  • Story goes, some Chicago-based radio DJ played this one at a too-fast RPM, and inadvertently started the entire thing that became techno. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true...

  • @Floffonlajn story is partially true. this happened at the legendary Boccaccio nightclub in Destelbergen, Belgium, by DJ Marc Grouls. New Beat was born...

  • in fact, there are 2 musical generations responding here... and they're both right :-)

this track has had 2 lives: one in this original version as EBM, and a second life as an early start of New Beat, played at 33 1/3 rpm (+8)

  • perfection...not long enough

  • 1 turntable, 1 record and play in stead off 45 rpm on 33 rpm +8pitch, thatt's how it was played in belgian disco's in the late 80's early 90's

  • Wow this is a classic... brings back memories

  • holy fuck... this is awesome!! any other artists that sound like this?

They went to clubs like CLUB 6400 and Rich's

  • OOOOO,to fast,!!!!!!!

  • these guys were destined to be great, but after firewalker, keyboard-production wizard Chrismar Chayell called it quits, and Mark Icks the other half of the group continued with A Split Second with 2 more offerings: Vengeance COD (rate it good) & the amazingly awful Megabyte (please never use a sampled metal guitar it sounds horrible)

  • Belgium is a music super power!!!!!!!!!!

  • what makes you say that,

i thought that it was UK and US which controlled the market

  • @Galacticmaster

well it used to be like that 15-20 years ago. he's living in the past ;-)

but hey, we're still standing strong nowadays

  • @Galacticmaster they do now, true.. and all they do is sampling and copying from the originals that came from Europe (Belgium, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy...) in the 80's ...

  • i love this song!!!!!!

  • is this origial song with official vid? is there any versions exactly like this but longer?

  • This is the original and don't think there's one that's longer. If you don't count the 33 accident...

  • Great... It's almost "Sisters of Mercy" Lucretia -like. :P

  • A Split Second has more in common with Public Relations or Section 25 than Sisters of Mercy. Although they do adopt some of the latter's visual style for this video.

  • i loveeeeeee

  • wollt ihr kotzen ?

Ich hab von dem Track noch das ORIGINAL VINYL hier stehen :)

Aber in Fakt: einer der geilsten Tracks zu der Zeit!

  • MrMint: play it at 33 rpm +8 and you have the first New Beat song!

  • Nope that was Brilliant from Boytronic.

  • boooooooo

  • mola mucho!!!!

  • wicked track but it's inf played too fast, slow it down

  • I have had this melody stuck in my head for YEARS, and I finally found who did it. Heard it remixed on Evil Acid Barons video from 1988, it used this melody in one of its transitions.

  • clasico clasico clasico para la posteridad.

  • The relation between New-Beat and this track is the following (from wikipedia):

Legend has it that the Belgian New Beat genre was invented in the nightclub Boccaccio in Destelbergen near Ghent when DJ Marc Grouls played a 45rpm Electronic Body Music (EBM) record at 33rpm, with the pitch control set to +8. The track in question was Flesh by A Split-Second.

  • awesome never knew there was a video!!!

  • This is not new beat

    it's ELECTRONIC BODY MUSIC

Big difference: EMB was great dark music

New beat was in most cases total crap

  • Couldn't agree more.

God, I feel old now :-)

  • splendid!:)

  • wow , i used to take the number 11 lincoln ave. bus to wax trax and buy some of the best music ever made.oh the 80s !!

  • original of the very first new beat record

  • very good acid sound. I like that.

  • I love the atmosphere. Hypnotic tune.

  • The dj played the maxi on 33 instead of 45 : the crowd liked it and here in Belgium it was the beginning of "new beat"

  • I think this version is a real improvement compared to the 1986 version...

  • this used to be played alot slower.. almost on 33...

  • probably because this is the updated more housetype version ?

  • the "updated" version was the slowed down -33rpm- track

  • this is the original 45rpm track

  • hola, vendo este vinilo, el q lo quiera q me mande un email
