Here is a great piece of advice. Try a VST called ABL by Audio realism. It is by far the best that I have ever heard and each knob on the interface is as the real tb 303 is, and you can assign any of the knobs to your midi keyboard and tweak the shit out of it. I have this vst and use it quite frequently in some of my stuff.

Guys, if you want to see what the 303 can really do, check out the Acid Symphony Orchestra, thats an group of ten people, with ten 303's hooked up to one TR 808, its amazing!

Its dumb to buy them for the current price! This is the simplest synthesis possible!!! Set this up in ANY synth in just 1 minute:

- square wave

- filter

- filter modulated by envelope (very fast decay)

No, the 303 has a very special sound, mainly because of the following:

-The accent modulates the volume (as on any other synth), but ALSO the cutoff frequency and the resonance.

-The low-pass filter is a 3-pole filter (which means that it attenuates 3 decibel per octave), where most other synths uses a 2-, 4-, 12- or even 24-pole filter.

-Also, the glide (portamento) is made diffenrently than other synths... Allthough i don't know what exactly makes it sound that different.

the x0xb0x is an almost identical replica of the tb303 that comes in kit form. Re the sound it uses all the same vintage components but has some cool extras/mods so Acid man is indeed correct...
