2) this was actually really important to get out because of the censorship on media. people outside of Iran have little knowledge of what's actually going on there, and this showed them.
Trust me, I spent 10 weeks in Iran (got there on election day, actually), and you barely have access to anything once things get chaotic (ie. phone, internet, satellite)

But freedom didn't follow his assassination, repression did. The Communists fed on the repression.
Even a hint of American help to the Iranian movement would doom the uprising. It would be counterproductive.
