Hi, think of a virtual machine just like another machine sitting next to you, and its connected with your own computer via a network. The only way for one machine to get the virus from another is through that network. Not impossible but not usual. Also if the client is linux as in my example, well linux cant get viruses in the first place!
Hello, well if you have a firewall (even the windows one) and an antivirus on the virtual machine, and of course on your physical machine then you are protected. For Linux, you dont need protection because its immune to viruses. You can of course disable the virtual network adaptor and then the virtual machine is 100% isolated from the HOST operating system. In this case there is no way for the virtual machine to infect your real machine. People use Virtual machines to test antivirus!! programs!
