Good tip...this 'what's using power even though it's not on thing' still confuses me. We recently decided to just unplug all items except for house phones. We then always plug in when and what we need...it does mean the cable TV has to be frequently reinstalled and it means we spend a lot of time plugging in and out things. That said I feel buying another device to make is us greener is also not always the best way to go.

we have cheap power here 4 cents a kwh, and i dont live my parents you fuck, i burn tires and i dump car batteries into lakes and streams on water foul production areas, so suck it
That's a pretty cool piece of kit! If I used a PC instead of a laptop, I'd look into that. Actually, I could probably get one of those for my fiance's desktop. Environmentalism isn't really my motivation, but anything that cuts back on power bills is cool by me. That's why I like CFLs, truth be told. They're cheaper in the long run.
just out of curiosity if i you get electricity from hydro(water power) then doing this would only save you money and not save the environment, right? :S
That is one smart power strip! I have all my electronics hooked up to similar strips that I turn off and unplug when not in use (even if a device is turned off, it still drains stand-by energy if plugged in).
Also, it's great to hear that you're spearheading an environmental awareness movement at work. You rock!
Me too, it would be nice if we had such power strips here, but we don't. And alas, I couldn't do that with my Epson printer/scanner/copier combo. It starts a printing head cleaning routine every time it is turned on, and that wastes a lot of ink, so it has to be in standby to avoid that - otherwise, I'd go bankrupt with ink cartridges!
i think wombbread is just trying to get a rise out of all you guys...
yea ive heard its a good idea to unplug everything when your not using it, especially your tv

tip to save electricity
1-change your computer power supply [most power supply less than 70% efficient buy one with 90% will save you 20-40 watt
that what your printer+cell+speaker use.
2- average lcd monitor consume 60 watt[19-20 inch ]
you can buy 23 inch monitor consume only 31 watt in active mode 0.5 watt in standby
so if you do the upov two you will save 60 watts per hour or
60 X 18 hour per day =1.08 Kwatt per day x 30 day= 32.4kwatt
per monthx12= 388.8 kwatt per year.

But if you're using less power & it is hydro-power, you will then be using less hydro-power. So, still a good thing.

thanks.
