Frasier is just simply a god awful chess player. It's one thing if you cant develop your pieces efficiently, or know the progression of moves like the pros do. But if you are one move away from being checkmated and you cant see it, you are worse than a beginner player. Somehow he played chess by mail with a russian grandmaster for 8 months in an earlier episode. Did they make one move per month and it only took the russian guy 8 moves to beat him? lol

He knew that even if he won 5 grand that Frasier would have kept harassing him to play, so he made that accidental move and kept looking at it so Frasier would see it and beat him.

@anye76 Actually I checked out your question about Daphnie's room and the hallway (because I have nothing better to do, apparently) and if you pay REALLY close attention, you'll notice that to the right of Frasier's door is a large painting, which is the same painting you can see from the living room when the camera pans past that hallway. Meaning its implied that Daphne ran from her room in the other hall, through the living room, and into the opposite hall, not out of a different bedroom.

Even though it looks like Daphne came from out a room, she was actually walking into the hall from the living room (having presumably left her room in its separate hallway and run across while the alarm was going off). You can see that she walks in from around a corner right next to a large painting on the left wall. That same painting can be seen in certain shots from the living room because that is the connection to the hall.
