  • You entered another dimension, just saying.

  • Pretty cool video

  • Cool!

  • Watch this video with "Centipede" by Strapping Young Lad playing in the background...Thank me later.

  • holy SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuooooooooooah

  • Reminds me of the movie Limitless

  • 14 people got motion sickness and now need a new keyboard

  • I wonder if a GoPro camera could be spun at this rate to make a 360 video.

  • Thats how it looked when my big brother spun me on the Sit & Spin when I was just a wee pup.

  • That's totally math.

  • dont do drugs.

  • Real-world Super Mario Bros background? It is a struggle to reconcile my desire to watch this incredibly visually compelling video with my compulsive need to look away to avoid nausea. My brain does not know what to make of what it is seeing, but my mind keeps trying to overlay a Cartesian plane on top of the image and revisit my trig class in HS. Observing an otherwise flat horizon turn into a sine wave (and then other trigonometric lines) is apparently more than I can comfortably handle.

  • sink this with hey you by pink floyd. MIND BLOWN

  • what if one watches this while high.....oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaa

  • Man I was imagine it's the wing of an airplane instead, pretty messed up.

  • i like the part where it rotates

  • Trippiest video i have seen in a while.

  • @Blobstor

Then you haven't recently seen Timothy Leary's How to Operate Your Brain

  • Fantastic Film Period! There are so many things going on here it defies comprehension. Wonderful!

    Thanks for posting,

    Orbmanelson

  • i threw up a little watching this

  • it makes me feel like throwing up

  • really creative idea that came out great! looks like the panorama shot you achieved covers about 180 degrees or so since it's the same shot repeating itself over and over, but the shot changing as the aircraft changes its direction... wonder if you could slow the frame rate or whatever down enough to create one fluid 360 degree panorama, or does that not make any sense? lol

  • I don't need drugs anymore ! :D

  • Screw LSD. Wear 3D goggles displaying this video and you're good to go!

  • You sick bastard! This is cool!

  • omg I should have waited with drinking my damn magic mushrooms, I really wanted to see what the video was about..... >.<

  • COOL;-P

  • next time put a person on that rotorhead

  • oh...completely lost my mind....THAT BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • tiny wings: The New Frontier

  • Insane!

  • Looks like my old TV

  • This is giving me such a headace..!

  • I'm so gonna tell my friend to watch this when he's high :D

  • I feel like I'm on shrooms

  • did anyone else spot leo at 2:48 ?

  • Now i know how superman feels.

  • okay so here's the deal i took LSD while watching this, and....i shouldnt have done that!

  • Was it just me or did it feel like a horrorflick when he landed and walked slowly closer to the cam and then suddenly dissapeared for a while xD?

  • TRIPPY AS JESUS FUCK

  • 808#3 EVERYWHERE

  • Fuck, I'm too high for this.

  • @ForminaSage402 Mute it and put some chill music on like Bonobo or something 8) It's a lot safer then

  • triiiiiiiiiiiiiippppppppppyyyyyyyyyyy

  • this is so cool!

  • Look's like the cover of a Pink Floyd album

  • So that's what it's like to be high.. no pun intended lol

  • What have these mushrooms all done with my mind?

  • this is exactly what I see when I travel through time

  • Camera at 4:34 bluurrghhhhblewwaaaaaphuuurrrrrlllll

  • Now i am so dizzy

  • Thats amazing.

The rotors are spinning SO fast that the camera shutter is actually too slow to capture it so it looks like its not moving at all.

  • nice!!!!

  • Is this what it feels like to take acid?

  • views earned

  • during stable flight, the amount of horizons you see in one second is the difference of the frequency of the camera versus the rpsec of the blade (it should be rounded off in thousandths of a sec i believe). you can also tell when there is a load (ascending, descending) if the horizons pan left or right. nice video. if i didnt explain this right, please correct me.

  • They've gone to plaid!

  • O.O i see dead people..!

  • And as we can see, the rotor doesn't spin as fast as it seems to be.

  • i feel sick

  • sick backflip mate.

  • stop the blades, I want to get off.

  • Anyone else think of Tiny Wings?

  • This is why Physics isn't the pussy major.

  • @Theeriuth Does that mean physics students don't get or are not pussies?

  • I watched every second of that.

  • Who's dividing by zero?

mguw, I'm looking at you, here...

  • woah... mushroom are coooool.

  • 吃了迷幻藥

  • Whoa Whoa..am i on acid?

  • Comment removed

  • @fthirud

No, it is just that in forward flight the helicopter is leaning forward and thus the camera sees alternatively sky and earth because of slight asynchronism

  • @fthirud yeah u idiot

  • @fthirud trying to be smart FAIL

  • @fthirud The distortion is mostlikely also because many digital cameras use a rolling shutter, which means it doesnt capture the whole frame at the same time.

  • Reminds me when I'm drunk.

  • *poker face*

  • Uhmm. so imma tard. What is going on in this video? i need an explanation

  • @CehLops The camera captures, lets say, 50 frames per second. If the rotor spins 50 times per second, then the camera will be in approximately the same place each time it captures a frame. The speed of the rotor varies slightly which gives the distorted effect.

  • Giygas.

  • this looks like the 4th dimension!

  • すげえ・・・

  • I did not expect that

  • I love LSD.

    So does he.

  • 7 comments have been posted in 2010, the 400 others have been posted between yesterday and now.

  • @TCosvalt Maybe for Google+, I came from there.

  • Time 13:37, coincidence ? I don't think so...

  • fuck...

  • Надо завязывать с наркотой...

  • It would be interesting to see a PIP, with the videos synched, showing the helo from a camera on the ground, or mounted on the tail or somthing, to not have to do mental gymnastics to figure out what it is doing when things change in the rotorcam.

  • Drugs would make this even better.

  • Holy crap this is how it feels to have vertigo. o_O

  • This is brilliant. You have given us a whole new perspective to see the world ;)

  • are you drugs?

  • Wow incredible to see the blade working!!! Thank you so much for this vid. I will keep it!!

  • Tip: If you watch this video while on shrooms, it looks like an ordinary helicopter ride.

  • such an interesting and unique video, yet the 2 highest comments are just plain retarded, average youtube comments.

  • My brain hurts now.

  • I just peaked

  • crazy example about aliasing.

  • i've been doing similar things with a mini wireless camera - but the motot i have won't match the camera's scan rate in quite the same way. this is beautiful - nice work!

  • that should read 'motor', of course..

  • @StookieBill It's actually rotor.

  • @Dirf119 - ah no. you misunderstand me. i'm just attaching my camera to a motor spindle in my workshop, not an RC helicopter!

  • @StookieBill Ah, my bad.

  • This is what my vision looks like on a heroic dose of LSD

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • that is amazing

  • AWESOME

  • This is what carousels should be like.

  • Why does the camera do now-sky-up-now-sky-down thing?

  • TINY WINGS <3

  • I"M A JAILBRAEKER!!!

  • and THAT ladies and gentlemen is how you bend space and time :D

  • omfg, it's like a Roger Dean painting. I'd lose the rotor noise and use Yes' "Perpetual Change" as the soundtrack. Awesome!

  • omfg, it's like a Roger Dean painting.

  • This made me seasick!

  • Mind blowing. sine, cosine, and tangent functions everywhere. This is why I love math :)

  • So what you're telling me is, If I spin something fast enough it will make it seem as if everything was still?

  • @gamehead91 If you spin everything around you fast enough in a constant circular path with you at the centre, it will seem as if everything is still. or similarly if everything is stationary and you spin fast enough. like how the rotation of wheels on fast enough cars seem to not revolve(im not refering to those gansta tricked out spinning rims)

  • @gamehead91 Only if your visual capacity matches your speed, as in one "frame" per rotation.

  • This is exactly what Acid was like for me holy shit, crazy stuff

  • we can travel through time.

  • thumbs up if wimp.com sent you here

  • The real world, but in wavelength form. Very, very bizarre.

  • Brutal!

  • Great to see that optical effect from the other perspective.

  • That is so cool. It would be interesting to see other synchronized cams, like from the tail and/or from the ground, to see what maneuvers are being done.

  • If you know math and you know tigonometry and such, you can se that it creates a sinus-curve, Why?, lovely mathematics ofcourse!

  • Oh gee, look at the time.

  • Needs Sigur Ros in the background. Awesome vid.

  • I think the camera was tripping on acid

  • WTF? XD

  • 'Schoolies vision enabled'

  • like, wow scoob!

  • it feels like im going back in time....

  • How did you attach it to the rotor hub?

  • bestial!!!

  • Wow, looks a lot like that fucked up bit in 2001.

  • you should put it right at the end of the blade so there's no obstructions, and then make a big mount to hold the helicopter in place (and maybe use a counter weight on the other side?) and yea....film like you normally would so you'd have control over what its viewing kind of thing?

  • @fruitflyproductions Uh no. It is more interesting as it is to give the warping of the blade as a reference to understand the warping of the image as a result. Fascinating and thumbs up if you think gizmodo is a Jewish run NeoNazi website.

  • Oh right, rolling shutter, I get it. Seriously awesome.

  • I don't understand what I'm seeing - can someone explain the distortions?

  • @sasquash12 cheaper / smaller digital cameras mostly use whats called a "rolling shutter". It basically scans the image as you take it, wich means the frames / pictures are actually recorded (although very fast ) rather than the whole image captured at once. An example of a rolling shutter camera is for example your cell phone. Hence the weird distortions when you take pictures of fast moving objects / move the camera fast.

  • it's 1337 time 0:43 !!

  • aww that is neat!

  • This is brilliant! You rock!

  • I vomited on my keyboard. Thanks.

  • trippy

  • Check the date and the hour, 13.37 seriously?

  • @ingeniari

    That's 1:37.

  • I feel like I just watched The Ring.

  • спасибо, порыгал....

  • Explains how cameras fall from sky now, lol....

  • Trippy.

  • AWESOME!

  • WHAT THE FUUUUCCCK

  • seriously cool and clever.

  • @GlitchesofWar wow, it sounds like you really know what you are talking about :D

  • So regarding this "rolling shutter effect", I had an observation. When the sine wave's amplitude peaks, the distortion in the middle of the wave looks like there is a higher pixel density representing a smaller geographical area of the scenery? I wonder if that's just a illusion?

  • So this is what being on LSD looks like.

  • I see you've invented a new horror camera shot. Congrats.

  • you're amazing mate!

  • this camera must have a VERY fast shutter speed

  • -losses lunch- probably not the best thing to watch drunk

  • Holy heck!!!

    That's awesome!!!

  • I have a hangover and this just made it a lot worse...

  • @sh1znack Oh my. I feel wrecked aswell. The moment shit went wobbly I had to run to the toilet.

  • @sh1znack me also, i had to turn it off

  • The distortion is due entirely to something called the "rolling shutter effect". Google it for the wikipedia entry, if you are curious.

  • Slender Man? Is that you?

  • Anyone notice the horizon looks like a sine wave? Probably has to do with how the rotors cyclically oscillate to steer, but I'm sure something useful could come of it.
