You'll notice, in the faded end credits "Jerry Maren" -- who was the main Lollipop Guild members from the Wizard of Oz. Jerry worked quite a bit in films and TV -- and was, at least on the West Coast of the USA Oscar Myer of Oscar Meyer Wieners fame. Another actress appeared in the adventure sequences on Andy's Gang -- it was June Foray -- voice of Rocky the Squirrel and tons of other Jay Ward cartoon characters -- as well as the voice of countless other cartoon voices. ...Rowby
I remember Mr. Devine's advice 'Don't forget church or Sunday school'. In your humble opinion, how many people know of that mantra in these days and times?
Surreal indeed. The show was better than the pablum kid shows to come. Even as a 4-yr old, i knew it was *out there* for the tight-ass fifties. I miss Midnight, Froggie, Farfel the dog, Squeaky et al.
Thanks. Yes, I fondly remember Farfel in the Nestle's commercials; his lower jaw always snapped shut w/ a woody sound at the end of "Chock...Lit." Always wondered about the inspiration for his name.
I used to have a rubber froggie gremlin - when you squeezed his stomach he stuck is tongue out. For some reason - I would beat him up. Watching these clips now - I think I understand why. What weird stuff!
Most bizarre show ever on TV. When I saw it as a kid, it felt like a nightmare. I saw it when the first host was on too. A weird wrinkled old man with a perverted gleam in his eyes. It has stuck in my mind, and will be there forever, tormenting me from time to time as I remember it.
This was one weird TV show for kids. How did they get the animals to do the stunts? They must have stapled that chicken's feet to the floor. Same with Midnight the cat...
they got the animals to do these stunts by hypnotic threatentorical measures-basically they wired the outputs of the larger member of the Crest pro series of power amplifiers to various body parts of the respective animals.
Midnight the cat had the speaker outputs of a Crest 10001 (bridged in mono)wired to its back paws, a microphone fed a mixer then finally the input of the very powerful Crest amplifier.
Andy would talk into the mic in his scratchy voice which would fry Midnights paws off.
Froggy the gremlin is the only thing that could not only destroy the Cloverfield monster but would do so in such a way that 11 year olds would pee their pants with laughter.
Wow....that's all I have to say. That and I am in the weird neighbourhood of YouTube again.

Interesting thing for an alcoholic and animal torturer to tell OTHERS to go to church!

Excuse me, Farfel was the Spokesdog for Nestle's with Jimmy Nelson. unless you are talking about many other icons of popular culture.
N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestle's make the very best... CHOCOLATE (or CHOCK-LIT, as Mr. Farfel would say.).

Indeed, according to Craig Nelson (not Craig T. Nelson, mind you) in his book Bad TV, this show was the pinnacle of kiddie surrealism in the '50s.
That, and according to fans, Froggy is the Antichrist. ;)
