can because it takes a lot of time to get from "What?! I shot that n00b faggot!" to "FBI!! Drop your weapon!!"
More like get off your butts and get an education. You need a minimum of a bachelor's do get into the FBI or any other Federal Law Enforcement Agency. Military service isn't required. You're better off with prior law enforcement experience (i.e. local police).
Maybe, but becoming an FBI special agent is incredibly difficult in the first place. There is an enormous amount of competition from people with advanced degrees and law enforcement experience. I wouldn't waste time with military service. I'd right away work towards getting my masters or juris doctorate. If you want to show you can handle being in a law enforcement tactical unit, try to make it into a local SWAT team first.
True but things have changed over the years. There was a time when ex SEALs, Rangers etc. went straight to the HRT selection course and if passed, they were in the unit with a SA rank in the FBI. Not sure how things are done nowa days.
To join the HRT, one must first become an FBI SA and complete of minimum of 2 years field work. Then you must be able to pass their stringent physical, psychological, written, and oral exams to even be considered. Now, assuming there is an opening on the team, you'll probably be competing against 500 agents for that one spot, so good luck.
The point is, you don't join the FBI to get into HRT, cause odds are its never going to happen. You join the FBI to be an FBI agent.
Thanks for this video. It seems like every time I look up HRT or other FBI special agent videos, it comes up as either characters from TV shows or video games with these super dramatic soundtracks in the background.

NO...That is the domain of the U.S Diplomatic Security Service.
Mostly, TheU.S DSS follow secretary of state everywhere she goes.
The U.S DSS is also deployed at MAJOR incidents (BOMBING'S M/ MASS SHOOTINGS ect...) at US Embassy' & Cosulates around the world.
The U.S DSS protect the secretary of state, much like th Secret Service protect the U.S President.

I consulted a Fed and yes, you were right, a FBI HRT/SWAT must be a Special Agent for a few years BEFORE he can try out for the tactical option.
MH6M 3 years ago
Powerjudo is correct, you must first be an FBI agent for 4 years. Same thing with most SWAT, you must be a police officer for several years.
ashtonkutcher69 3 years ago
yeah, they have to be an investigative agent for two years, and before that they must have at least three years of military experience, such as SWAT, Army, Air Force TACP and others, or Navy SEALS and others. After all that, they can APPLY to be on HRT
