@dinosauravenger1989 hahah go ahead and do one... i spoke about it for what... 10 seconds? In fairness you did tell me first... you beat every single other source of my wrestling news by a few mins. good old DVDVR forums however has essentially exhausted by interest in it however until more info comes out.
How readily accepted were the gaikokujin in the 80s/90s (by crowd, management and fellow workers) at a time when technology didn’t allow easy familiarity with difference countries/cultures? It seems to me that with the high standards of top guys that AJPW ran with for long stretches of time, the only guys left to put in main event slots that were satisfactorily over were gaikokujin who could get over by being promoted as outsiders from strange faraway lands. Any truth to that theory?
@amcn1 The crowd loved the foreigners particularly in the 90s when the influence of Johnny Ace behind the scenes enabled some of the imports to play face roles rather than just big evil guy from far away. The management of course supported all this, but I have no idea how the other wrestlers reacted to guys like Gordy, Hansen, Williams and co being right at the tippy-top of the hierarchy. The foreigners did often play foil to the more popular natives (Kikuchi's a great eg) to keep things fresh.
@seancarletonzero I think it's fair to say that regardless of who is better between Danielson and KENTA, that the great Inoue Masao is better than both of them put together. O the glory of Inoue shtick.
So glad I found your chaneel IP, someone with actual knowledge of Puroresu. Hey I don't know if you can answer this but I've been looking for ages for NJPW ratings in Japan, and I can't find them anywhere, no one seems to know. Do you know where I could find them?
@MattMystrieo I dont think anyone really knows the ratings of Japanese TV shows. I certainly don't! You can get a good idea by it's time-slot. Anything on a midnight slot (like wrestling) is probably doing less than 5.0
Ichi, would you say it was Inoki's looking into MMA and MMA-style that hurt some wrestlers and even champions of NJPW in the early 2000's?
Great Great Great Video. Nobody on here can even touch you on Puro knowledge. I know Eric didn't mean to have inaccurate info, but it's great for you to do the check with what you know.
I loved doing that opinions response to you, great exchange of thought on the YWC for once.
@DoubleCrossKing "would you say it was Inoki's looking into MMA and MMA-style that hurt some wrestlers and even champions of NJPW in the early 2000's?" In part, yes. Some guys like Fujita and Shibata could have been pro wrestling gods.. but most of the MMA-inspired dicking around from Inoki hurt the promotion severely.
Wow. You deserve a big thank you for doing this video. I really appriciate you correcting me and also agreeing with me on points that I made in those videos. Maybe you could make similar ones about other Japanese promotions?
I heard some very minor rumors about that split as well. I really hope it doesnt happen becuase NOAH is my favorite Japanese company.
You hear that New Japan is running shows in the U.S. next year? Im going to try my hardest to go.
@HonorHammer26 You're welcome! The split rumours remain exactly that at the moment - rumours. I'll make another vid on it if anything more concrete comes up.
NJPW in the USA is nice... but I want NJPW in the UK! :p I missed NOAH when they were here :(
@IchibanPuroresu I wish NOAH guys would come to the U.S. more often now the ROH has stopped using them for the moment. Ive seen most of the Dragon Gate guys live because I went to a DGUSA show. But the crown jewel of them all was seeing Manami Toyota live about a month ago. Im very grateful for that
@KDaltonIrish I watch some. I watch all the Dream shows, and some of the UFC, Belator and Strikeforce stuff depending on who is on the card. MMA has kinda evolved to the point that I no longer enjoy it all that much. The 90s and Pride stuff entertained me much more. I'm now starting to really get into submission wrestling (ADCC and the other smaller tournaments) which I find much more exciting. Ironically, when pro-wrestling was cool I was into MMA. Now mma is cool im into pro-wrestling. lol
@IchibanPuroresu I like the ADCC its a treat to watch because of how masterful some of the guys are like Marcelo Garcia who is my favorite grappler. I pretty have all the pride grand prix on dvd which why I prefer dream. Aoki's comments on the difference between american mma and japanese mma sum it all up for me. Plus I rather the ring to the cage.
@KDaltonIrish We <3 Ring! Marcelo Garcia is just about my favourite BJJ guy. Mostly because he's actually quite catch in the way he goes about the no-gi stuff. Lots of foot control and he's less keen to just pull guard.
I told him Saito was still doing the back drop, he insisted he uses a different version of it...

Great video, Ichiban!
I don't think KENTA is the best in the world, Danielson was better.
All Japan Pro Wrestling in the 90's = Best wrestling promotion ever.
I believe that Shiozaki is now by far the best Heavy in NOAH, and top 5 in Japan.
