ppl always wanna get into the "HIP HOP IN WEIRD TIME SIGNATURES" game but nobody ever mentions this shit
this song is two bars of 4/4 followed by a bar of 7/4 every single time the beat comes around, it's a 15-beat bar instead of 16, and that's why the verses flow into each other so smoothly
this beat has a strange time signature. You have to catch when it comes back around abruptly because it ends with two kicks and instead of kick and a snare. Illy for really and never the mili vanilli.
cant believe how much this track can still bang till today. its real hip hop at its best. q tip and BT.. listen to them drums.. those keys ... just everything.. one of the best albums ever.. who needs dr dre lol
@TairyHesticles Since I respect you a lot for putting up all of these Roots songs (I actually got to know their records about 1,5 years ago because of your vids as I started to explore youtube searching for good music) I'd like to know which album you think is even better than this one, cause from what I have heard this could easily make my top 5 if it isn't my number 1 album of all time. Peace!
@IceKr3aMm I have to say I liked Things Fall Apart and Do You Want More, but I didn't love them. I absolutely love Illadelph Halflife. I think it's a masterpiece. Amazing lyricism, great smoove sound and so much substance. I've listened to all the all-time great albums in rap history. I know a lot of experts might not agree with me, but I truely have this being in my top 10 rap albums of all time. If not in the top 10, just outside. Amazing album!
is this the only track abstract and thought ever did a track together? They just seem to be to skilled to be separated. This is just an unreal display of lyricism even the wackest rhyme rapes the shit out of anybody new I've heard.
@dhunter888 The Roots and Q-Tip did a whole tour in 2010 together that was sponsored by Hennessy, if I remember correctly. I remember seeing the poster of Tip with ?uestlove and Black Thought together promoting the tour.
They're pretty big now. I just saw their new CD under the "top sellers" rack at Best Buy.
At least they didn't sell out though. The Roots are one of the only groups to go mainstream (which they pretty much are at this point) and still make good music.
Sure, they will never make another "Do You Want More?!!!??!" or "Illadelph Halflife" but the shit they make now is still worth the $15.
Q-tip and Black though compliment each other so fucking well. blows my mind
