From an era where music was versatile and there was something for everyone on the radio. Ain't like that anymore. They're pumping out crap as fast as they can and it's so disposable. No production values, no lyrical content and no talent today. I'll stick with jams like this one!
@cvc1814 Not to be mean but he didn't need her in the video anyway because that's how powerful and amazing Janet's voice is, her silhouette and voice was enough plus the little girl in the video was so cute and gave the video a nice little twist lol. I love Herb, he's my favorite trumpeter.
this song... man what can I say ... it was good this one of Janet's songs at her peak... talkin about you use to love me but now you don't what... come on now... this song can pertain to family, god, a special someone in your life luv it
Whoa, this goes back to the late 1986 I believe. I've just graduated high school and my world was changing. An exciting time and this song reminds me of the changing times.
to be exact Marilyn Monroe orginally sing this in 1960 in the movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" Then Madonna copied off Marilyn's look with the blonde curls and the pink dress and and handsome men in their tuxes for 1985's Material Girl and then Janet had made this her own with jazz trumpeteer Herb Alpert for the 1987 old school dance hit. it is also interesting to note that all 3 women are the biggest gay icons of all time!
This was actually originally written and recorded for The Human League for their Crash album (which Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were producers on), but the head of A&M Records at the time loved the record so much that he felt that Jam & Lewis should keep it for the future. They chose to put it on Herb Alpert's album and Janet loved the song so much that she wanted to sing on it and the rest is history.
Wow, I remeber a few years back I kept asking about this song. No one knew what I was talking about. I described the video and everything. there's even one version with a little kid playing Janet. My sister who is older than me did'nt even remember. Anyway I was Obseesed with JJ back then. This is classsic. where did you get this?
The reason most people have forgotten this is because the song was by instrumentalist Herb Alpert and Janet Jackson was only the guest vocalist on the song, even though she sings on the entire song.
Yeah I knew I never dreamed this was a song either coz I heard it as a kid, I guess it's just a Janet song you never hear. I imagine this was taped off MTV.
I'm sure most of you already know this, but to the ones who doesn't, Herb Albert colaborated with Janet for second time on "love will never do (without you)".. he is the background trompet =D
for those of you too young to know, Janet's vocals were used for this video but she is not in the actual video, they used a body double, Janet was not available to appear in the video. Thats why u never see her full face.
