@lonniebhodge Surprisingly enough, its not a police state constantly hit with geological disasters and plagued by ethnic/labor riots. No, America's about 10000 times better than China. Have you ever licked hot chocolate from Santa's beard? That's America.
Lonnie: The Capital was once known to the West as Canton because the British created and promulgated that name, but the Chinese have ALWAYS called it Guangzhou!
@lonniebhodge: It may have been known as "Canton" for the west but in the Wade-Giles spelling (before the adaptation of pinyin) it was known BY THE CHINESE as "Kwangchow" and that "cantonese" was known (as has always been) BY THE CHINESE as "kwangtung hua".
"Canton" was NEVER used by the "cantonese" speakers when referring to the city Chinese/"cantonese".
@lukebccb I hardly ever use the word hate, but I hate Wade-Giles (two British) - their system is NOT phonetic. What the crap is tsim-tsa-tsui, or kow-loon? Native Chinese never said kw@ng-chow, kw@ng-tung, or c@n-ton!
The problem with the city being called Canton, is that the province is also called Canton. However in Chinese, the city is called Guangzhou, while the province is called Guangdong. There is no confusion.
But Guangzhou is a Cantonese city. So if you want to call it by it's real original name, so you must say: "Gongzau". Like Hong Kong is not Hong Kong but "Heonggong". I always find their original names in Cantonese much more better.
you lived in guangzhou?...how is it living there cuz i love the chinese culture and all n im thiking of just moving there for like a year or something just to experience life there ...
I have been living in Guangzhou for more than 25 years. I think it is good place, the best Chinese food in the world, lots of shopping malls, clubs, bars, excellent public transporation system. Bascially Guangzhou is a 24x7 running city. But it also depends what kind of life you like..
well i like the city life i like being a place where its alive at the sametime also have a place near by or that its also a bit calm when im in da mood for that type i can just go dere. so i like both types of life styles...
Hahaha, I wasn't saying that. Chinese people are always doing exercise. Old Chinese people love doing Tai Ji. When I go to Beijing I ALWAYS saw old people in parks and stuff doing it. Hahaha.
You should probably mention that this is for the 2010 Asian Games. Otherwise people are gonna think that GZ is an entire city based off of exercise and paddling canoes through a river.
ha....Ya, this video is actually about 2 years old now...It was done for the 2010 games and well done at that...
Actually, these days I see a lot of folks out of my window (I overlook the river) doing Tai Chi, Biking, Running and son on....LOTS of seniors are there doing a LOT more exercise than me ;-)
Thanks... the Guangzhou Tourism Board will be very happy!!!!
We will be doing an expose of Guangdong on the site: blogofdreams com within the next two weeks and will post more videos here on YouTube and on the blog of dreams
Today was gorgeous...There have been many nice days this summer--hotter than the hubs of Hades, but you can see the sky....I just returned from a coupe of other large cities in China and prefer it here...
Don't want to burst your bubble but these tourist films are digitally altered to look that way. In reality Guangzhou is a nice place but it's a bustling Chinese metropolis with lots of traffic and pollution. There are some beautiful spots like Shamian Island.
dang dood 100 dam tell him good luck and happy bday LOLL my bday in dec too lol i be laughin if his bday dec 11 LOLL but yea i goin bak thix summer but yea tell her granpa happy bday =DDDDD
Lol... when have I ever seen blue sky and clouds in Guangzhou??? answer: NEVER! Other than that, I love Guangzhou... great food and it's nice to be surrounded by native Cantonese speakers!
