I think Starmen.net should do one more petition - to get Mother 3 on the Nintendo eShop. The Ambassador program hinted that we might get some GBA titles for download, and what better launch title than Mother 3? Plus, they have so many reasons to do it. The glaring thing here is that IT IS ALREADY TRANSLATED FOR THEM. They literally have to do almost nothing to get this out there. Not to mention, if you add a subtle 3D effect in there, what do you get? Mother 3D. I think that's a reasonable goal.

The Mother series is the greatest video game series I've never played. I wish I could have gotten the opportunity to play Earthbound on my dad's old SNES. And I'm not nearly as brazen to try and obtain Mother and Mother 3 from the Internet with my crappy computer. Still love the series.

@ClanOfTheGrayWolf To be fair mother 3 was in the exact same place mother 1 was in for translation mother 1 stopped because of large amounts of hardware, and also American sales of jrpg's were only alright, also the Nintendo was dieing, and for the gba, sure there where more fans and jrpg's were more well respected but this game has many more pages of text that would take about a year to translate to make it as quirky as all the other mothers, and the gba was dead in America, with eyes on nds.

I remember this game back in the 90's, that huge box definitely caught my eye. I only i had bought it instead of only renting. And nintendo's continued stubbornness continues to disappoint!!! Great history, tho! These vids were very BAD ASS!!
hehe, here's a quick anecdote of awesomeness. I was looking around some thrift stores for games to feed my urge to play super nintendo. What you'd normally find was there as in crappy sports games under the NFL or NHL license, but stumbled upon this gem. Now the price nearly made me go into cardiac arrest. It was a whopping 25 cents. So I bought it without thinking twice and put it into my SNES when I got home. And luck have it, the game worked perfectly, score 1 for me.
The vc on the wii has been slacking because nintendo has been lazy about it. to me it shows nintendo is lazy seeing how quickly every mario game was put on it but no other game has gotten the same rush, acting like vc is a fail project because they refuse to put the work into it.
I still want to try Earthbound, myself. I'm actually playing Mother 3 (need to finish it, I'm on Chapter 7, The Seven Needles) and it's a great game. A little wacky and weird at times, but in a good way.

I'm relatively new to the Mother series. Of course I heard about Earthbound when it came out and how good and cool it was. For one I didn't own a SNES and 2 I had no idea where they even sold games at the time. I got the EB rom years later and it just sat there until I finally decided to buckle down and actually finish it. I loved it and I loved Mother 3 which I finished this week. It's really too bad that NOA has had a dismissive attitude toward the series it's great and now I know why.
It's so easy to blame Reggie, guys. But not necessarily accurate.
Whether or not NoA's stance on the series has changed is debatable, but the main reason that even NoJ can't give Mother 2 a VC release is that the people that own the things it references (Beatles songs, Dali's artwork, etc) won't let them. Nintendo wants to change these things so they can at least make a Japanese release, but Itoi refuses to let them change anything.

Excellent video there and I learned a lot from it.
However, with the legal issues surrounding Earthbound, I don't think the fanbase will remain optimistic for long. Sooner or later, fans will get tired of bad Earthbound-related news and give up on the franchise returning in anyway possible. As a result, it could lose it's cult fanbase and the series would fall back again.
We're not clinging to the game hoping for more of it; the series is dead, and everyone knows it. We love the games because of how they change your interaction with the world around you, and hands-down are the most emotional and interactive form of entertainment out there. I don't think about Mother because I really like it, I keep thinking about the series because I can't stop!! And I think the rest of us EB fans feel the same way.
I want Nintendo to release Earthbound on the 3DS in full 3D!! Can you imagine how much more Giygas would be traumatizing? 0_0

@ClanOfTheGrayWolf To be fair mother 3 was in the exact same place mother 1 was in for translation mother 1 stopped because of large amounts of hardware, and also American sales of jrpg's were only alright, also the Nintendo was dieing, and for the gba, sure there where more fans and jrpg's were more well respected but this game has many more pages of text that would take about a year to translate to make it as quirky as all the other mothers, and the gba was dead in America, with eyes on nds.

I remember this game back in the 90's, that huge box definitely caught my eye. I only i had bought it instead of only renting. And nintendo's continued stubbornness continues to disappoint!!! Great history, tho! These vids were very BAD ASS!!

hehe, here's a quick anecdote of awesomeness. I was looking around some thrift stores for games to feed my urge to play super nintendo. What you'd normally find was there as in crappy sports games under the NFL or NHL license, but stumbled upon this gem. Now the price nearly made me go into cardiac arrest. It was a whopping 25 cents. So I bought it without thinking twice and put it into my SNES when I got home. And luck have it, the game worked perfectly, score 1 for me.

The vc on the wii has been slacking because nintendo has been lazy about it. to me it shows nintendo is lazy seeing how quickly every mario game was put on it but no other game has gotten the same rush, acting like vc is a fail project because they refuse to put the work into it.

I still want to try Earthbound, myself. I'm actually playing Mother 3 (need to finish it, I'm on Chapter 7, The Seven Needles) and it's a great game. A little wacky and weird at times, but in a good way.
Nice review of the series, I'm about to watch the actual Earthbound review. Good job!

I have to say, this was a very well-put together review. Why you don't have more views really doesn't make sense. I'm an RPG fan, but I've never played Earthbound. Though I am being prodded by a buddy to play it, I am considering it more than I was before. Again, props on the fantastic retrospective.

I think nintendo could easily release Mother on DS. If 3rd parties can release absolute BULLSHIT that sell 1 copy as a last minute gift, an excelent, beautiful game can be released to an enormous fanbase who would thank nintendo insanely much. I'm relatively new to the Mother series. Of course I heard about Earthbound when it came out and how good and cool it was. For one I didn't own a SNES and 2 I had no idea where they even sold games at the time. I got the EB rom years later and it just sat there until I finally decided to buckle down and actually finish it. I loved it and I loved Mother 3 which I finished this week. It's really too bad that NOA has had a dismissive attitude toward the series it's great and now I know why.

It's so easy to blame Reggie, guys. But not necessarily accurate.
Whether or not NoA's stance on the series has changed is debatable, but the main reason that even NoJ can't give Mother 2 a VC release is that the people that own the things it references (Beatles songs, Dali's artwork, etc) won't let them. Nintendo wants to change these things so they can at least make a Japanese release, but Itoi refuses to let them change anything.

Excellent video there and I learned a lot from it.
However, with the legal issues surrounding Earthbound, I don't think the fanbase will remain optimistic for long. Sooner or later, fans will get tired of bad Earthbound-related news and give up on the franchise returning in anyway possible. As a result, it could lose it's cult fanbase and the series would fall back again.

We're not clinging to the game hoping for more of it; the series is dead, and everyone knows it. We love the games because of how they change your interaction with the world around you, and hands-down are the most emotional and interactive form of entertainment out there. I don't think about Mother because I really like it, I keep thinking about the series because I can't stop!! And I think the rest of us EB fans feel the same way.
