  • I want this to be my first car hopefully.

  • lol every bmw is the ultimate driving machine - what rubbish

  • It seems some people posting here do not understand about cars. Size of a 7 series do not mean that is a better car than a 1 series. For me big cars are more associated with old and people who need room (usually fat people or people doing business, traveling, etc). I like smaller cars because the proportion looks nicer and cleaner. The 1 series is the only freaking BMW car that I could consider just because of its proportion. I do not like any other BMW. I would buy a Tesla model S instead.

  • high 30's for a suped up miata w/ bmw badges! going with G35 instead.

  • I saw one of these on the road and I seriously thought it was a Hyundai Elantra with a BMW badge on it.

  • God, why stupid graphics? Spare US! Please!

That music to intro 1-series in the US shows who the audience is.

The car is fantastic! I wish it were more angular top, too round at the top.

  • Gorgeous little car. Drove one of these today as well as a 3 series. The 3 has gone a little heftier. It's as big as my old '89 5-series. The 3 will continue to have the bigger market segment; a sports sedan for the young man with a wife and couple of kids, it's great. But the 1-series felt tighter and more responsive. It harkens back to the old 2002 of the '70s. It's a quick little coupe, fun to drive and built like a swiss watch. Great car for the college grad with a nice job. Not bad.

  • Rims are for beaners. if u driving a BMW stock rims are good enough. rather save the money for a nice sound system

  • BMW make different type of models(size) vehicle for a reason. If you're a big fat motherfucker then stay with the 7series or if you just can't get a M3 then go with 3series, and PLEASE!!! don't throw some BUTT ugly aftermarket tail-light or try to painted smoke looking. I think the 1 series look awesome

  • 1 Series are nice!! But I still go for e30 or e46! Especially e46 CSL versions cough cough ahahha! Im a big fella soo I need a lot of room! And I love E46 M3 Shape.. they are truly orgasm toys ;)

  • My sister just bought that car, she rides like a beauty! =)

  • ye she does

    hahahaha

    =P

  • That was a rather mild lukewarm applause. BMW styling is soo predictable. Blah blah blah.

  • Yeah, notice there were no camera flashes when it was uncovered. I think BMW screwed it up. Too heavy and over-priced.

  • LOL. what do you drive ultaviolent? I drive a 2008 335i series; the 1 series is like the 3; i'd prefer it over the 3 because it's smaller.

  • the reason that 1 series debute is because BMW needs to develope a car that can replace the size of old 3. As the current 3 series keeps evolving and growing, soon, 3 will lose its agility as the old 3 and it will ultimately become size of 5 series. 1 series will become what everyone has in mind of ultimate drive.

  • Problem with your argument is the 1 series is not "trashy". It's basically the same engines and features as the 3 series in a lighter car, offering more speed and efficiency at the expense of space. The price diff is not that much (< 15%). A better real estate analogy would be a really nicely designed compact energy-efficient urban home by the same company that builds suburban McMansions. Different markets.

  • And I what I am saying is unlike a neighborhood, a BMW series 1 is not comparable to a series 7. The notion that a good value-for-the-money series 1 will reduce the "perceived" value (or "status" value) of a series 7 is not logical as the 2 cannot be compared - they are not in the same league. I understand what you saying but it just doesn't happen. By the way, I think you meant "maybe you're feeble minded"

  • jumping consumer markets is never a bad thing. Honda has been trying to access upscale customers for years, while VW and BMW have constantly introduced new models to appeal smaller budgets (Cooper S and the Smart car for example). Also comparing houses (which is an equity equivalent and an INVESTMENT) and the housing which has been increasing over time and a used car that ALWAYS depreciates overtime unless it is a vintage. Comparing an investment market to a depreciating good is, well, idiotic.

  • Smart car is made by Merc.

  • ur retarded...you think 35,000 is a lil money for a car? what an idiot. they are trying to build a following. get a 35+ car then in ten yrs wehn ur worth more get the 5 series/3 series. grow up. thats how it works.

  • a great engine, good creature comforts and excellent value for the money. I fail to see where this excellent automobile "devalues the people who shell out 75k for a 745". this car still lives up to the name of BMW and is even cheaper than some cars of its class. Since when a great car has to be expensive so it can be considered good? This whole car=status thing going on completely baffles me.

  • Yeah, I agree with 'xranger', if u are big and tall, just,,, just dont buy it... 1 series make u feel like sit in a shoe box.

  • Dont understand why American and Asian like saloon, HatchBack looks much better...

  • The 1-series' performance is amazing, but its just a goofy-looking car. From a side-profile, it looks almost like a Toyota Echo. The rear window comes down too hard, which is why the drag coefficient is horrible on this car at .33 cd. BMW really needs to make the roofline more sleek.

  • Over 29K? Are they joking? An A4 costs less...

  • @LiuDian A4 dont have 300tq/300hp! :)

  • i'm 6'2", and have you been in a 1 series? I'm assuming that's a big no.

Caranddriver just did an article on the 135i. They got 0-60 in 4.7 secs. A quote from them:

"Aside from being slightly louder, driving the 135i is much like driving a 3-series. From behind the wheel in the spacious front seat—where there's plenty of headroom—the driver isn't aware of the 1-series' shrunken size."

  • Actually, I'm 6'2", and I fit in a 1-Series.

  • u driven the 1 series before?

135i has the same engine as the 335i and uses parts from the e46 M3.

It's smaller and lighter. Now why would anyone that knows anything about cars get a 3 series?

  • I dont know man.... I still go for e46 aye.. dont get me wrong 1 series is nice.. But I love e46 CSL versions.. they just soo god dam SEXY ;) and dont 4 for get e30 m3 damn i wish i had one -.-

  • I don't get BMW'S pricing. Nice car though.

  • BMW 1 series i dont think so,it just teplace the 318i and the price with tax 38k

  • Cheap production factory in Japan? Germany makes great quality cars, but every Japanese car I've had has lasted just as long. They are geniuses and masters of technology and building.

Never had any problem with a Japanese car, ever. Grow up cunt.

  • u guyz dun get it??maybe they wanted to do a cheap and a convertible car for ppl who is not that rich and really wants to own a bmw and a convertible car..like me!!

  • BMW = Big Money Waster

great performing cars if you can afford them including the upkeep, but other than that they are just Big Money Wasters in my humble and honest opinion.

  • not really, my friend bought a fully loaded 08 accord. 31k. Now would i rather get a stock bimmer or a fully loaded accord. Bimmer for me.

  • Honestly it all depends on what you go for, in your country, parts may be cheap if something goes wrong (i'm not really talking about general upkeep), however for those unfortunate people to have to ship parts in, and wait weeks for parts to arrive, it is a complete different story, as theirs shipping costs, custom import costs to add on to to the part, as well as having the labor to install the parts. So long term cost of ownership will be high. As for the 08 Accord, it's in the same position.

  • Thats a very good point! In NZ its soo expensive to fix or to servers BMW... The parts and the labour is just crazy.. BUT I Still LOVE THEM aye.. My favourite E30, and

    e46 M3 ofcours ;)

  • So people don't approve of the BMW 1 series. Hmmm. Did anyone notice the song playing prior to the unveiling? That was incredible!

  • what are you people talking about?? get yourself an M5 and get your wife this lil baby twin-turboed 300HP 1 Series....lol

  • too much money. the 1.28 should start at 24k and the 1.35 should start at 29K. With all do respect for japanese car owners, please dont compare your wannabe cars to any BMW. thanks

  • Wow you just set an all time high level of ignorance. congratulations sir

  • yah... but seriously the car was invented in germany and thats where car production should stay not in some cheap production factory in japan

  • 30k, might as well get its bigger brother, the 3 series which is super kewl....

  • Why spend 35K for the 135 when you can get the 350Z Car with Navigation system and 307HP for less money?

If the driving experience is the reason why this car is being produced, I'll say BMW is off target..Only posers and stupid people will pay 35K for a watered-down bimmer with fake leather and plastic interiors..

  • how is it water downed? it's the same engine as the 335i.

350z? plz, s2000 beats the shit out of that crap

  • Have you driven either of those cars? I've driven both the Z car and the S2000..In fact I own a fully loaded Z..Both cars are of better value for the money than this 135 thing...And it's watered down because it offers the same engine as the 335i but with less amenities..There is no point for making this stupid little car..I will point and laugh when I see you in one...ha!

  • If I were a 335i owner (and think gawd I'm not), I'd be pissed at BMW for making the 135..Why the fuck am I paying 41k for the 335i if you're gonna offer the same engine for 5k less?

  • question: if it has engine same as 335 and almost same price then whats different? why buy 1 series.

  • Price isn't the same. A base 335 starts over $39k, at least 4k difference. The advantage is the 135 is a pure enthusiast driving machine whereas the 335 is more of a luxury-sport GT car.

  • nice car, just don't have so much money for it.

  • all you fuckers shud check out tha perfomance stats of the new 135i, and see how it'll be the best bang for your buck car on the market. That's what BMw stands for. It's not about spending mills 4 a car you drive when youre depressed like Lambos or ferrari. Why do u think BMW dont make any V12's and shit.. coz it's too easy and too expensive for people who appreciate driving as an art...

  • The BMW 760Li is a V12. I do agree with you though... but BMW makes bigger engines than most people know

  • the audi A8 comes in a V12, in case you didn't know. however, it's called a W12. do you know why? what does W stand for?

  • theres also the W16 *wink*

  • oh yea. the bugatti veyron.

  • i agree, the 135i is very tempting. Such a nice looking car too. However, i'm waiting for the M version of the 1 series.

  • M version of the 1 series? damn

  • I don't know why all you guys are knocking BMW. Its very obuvious that none of you guys ever driving one nor afford a new one. Bmw spends more money in R&D on peformance then other car maker. That "big fat peice of shit" 3 series, when your driving 120 miles/hour on the highway you'll be thankful your not driving a corolla.

  • compared to the e46, the current 3 series is junk, it performs well for the size of the car but give me the e46 model any other day of the week. I don't talk shit, i've driven these cars plenty of times.

That being said, the 1 series is what the 3 series coupe should have been.

  • I really agree. New 3 series is still nicer than competition, but E46 was better. 1 series is where BMW spent its research money from the looks of it, excellent car.

  • i think BMW made up for that with the awesome 3series coupe. 335i is stunning,,

  • Aaargh...the Grill, Alloys look so wrong.....

Still ant beat the old 3 series (1985-1990)

  • Fuckin hell...There goes BMW prestigeness down the drain..1ce to many cheap bastards buy this...Its gona b a pain in the eye...

  • prestige? The current 3 series is crap. Big fat piece of shit. I see a lot of 3 series coupe w/ automatic that are driven by women. I'm glad to see the 1 series, this was BMW in its true form.

I don't see your point on the cost. 128 is 30k (same as the e46), 135 starts at 35k. They are still expensive for most people.

  • Not really...30k?...In my opinion. 3 series and under are 4 women. The M3 is sporty for the young male. The 5 series is for families with money and the 7 series is for old CEO's..The X5 is a soccer mum car and the X3 is the smaller version for people who cant afford the X5...The other 1's like the 6 series are for retired people who want a convertable with style...The 1 and 3....just ruins it..

  • i think the 3 series is a good car for guys. also, i think women and cars do not mix lol.

  • youre annoying...shut up. A mix of people drive all BMW vehicles.

  • all cars should be BMW's, the more the merrier.

  • Not really....The next thing u know they will b as useless as toyotas...

  • so cheap for twin turbo BMW 135i for around 35k? wow i know what car i'm getting

  • it's kind of expensive..... i think it should start at 25,000. if they want teenagers to buy it, they should start it at around that MSRP.

  • Teenagers?! What teenager do you know who can afford a $25k car? I agree. Newer BMWs are no longer for the enthusiasts--they're for posers who think they have money and want everyone to know they think they have money and therefore think they deserve respect. They're not getting mine.

  • PEOPLE WITH MONEY DO GET RESPECT. Who has respect these days? Bill Gates! Donald Trump! Celebrities!!!! Sad to say but the world revolves around money! And btw many teens PARENTS can afford a 25 thousand dollar car.

  • pile of sh*t

  • sweet car

  • oh, i want it, some one buy it for me :P
